seems way smarter than the method I used to remove valve guides off my old Husqvarna. I used a steel rod and a hammer and a torch on top of a piece of wood. It worked but it took forever.

Nice video ! It dosen't seem to be that hard, but not sure if i'll do it myself if I have this issue. I hope it fixed your oil burning !

It turned out not to be too bad. And yes, fixed the problem

Can you provide a link for the 8mm steel dowel? I can't find it. Also, what length did you use?

I just searched Amazon. They were less than a foot long, just a few inches

What a rabbit hole you went down to find the oil consumption… in the same boat hoping to not go down that road. So i gotta ask, other than the nics and scratches were there any other signs of bad valve guides? Mine do have a bit of side-to-side play. Already did the valve seals and of course that didn’t fix it.

The play in the valve is the thing to look for. That and repeated seal fails. The guides are meant to be softer than the valve stems so they’ll fail first I believe. You’ll see how much tighter the valves fit into the new guides.
