I don't understand what people want from rabbits, they expect love but that has to be earned, they are primarily a prey animal. when i got my rescue rabbit she would growl, stomp and even bite me, but I earned her trust and now shes great! Then they want them to be entertaining like a dog but how can they show you how playful they are if you keep them in a tiny cage? -_- rabbits are the most neglected animal in the UK and its such a shame because there just misunderstood :(

But people dont understand that not all bunnpris is like that.

We "rescued" our bunny. They didn't have a garden and we did and they just didn't have time for her so we agreed to have a look at her. When we got there, her cage was tiny, she was soaked in her own mess and she didn't have any of the right hay or food so she was really thin. They hadn't researched how to care for a bunny at all. I opened the cage as she was right at the door and let her sniff me. She jumped out of the cage into my arms and just settled herself there licking my arm. Love at first sight. I just looked at my mum like "do not make me give up this rabbit! I am 21 years old but I will cry like a baby if you make me put her back!" So we got her a double storey hutch, seriously, one floor of this thing is bigger than her old cage to the point where she just couldn't comprehend that there was an upstairs. With the right food and a garden to exercise in, she's doing well. We've had her for about two and a half years now. She's a little menace trying to pull our garden apart, but if my mum ever decided she didn't want her anymore (which would never happen, she loves her too much), that rabbit would live with me forever. Never get a pet that you don't have enough love, time and space for. Always research your animal. Your reward? They'll remember. They'll love you forever for it.

We foster bunnies from our local shelter. It has given us a good practice to make sure we can provide properly, without long term commitment ( which we cannot do currently due to uni). I would say its the perfect first step to getting a long term bunny, and shelters appreciate the extra help. It might be something worth considering before getting a permanent bunny. You may even fall in love with your foster bunny and end up adopting it!

In my opinion owning a rabbit is in a way like the same amount of responsibility of a dog or cat, and more or less the same cost(unless the dog is a large/giant breed), also people shouldn't take a bunny to just any vet, they should find a vet that specializes in small animals/exotics as they have a very unique system(i think thats how to word it?)

Rabbit's are a huge commitment, and many can't handle that. If your child isn't naturally gentle, do not get one, get a dog. If you want a rabbit you need to read about how to look after them. They are very specialised, and a complete stranger to rabbit care also won't understand their body language, nor their diet, or the kind of care they need. Rabbit's are smart, and can actually learn tricks for treats. So tl;dr: love the buns, worship the buns

We've had rabbits since 2013. My first rabbit was named cheerios and he was a sweetheart. He was particularly fond of my mom but he loved everyone he met. I remember he used to get up on the couch and hang out with people. sadly cheerios passed away April the 11th of 2014 only 2 months after one of my best animal friends and first Dog Belle had passed away at 9 years of age. After a couple of weeks of mourning we opened up our hearts to another bunny named Stella. While cheerios was fond of my mom, Stella is currently fond of me. Me and her will sit and cuddle a lot and we'll also play around with eachother. Rabbits aren't an easy pet but definitely a worth while pet. Having a pet rabbit was one of the best desicions I really ever made.

You are on the right track! I am with a rabbit rescue and we don't advise storing a bale for an entire year. It is hard to keep it from getting musty and keeping it fresh, so we sell 2 flakes to our clients. Try finding a rescue in your area and see if you can't arrange the same thing. Your hay will always be fresh and you won't get stuck with a bale of lousy hay. Calcium in his urine is due to high amts in carrot tops, spinach etc. Keep carrots as a small treat occasionly, too much sugar

It's strange treading and seeing all these comments and videos saying that it's not as easy as people think to look after a rabbit A friend of mine has a 1 year old male dwarf pedigree rabbit. She lets him go where ever he wants around her flat she didn't believe in caging animals, from what I saw I wouldn't say it was difficultly at all and I spent quite a lot of time there. He is very happy runs wherever he wants, jumps about, whistle, eats newspaper or enjoys shredding it to pieces, eats a good varied diet she does not give him pellets just what he would eat In the wild, he has toys, greets visitors at the door, comes and sit in your lap and licks you whether you stroke or massage him or not. Maybe it's because he has a 12 year old Maltese dog and a 20 year old cat for company. Can anyone explain what are the considerations about keeping a rabbit?

