The sausage roll flavour crips have a LOT of tomato sauce flavour, producing a lot of vinegar tartness to the table. Another one to think about are the corn based "Chipsticks", salt and vinegar (very strong flavour). There are also an occasional run of "Fish and Chips" which are a sort of baked bisuit (if you have had cheddar biscuits, it is like that), they were a big hit but they only come out on rare occasions. The potato used today is very different from the one they used to use, up until the 90s, IIRC, because that potato died off. The flavour of crisps hasn't really recovered.

My step dad worked briefly at Seabrooks. They had to wear what was essentially a germ warfare suit because the bags of flavouring were so caustic. Also, did you know that the founder of the company had a chippy in Allerton in Bradford, or nearby, and he decided to concentrate on fried spuds during the war when fish was scarce. It went well so he ordered a new sign for his new fried potato sideline. His name was Charles, probably, so when the sign writer took the job he was asked to write a sign for C.Brooks. It being a fish and chip shop previously the sign writer put two and two together and came up with five. Hence Seabrooks fried potato company.

Where did you find all those packets of crisps? When I lived in Half Moon Bay in CA a few years ago I couldn't get any UK crisps. There was a British shop in Ventura that I would raid every time I was in south CA. Have you tried Marmite on your channel yet?

Tyrrells veg crisps, (gluten free) my favourites. Cheese Doritos second. With Christmas on it way you will see tins of cheese footballs in the shops - a snack rather than a crisp but been going for years everyone laughs about them but some love 'em.

Enjoyed watching my first time seeing you guys. As below: pickled onion monster munch were a childhood favourite of many, as were niknaks nice n spicy. Hula hoops better ready salted than the bbq beef flavour - one of the rare times you’ll ever hear me say this. Try some space raiders - every cornershop used to sell them for 10p back in the day. You can imagine how popular they were with kids after school. Personal favourite was Brannigans Ham & mustard flavour. Never see them in the shops anymore but amazon is your friend. If you like mustard, you’ll like them. They have a real kick!

Back in 1981 a company names Hedgehog Foods, launched hedgehog flavoured crisps as a joke. They were quite popular for a while, but controversial because some people thought they involved real hedgehogs. I did try them and they were not dissimilar to beef flavour. Hedgehogs are a traditional food for Gypsies. They would cover them in clay and put them on the camp fire to cook. The clay would harden and make it easy to to strip off the spines by cracking it and shelling it like an egg.

"the real mccoy" is a derivative Scots phrase meaning - the genuine article, real deal or the best in class. I. E That young boxer over there is the real mccoy... (he has talent, is the real deal etc)

I always thought "The Real McCoy was of Scottish origin, from a line in a poem talking about whisky - "a drop of the real MacKay" Could be totally wrong, though.

I read somewhere that it was a rum running thing during prohibition where there was a rum runner called McCoy who was known for never selling counterfeit liquors
@allenwilliams13064 жыл бұрын
That Scottish explanation seems to be the most likely origin of the phrase, possibly borrowed and corrupted in the USA.
