I think China never has advertised itself as the future of humankind, nor by its government, nor by its people, but a developing country that has its good and bad, and still has a long way to go. So whatever the outsiders portrait it, good or bad, we don't really care, and at this point, we don't really get emotional by those anymore, after watching all the dramas in all these years. What we do mind though, is pure smearing, just like the "notorious social credit system" and the "notorious genocide", that is unacceptable and intolerable. Enjoy your trip.

More than one year ago my Singaporean colleague said to me he hates Xi Jinxing. He didn’t explain why but it’s not difficult to know he is brainwashed by western media. He brought up stuff like China credit system which he believes is for monitoring people - which infringes people’s freedom. And he also brought the missing tennis player Peng Shuai which western media was spreading wild misinformation. I told him China did not lock her up and torture her but he responded she is different than before as though she was mentally tortured or injected with something. In Singapore our media news sources are from western mainstream media such as Reuters, AP, AFP, NYTimes, Bloomberg, BBC, CCN, etc. which are toxic when comes to China news. I hope China can have some solutions for western media constant smearing of China especially start with asian countries let the people know the west is spreading misinformation about China and what China contributions to the world such as BRI.

It's fascinating to observe how media conditioning influences Western visitors' perceptions of China before they arrive. Their reactions often follow predictable patterns: surprise at modern infrastructure, questions about population density, or a heightened focus on security cameras. Some visitors even display unnecessary anxiety around police or uniformed personnel. Perhaps most telling is when visitors, like you, mistake natural fog or the marine layer for pollution. Along America's coasts, we're quite familiar with this natural mist, though we recognize it differently. What's particularly noteworthy is China's remarkable progress in environmental improvement over the past decade. The nation has made extraordinary strides in cleaning up its air, water, maintaining pristine public spaces, and reducing noise pollution. In fact, China's comprehensive approach to environmental challenges has surpassed most, if not all, nations in terms of success and scale. Your firsthand observations offer valuable insights that contrast with mainstream narratives. Travel indeed serves as an excellent way to distinguish reality from preconceptions. Thank you for sharing your experience, and may your journey continue to be enlightening us in the US who don't have the opportunity to visit a wonderful country like China.

Welcome to China. Actually, call Xinjiang Muslim Province, is not that accurate. Xinjiang has a long history with so many various blended in cultures, had been a pure Buddhist area. Because of the blocking by the Himalayas. The culture from west went into China through Xinjiang as the gateway. The Buddhist came into China also from the silk road, the first foothold is Xinjiang which called 'the west region' in the past. There are dozens of ethnics in Xinjiang with different religions.

the air pollution is mainly caused by the desert. Xinjiang is closed to Talimu desert which is the biggest one in China, in the winter, the cold air in winter is from west-north, it passed through the desert. Actually there are 6 deserts in China. China put lots of efforts to build the green wall. there are 2 deserts (Maowusou desert and Kubuqi desert) already become oasis as they are close to the yellow river. but the rest 4 deserts are really tough. the desertification is the pain point for many countries. if you come to Xinjiang in Summer, the air is much better than winter. because the warm air is from east-south of ocean.

That styrofoam you saw is probably for insulation, western and northern provences can get really cold during the winter. A lot of the old building are not up to the new housing standards so government and sometime individuals modify the outer wall with added material. You can see the original outer wall beneath the added layer, the insulation layer is usually made up with low density bricks and then styrofoam. The real tofu construction here is the fact that the insulation layer has fall off, the construction company might be in trouble if this is a government contract😅 Great video none the less, Safe travels and have a good time👍

@@baichuanren885 The main support is steel beams and concrete. That part is guarantee meets the safety standards. The foam outer wall is for insulation. It finishes by spraying fine sand or rock on it. It’s getting popular in the new buildings in Toronto Canada where I live. Just knock on the wall you will hear something that’s not solid. But that’s not a Tofu project. It may not able to handle impact but it can definitely handle wind, rain and snow.

The air quality issue is most likely natural. If you are in the densily populated area in the eastern part of China like Shanghai or Beijing, air problem is likely to be caused by polution. But Xing Jiang has large uninhabited area, and is known to install hundreds of miles of solar and wind farms. The problem of air quality is most likely caused by sand storms. I don't think it is a fog, as that part is very dry and usually does not have fog, but that part is very likely to have sandstorm as it is close to some deserted areas.
@Sfran_
@Sfran_ 24 күн бұрын
It’s cloudy and later raining when they were filming, which added to that grey weather conditions. The air quality in some winter days in Urumqi is not ideal because there are indeed some air pollutions due to coal burning for heating. But like the rest of China, the air quality is continually improving.

