I use to ride my vstorm 250 at lower RPMs, around 3000, hoping that it will give better mileage as the engine seems really calm. Then I switch to real time fuel efficiency on the mid, and to my surprise, the best mileage was around 4 to 4.5k rpm on 4th gear, where the engine feels a little angry and more engaging. So yeah, read the rpm, and don't judge by the sound. 👍
@haipingplays4123 күн бұрын
Yes exactly, it depends on how much stress there is in the engine.

The best mileage for a bike will always be in 6th gear at 80-100 speed. 4th gear is 1:1 and 6th gear is extra overdrive

In Indian roads, drive like an uncle and keep your family and friends safe... Have seen so many Mercs to Polos crashing into dividers and barriers..
@Dabbtrabb4 күн бұрын
I'm sorry, There is a big divide between driving like an uncle, and driving like an idiot. There are limits. I define an uncle as someone who drives 10% better than an L-board. This doesn't apply to all, but you do see a large faction of the road driving like this. You know the one who inadvertently crashes into the idiot because they are not paying any attention or aren't skilled enough or pay enough attention or all of the above. Indian roads are dangerous because people drive like this. Even the good drivers get affected by this. With respect to the other side of the sepctrum, You need not be rash to be good. You need not be rash to be knowledgeable of your vehicles capabilities at extremes inorder to be able to react to a situation. You need not be rash to improve your skill to a level where you know you can take immediate avoidance when sudden uncle actions happen on the road. You make yourself safer as a whole, whilst not being an idiot about it.

Uncles are the worst kind of drivers, they hog up entire lane and go slow. The options for us are 1. Get irritated and try a dangerous overtake 2. Buzz the horn like crazy till he let you pass. Simple horns and pass light won't work. If there is an uncle infront of you, you will also have to become a bad driver

I had watched this episode. Since then I drive more at low gears and I enjoy it. Earlier I used to drive my amaze in city at 40kmph in 5th gea now I usually don't go above 3rd. Now watched this and yes after getting used to going fast going slow now is tough task. But I am now doing that too as now I have more responsibilities as my father passed away in August. He was on dialysis. Now thinking about revisiting that episode about owning dream bike or something similar to it. As my plans of upgrading from current 125cc to 250cc has been postponed.

When We learnt to drive during 1980s to 1990s there existed cars and bikes having larger stroke, low reving engines where the torque and the power remained at the earlier part of the rev range where we got max pull. It was only when climbing Uphills we needed the later part of the rev range. That's how we were hard wired with short-shifting and keeping the RPM low. No doubt now a days the engines are much powerful but are very frugal, shifting the power and the torque to the later part of the rev range. This meant for the oldies to unlearn and re-learn the newer techniques of driving. I have touched only the "Tip of the ice berg" about why oldies drive slow.........there are many more....... Looking forward to such interesting discussions, Because in today's time (2024) there is no proper protocol for driver's training in India, and such discussions will help many to become a better driver/rider👍

If there was more power in low range why do you need to shift power to high range? Sounds like a degrade, watch the video before commenting 😢😢
@BBSRDashcam2 күн бұрын
@dark_knight439 OK I feel bad that you are crying.... no hard feelings There is a difference between downgrade and Degrade.... you obviously understood the later part. In short Modern engines are designed for wider band of power and torque, which wasn't possible for earlier engines. I have watched the video and commented on it FYI. Please don't cry

I absolutely don't know how I figured this out by myself but I learnt to go fast first and then learnt to go slow after it and it actually changed the whole outlook on riding motorcycles, and I'm reaping my benefits today but ofc that comes with things I did that I'm not too proud of, but overall it was a nice learning experience.

A lot of people think that being in a higher gear and letting the engine take it's time to built pace is wrong, just switch your MID to instant mileage and you'll see the results, it's simple physics., in order to pickup speed you need to accelerate which means overcoming barriers such as drag and gradient. And to accelerate you need more fuel. While being in a higher gear and dragging the engine you're simply dumping in more fuel and most of it is only to make sure the engine doesn't lug so don't be lazy downshift, allow the higher gearing to let the engine freely accelerate maintain the afr close to stoich and not to mention you're burning your clutch as well.

It depends on the traffic flow, your skill, vehicle capacity and rules. Not in the same order but when all these match, the drive is smooth and untiring. One mismatch and it feels tired

I love you uncle Shumi, especially for the part how can you improve?, i had a maruti 800, figo tdci, pulled it, red lined it, took the sharp curves as i live in ghat area, streak overtakes, etc etc my figo has done 2L plus still running smoothly, now recently switched to Slavia 1.5 tsi dsg, for a sedate drive and to keep power in the finger tip to use it, as necessary. enjoyed your conversation. Doing slow after learning to drive fast is a bliss. 😘
@muttineni034 күн бұрын
I've seen someone recommend redlining one in a week, not go super fast but redline on highway which helps engine to burn carbon deposits in piston head, which is a good thing to do for engine, he suggested for car, but guess that works for motorcycle too. if we don't utilize higher rpm and baby the engine that will kind of make engine never to utilize higher rpms which is important and makes engine smoother and after a while engine wont easily reach higher rpms. Also imho to be a better driver in India is to learn how to ride slow.

Driving in low rpms puts a larger strain on the engine, especially the crank, as the drivetrain tries to pull the crank to its speed rather than the opposite. Keeping higher rpms ensures that engine is driving the load and not vice versa

Hard disagree on the reasoning behind why driving at 80 makes you a better driver at 40, if you're used to driving at 80 and drive at 40, it's quite tiring and you're not as engaged as you would be at say 80, so it's actually quite unsafe to drive at lower speeds.

@utkarshrajvanshi33613 күн бұрын
Think you mean rev-matching in manual vehicles while shifting. Let me give you a barebones idea. While intending to shift to a lower gear, press in the clutch, tap the throttle to bring up the engine rpm by about 500rpm(actually depends on vehicle gear ratio) and while the rpms settle make the down-shift. Release the clutch and enjoy the smooth drive. Practice and get to know your engine. It gets easier with time.
