Bioinformatics is something between biology - medicine - information technologies. You can't compare Bioinformatics with Computer Science. They programm in much advanced level. The study of computer science is also focusing on programing. Students study Computer Science because they want to become programmers. Students who study Bioinformatics are basically still more focusing on Biology.

Down side here for a programmer who is not a biologist by his or her original training, is that if you can be good at bioinformatics then you can be good at whatever field of computer science you choose like web, mobile development etc. And commercial jobs related to those fields are much more robust. So your chances to be employed are way higher than if you where in bioinformatics. And I mean to be employed by a commercial software development company with proper salary, not an academic lab whose pay grade stands nothing in comparison to what you can make in industry. Even if you are a biologist by training without prio knowledge of computer sciences and programming, you need to invest as much time and effort into becoming a bioinformatician as you need to invest to become a specialist in other comp science field. Because bioinformatic is more about informatics rather than biology.

Sure! Many of them work in the field of pharmacology, as example

Sure! From systems biology (which tries to model biological preocesses and complex systems) to structural biology and pharmacoinformatics (which study structure and interaction between molecules, and try to predict their behaviours). Also, some labs combine structural biology and advanced light microscopy! (actually I am a Bioinformatics student who hats genomics! jaja)

Its’s true, in Indonesia there’s no jobs in bioinformatics (bcz that degree is basically all about research (drug, vaccines, biology) There’s only industrial jobs like software engineers So is it actually good to go to bioinformatics early in bachelors degree?