Unlike Europe, although the latitude is high, there is a warm Atlantic current, so it is not that cold. This is the center of Eurasia...

How unfortunate that North American tourists tend to use Western perspectives to judge Eastern cultures. If you want to find faults to prove your biases you can and you will. It's easy to convince yourself that you've found evidence to prove your point, whether it's true or not. I too can judge others just by looking at them superficially without ever exploring their history in depth or trying to understand why they do things the way they do. That would take an open mind and too much time so why bother.

@WanderingBluePassports haha, hope you love it here. Next time you need something or info about Xinjiang or China, feel free to let me know. I've travelled most provinces and big cities in China, especially for the food, and I just started my business as a tour leader. Btw what's your next destination?

That's weather not pollution. You never see bright sun in the sky mid-November. Urumqi is not that industrial comparing to other Chinese cities. 6:42 and few minutes later holding an umbrella you telling me that's not weather. 😆😆😆😂

That's not smog, let alone pollution! It was cloudy! It will rain next! Xinjiang has no pollution! There are few people in the shopping mall because of working days, not holidays. The outer wall of the room is an insulation layer! Don't rub it in rhythm.

We did not haha The museum was very good, it just lacked some English but it's not the museum's fault, it's in China... Even we think it doesn't NEED English but we just noticed how the presence of English changed as we got higher haha Thanks for watching 🙏

It’s unbelievable that China still has a place or two that has air pollution 😮!? Xing Jiang uses almost only clean energy… Chinese people are in general very friendly, people are used to helping each other since the old agricultural times, don’t care your skin colors (color doesn’t make one superior or inferior in their eyes) in China since ancient times there are already so many ethnicities (colors of skin) but all speak Madarin or dialects. Those who don’t like China, doesn’t matter either, don’t have to come to China… won’t be missed… China has 1.4 B people already. Love China❤👍. It’s still so much better than the West! 🤫 Westerners who see things they don’t have in their country and say “so weird!” You need to see more of the world and get out of your bubble😂

How comes air quality in Urumqi being that low? Aren't the sales of EV in Urumqi as high as in the rest of CN, where air quality has massively increased due to EV rise and green energy? Also a lot of the green energy projects are in XJ, so that should shift things towards cleaner air, too, i would assume. Where does the bad air come from?
@WanderingBluePassports
@WanderingBluePassports 24 күн бұрын
Others in the comments are saying lots still use coal to heat in the winter. We also saw lots of street vendors cooking with coal. We saw more EVs in China than any other country we have been to but there is still lots of IC cars too. It all just adds up, plus there is always industry but I don't know enough about that to make any meaningful statement in that regard.

International Energy Agency : from now to 2030, China's renewable energy installed capacity is expected to account for nearly 60% of the world's total installed capacity. By 2030, China will have more than half of the world's renewable energy , and China’s solar energy output is equal to the entire nation’s consumption in the U$.

China is just a country like others, just has a different developing way, our own way, not that perfect and not that bad,that's all, Internet make any tiny good or bad way way bigger pppl start to stand a side to fight.

Thanks. We just like to document our travels, we don't care about views and we don't get our clicks from trying to polarize the world. It's already "Us vs Them" enough. If something is good we say, if something is bad we say it. Some people are so sensitive to a negative being mentioned, even when it's surrounded by good things being said. I hope that like you, everyone can just enjoy watching us discover a new place.

If you look at the map, a big portion of Xinjiang is that big desert. Cities are built around that big desert. A lot of sand storms there. So the air pollution is due to that. Xinjiang and Tibet are magnificent places in nature but honestly, not very inhabitable due to its nature. Historically those two are impoverished regions with harsh living environment. Southern Xinjiang by that desert used to be infested by radical Islamic influence and terrorism and a place where no travellers dared to go, because of its poverty and closeness to Parkistand and Afghanistan. In recent years, it is completely changed to be a very safe place and popular tourist destination especially Kashgar. The Chinese gov spent a lot of efforts and resources to deploy security, reeducate people, provide employment and develop economy, and at the same time, created some controversies that have been blown out of proportion without much context in the western media as the west sees their interests in allying with the oversea East Turkistan terrorism groups and destablizing Xinjinag.