This is a very good video about pet bunnies. It gives excellent advice for those interested in having a bunny as a pet. Bunnies really are a specialist pet. They cost more to keep than a dog or a cat because they need sawdust, hay, special food and fresh greens. They also need daily attention and care (cleaning out cages!). I adore my bunnies, this is why I share this information. I know what it takes to be a responsible bunny carer :)

Cost and Nutrition are major for a Rabbit too. I know someone that has one and she is not in the best of financial shape and pretty much only feeds her rabbit Rabbit food you get at Wal-Mart. Time and again she will feed her Carrots but time and again only. I think this is due to financial instability as she is in major debt, and tbh should probably not have bought a rabbit in the first place due to this. Also I feel she does not let it roam around enough either, I would say her rabbit is in the cage for about 23 hours a day and if not more. She only lets it roam around for 30 minutes to an hour a day. It is very sad after watching this video to think of how badly a friend of mine takes care of her rabbit.

if you do your research, and you can accommodate a house rabbit, they are very rewarding, mine waits for me at the top of the stairs when I get off work, he plays with everything, and loves to snuggle. he comes when I call him, he dances, and he even has tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He has free range over my whole apartment, except the laundry room. they can make amazing pets if you have what it takes to give them what they need. and I too find rabbits and kids don't mix well ... but they can make good pets for adults.

He has standard rabbit food all the time and I make sure to feed him lots of veggies and fruit. He's a friendly guy, but doesn't like to be held very much. You just need to make sure your rabbit is living in a clean area, has good food, has something to chew on and keep their nails trimmed. Rabbits are great pets, but make sure you research them before u get one.

Since I was little, I'd wanted a dog of my own ... until I got my first pet rabbit, a Dwarf Hotot I named "Tardis" (you'll see him in my profile pic). Now, I can't possibly imagine myself having anything other than a rabbit, except out of necessity; like a service dog, to help with my illnesses/disabilities in the future. I was absolutely gutted when my baby rabbit developed GI stasis, though. Sadly, we had to have him put to sleep at 10 months & 24 days old; on December 28th, 2018. I'll never forget the love we shared, though. I've had other pets before, but my wee rabbit was quite possibly the closest I've ever been to any animal I've ever known. I know I'll always be fondest of rabbits now & I hope to one day get another who is just as wonderful as my beautiful baby bunny was... 💕✨🐇✨💕

We got our first rabbit on a whim. She was the last one at the pet store. The runt of the litter, with a little bald spot on her head. We weren't the greatest pet owners, but she lived to be 10 years old. Admittedly, we made some mistakes--like a wire-bottom cage--but she was let out often, and paid attention to daily. Our second rabbit was much more purposeful, and he has been much happier. He's let out twice a day, and loved at least four times a day.

So true. I've seen so many rabbits, guinea pigs, and other rodents marketed as easy pets for kids, they require a lot of attention and stimulation in order to live long, happy, healthy lives. They are such rewarding pets if you take the time to properly care for them. Tiny cages and occasional play sessions are no way to house a rabbit/guineapig.

I love my rabbit to bits. But he's been a trial to train and to learn about what makes him tick. My rabbit is litter trained, so the extent of his mess is that he can track hay or wood bedding around the house. He's free range and only spends time in his cage when he wants to sleep or wants a drink. He's only destructive if he doesn't get time with us (which is rare). They certainly aren't a beginners pet though. I'm glad this was posted.

I wish I had seen this before I adopted a rabbit from a humane society near me, I ended up returning her to them and I cried so much and I still struggle with guilt. I was at a bad point in my life and overwhelmed with so much other stuff and then her. I had done research and thought I was ready, I'd owned a large variety of pets in the past and was always responsible and through but having a rabbit was so intense and I didn't even have the space for her. I was so ignorant and I knew I couldn't give her what she needed. I still feel bad I failed her so I pray everyday she went to a better home. I know the humane society took good care of her and hopefully found her a better owner who knew what they were doing. PLEASE RESEARCH AND REALLY KNOW HOW MUCH SPACE, CARE, AND TIME RABBITS NEED. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever done. I've forgiven myself because I was in really bad mental place and I matter too but please know however intense you think a pet rabbit will be, it's so much more intense than you think. They are amazing creatures for very special owners.

They're ridiculously easy to litter train, in my experience. Put a bunch of timothy hay near/in where you want them to go and they will usually naturally gravitate towards going in that spot. Reward them with treats when you see them going there (I use small amounts of certain fruit or veggies that my bunny likes), and if you see them putting their tail up when they're out of their cage, try to encourage them to go to their litterbox/area. My bunny was fully litter trained within a week.

