Solid video man. Super informative, but also not as dry as most rebuild videos. Really appreciate the content!

OMG...if you put it back in w/o the washer you're gonna f stuff up....Love IT!!! Was curious how you were gonna get the head back on the piston w/o a tool while the engine was mounted. That is some rubik's cube sh*t. Great video and thanks for sharing!

My 501 is burning oil, and I'm presuming its the rings. I've looked on OEM parts diagrams and it looks like you can only get rings if you buy the piston and the cylinder together.. crazy. Where did you source the rings from? Do you have part numbers or a link? Thanks!
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes2 жыл бұрын
I bought them from my local KTM dealer. Did you do a leakdown test before deciding if it was rings? If not, that's worth considering. I have a video on it if that's helpful?

@@ExtremeSportsWannaBes Ok cool. I'll have to check in with my dealer then. Not sure why the parts diagrams don't show them as separate items with part numbers. No I haven't done a leak down test. I don't have the equipment or even an air compressor right now. It has smoked once on startup and also will give blue puffs if revved hard at idle. I just did a 170 mile ride this weekend and had to replace about 300 ml of oil. Way too much. I figure it has to be the rings.

@@ExtremeSportsWannaBes Oh, I was looking at the wrong diagram. I found the rings 👍
@ExtremeSportsWannaBes2 жыл бұрын
My problem was mostly the valve stem seals (and I later learned, the valve guides). Smoking on rev is probably valves. Rings can't pull in oil when the cylinder is under pressure, but valve stems can because of the vacuum on the intake tract.
@JonathanVee2 жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeSportsWannaBes I see. So did you also end up replacing the guides as well? I was thinking oil could still get past the rings on the intake stroke? Thinking I'll get the valve guide seals anyway and have a look at them while in there for the rings. If the guides seem overly worn I'll stop and order them at that point.

What do you mean you did it wrong once? Can you explain 🤔

I just meant out of order. I didn't take time to do the leakdown test first.
