Sometimes what beginners like me want to see is how your arm moves, more than the lines you draw. It's the arm motion, where you place the paper with respect to your torso, how you switch grips for certain lines like vertical and horizontal, where does the fingers rest (or if theyr'e not touching the paper)

Ofcourse they are touching the paper but tnere isnt preassure and they are not anchored in a position. You must float over the paper that´s the secret. You can use the Elbow or shoulder as pivot. Use the wrist just only for short lines.

@@ooom4gicooo that's actually what I was doing wrong all this time!!!!!! I was trying to glide my fingers on the paper to create a support but my elbow was OFF the table so it didn't work! Now that I keep my elbow on the table it became so much easier thanks!

@@whatdotheycallmeagain The best advice that I can give to an artist is: Don't seek perfection, seek progress. Daily practice is the only thing that will get you closer to it. The human touch gives personality to the lines.

Thank you so much!!! My artteacher tought me never to move the sheet 😢 She said this would be cheating. I‘m so glad to see, that this is not a comment opinion. I move my sheets how I neeed it. Sometimes I felt like cheating 😂 Even knowing that there are no rules in art.

Thanks Tim! i'd also like to know how to make it easier to draw straight lines using a pen tablet (not display tablet with screen). It's extremely hard compared to trad or display.

Hey Kael! Yeah that's a great topic. I'll see what I can do :) I spent ages on a normal Wacom so I have a few things I can share. It's definitely a lot harder to get nice lines and nice drawing happening with a simple drawing tablet.

I'm with you! This video is good, but it misses the point of making a straight line, free-hand and very relaxed, without necessarily rotating the paper. Check out this 15 minute video "How to Draw Freehand Straight Lines - Easy Straight Lines Without A Ruler" by Stephen Travers Art. He nails it in a beautifully simple way; it's all to do with the shoulder joint. Imagine using your bicep, swinging side to side and the job of your elbow/hand/fingers is to work automatically, in harmony, to keep the pen flowing freely on the paper. If you watch the video Stephen will address your comment within a few minutes - it is brilliant! And it works.