I’m glad this video was made. I have a rabbit and she’s my best friend. We built an aviary and bought a hutch so she has tons of space. She lives with the chinchilla and 3 guinea pigs. Usually I wouldn’t say it’s okay to house different kinds of animals together, however when they were inside during the winter she wound up bonding with the chinchilla to the point where they get depressed without each other. She and my guinea pigs get along amazingly as well, however they don’t get full on depressed without the other one (though they do get quite sad). If anyone reading this is having trouble financially and owns a rabbit know that they’re expensive. However you can go on chewy.com and buy in bulk and it is a lifesaver!

Magical Miranda yeah they might look fine but you should never house bunny and guinea pigs together. Chinchilla too? That’s soooooooo bad they can’t even speak the same language and they all have totally different care so that’s not a good idea

I have 4 rabbits and even with just 1 it was hard and with 4 it’s so hard you have to make sure they are all fully bonded and make sure they also get a lot of attention from me not just by each other. They are all free ranged and house bunny’s which is hard at times but I feel it’s better for them. The first rabbit I got was bugsy and he don’t actually like being with the other bunny’s and likes cuddles and kisses which is rare for rabbits but he is really used to me and knows I’m his “safe person” and he knows he’s safe with me being there. One of my bunnies I got from a shelter and she was actually abused by her previous owners and i wanted to get her so she would have a safe life with me. She doesn’t like being stroked sometimes and rather stay with the other rabbits but that’s fine by me. So if u do have a rabbit that isn’t as loving u have to understand that some of them aren’t and u just have to take it slow

I am hand raising 3 baby rabbits the size of my palm. My cats are funny . They run away from such small creatures and dont give them the time of day. The male cat lets the babies klime on him . It is a fun sight to watch

I agree with you and I just got a rabbit after researching and I cleared out our spare bedroom for a huge play room for him and I cant get him to come out. It's so strange. Ive had him for almost a month and every morning I open his cage door and leave it open all day and he has never come out on his own. I fell so bad for him being cooped up but every time I've tried to take him out he runs back in lol.

We have a rabbit and he has us spoiled. We very seldom close the door to his home and he has the run of the house along with our cat. When we first got him he was young and chewed all kinds of cords from electric to cable. After a while he gave that up and just runs around checking out where the cat is. We almost never pick him up other than to trim his nails and he likes it like that. When its snack time he will let you know by jumping on you or staring you down.

@Vr4z1el I actually find that most of my buns show the same amount of love and affection as dogs or cats, and love cuddles and scritches just as much as well. But of course they all have different personalities, so not all of them are like that. Kudos on saving a bun in need, btw. ♥

I have a barn rabbit at the moment, She had given birth last summer. She had 5 little bunnies, all survived luckily. We took great care and pride with all of them..We never saw them as profit, we gave all 5 away 3 sadly died ;c If you do give away/sell them make sure that you do so in pairs! The other 2 who are alive to this day we gave away in pair and to our neighbor, so they were close by and with eachother..But yes! Bunnies are VERY hard to maintain so do your homework!

Im from London, i have 6 bunnies (3 girls and 3 boys) living together outside in a massive safe enclosure (stops foxes getting to them) They have unlimited hay, they have boxes, toys and even cuddly toys (rabbit safe ones) All bar 1 of my rabbits were rescued, our little Sid was actually thrown out into the fields and left for fox dinner :( at one point me and my mum actually had 20 rabbits, we stopped people throwing them out and even took in ones people didnt want anymore, i cant stand people who get pets and then mistreat them :(

My family bought a rabbit thinking it would be easier to care for than a cat, oh how wrong we were. They're a handful, but definitely worth it if you put the proper time in :)

My rabbits (they have separate cages) has cages for two rabbits.I think a cages only for one rabbit are way too small. And they get to be loose running around in my room at least one and an half hour/day.I always check so that they don't chew on cords etc. And they are never left in thier (also separate outdoor cages) more than 20 mins. Thier outdoor cages are supersafe.they can't even dig themselfes out. They have chicken wire buried (about one centimeter, yes idk what it's in inches ..) in the soil so that they can not dig themselves out.=) Sorry if some words are spelled wrong,I'm not SUPERGOOD at english;)

I've never bought a pets because it was 'easy'. My first pet was a lovely rescue cat but she required special dietary food and daily medication as well as the usual worming tablet and flea dips. My rat was loved/spoilt for the two years she was with us, spoiled with toys and love until she died of cancer despite the operation and treatment. My dwarf rabbit and guinea pig needed several hours of playtime a day with lots of hay, toys, space with the rat and cat! Then the Chinese hamsters who...
