If I want to visit orcas island & San Juan island in the same trip, Which one do I go to first because of the ferry I'm a little confused

Hello, could you suggest any places where we could park our car overnight and sleep in it? Or any camp sites in Friday harbor? Thanks.

@@WanderfulRevolution It is a lot different from when I left in '93 and even more different than when I graduated from FHHS in '63 and even more different that when my parents and I moved there in '54. I moved because there were too many people. Now where I live a similar thing is happening where I live in the now second fastest growing state in America. No place left to go so I guess I'll die here.

Used to camp on Orcas and then take the ferry over to San Juan. Rented mopeds for the day and explored the island. Good times. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

We’d love to visit more of the islands! We saw a lot of mopeds and other cool little ways to get around the island without driving… next time I’m hoping we have a bit more time!

In 1993, Car and driver and one passenger, Anacortes to Friday Harbor round trip was around $28. We thought that was price gouging compared to in the 60's. And it was first come first served. You could always tell tourists from locals. Tourists looked at the scenery. Locals either slept or played cards or ate their sack lunches or talked, inside.. Once in a while I would walk out on deck, but not often. The ferry we usually took was the "Evergreen State". In early years we took either the "Vashon" or the "Nisqually". Those rather small ferries were exciting in winter storms. And Shaw Island was a flag stop. California riders would ask us locals in the 50's if there were Indians on the islands. When I was 12, I caught a 56-pound ling cod off the dock of the Friday Harbor Shipyard. That same year, I named a 44-foot trolling boat as it went down the ways into the water at Jensen's Shipyard. I am now remembering the exciting life I had on that Island for so many years. Those were the days!!!

Thank you for sharing this! We love to hear about how things have changed over the years… and that is a heck of a long cod!!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that big!!!! Thank you for watching!

I visited the San Juan Islands and to be honest it was one of the most stunning experiences ever! I truly enjoyed the video that you created and shared with us, inspiring, nostalgic, and moving. As someone who has been struggling with life and stress lately, this has been a very nice reminder to me to get out to the world again and stop worrying too much over the things I can't control. Thank you so much for the reminder and wishing you the best on your journey.

Hi, Sandy and Jed, and thanks, Wanderful Revolution for sharing. Your video is convincing me to visit Seattle again which I visited in early July. You are fortunate to visit Alpaka farm which was not available for a tour when I called, so just took some photos of them from the road. Was it easy to book the ferry online in advance? I was required to purchase a round trip. I like that this small San Juan Island keeps the businesses local...although no Starbucks for 4 days was not what I expected. Most of the shops and restaurants close at about 7pm. I stayed right above the Friday Harbor and was fortunate to see seals pop up every morning, also deer came to the backyard. Did you have a chance to see American Bald Eagles by the lighthouse? I am a kayaker, so I paddled almost every day to see wildlife. If you ever revisit it again, I strongly recommend the whale watch tour. I was lucky enough to see 12 Orcas at Tea Party (they call) crossing the Canadian border. Very informative. Your advice is very much appreciated. Look forward to your upcoming videos. 🙋♀🙋♀🛶🛶

Oh wow! I love it! I the idea of the whale watching and they used to have at the music store albums with whales singing. I had them play it fir me and it was pretty nice to listen too! I don’t blame you for wanting that take that sheep home. I know I would want to bring it home too! Oh that’s nice they have lavender coffee that must taste good. You said it smelt good. I would try that. Lavender it smells soo good. Love it soaps.

Wow, sightseeing overload in this episode! I think my fave was the alpacas... They remind me of timid dinosaurs after they've been sheered. Oops, ferry cancelled! Well at least you have your home with you and that helps you to roll with the punches, (or NOT roll). Thanks for sharing and safe, wanderful travels! -Burt in NJ
@WanderfulRevolution2 жыл бұрын
I will always and henceforth refer to alpacas as timid dinosaurs! Having our home with us really helped! We actually talked about the scenario of us trying to find a last minute hotel room because of the ferry cancellation!!! If we couldn’t find a place to park then we would be scrambling!!!!! Thank you for coming along as always Burt!!!!

What is "normal" length for vehicles on the ferry? And what is extra height limit?
@WanderfulRevolution2 жыл бұрын
Average vehicles are less than 22 feet and I believe the over height was anything over 7’3”

@@WanderfulRevolution I took my Honda over on the ferry, it's about 21 feet, but not tall 😏. My Sprinter is 22 ft, but 10'5" with the kayak on top
