You don’t say this specifically but you address it with work ethic. ATTITUDE is a huge component. You had the attitude and fortitude to lift and hit and eat Thanks for vid

I have learned so much about MLB from watching your videos. Especially the one on the pay scale, the perks, and the "unspoken" rules of baseball.

Great video! When you said you were practicing swings off the tee, trying to hit it out how many swings did you roughly take a day?

Yea I pitched from little league to highschool and at age 13 I started to play travel baseball but there is where I was playing for coaches that played pro or college. So I have tons of playing experience and tons of baseball knowledge and so at the end of my junior year MLB was having tryouts. So I went to it and you had pro scouts all over the place but they told us that if they were interested in you that they would call you. So I got the call the Florida Marlins which now is the Miami Marlins were interested in me but this is has been over 20 years ago when this happened. But I kind of remember that they wanted to see me pitch again but I don't remember now if I did or not. So I was playing fall baseball one time and there was a scout from the Florida Marlins that was at the game. I think his son was playing on my team at the time and I think I told him that I was being scouted by the Florida Marlins. So he wanted to come to my highschool and just do a side session with him and so we were allowed on the field and when it was done he said to be careful in what you wish for because you might just get it. So my confidence went through the roof when he said that so in my senior year in highschool I got cut from the team and it devastated me because I was thinking that if I made the team then scouts would be at almost every game but now that I look back I don't think I took it seriously. So after highschool I wanted to play college baseball and there is a job in Georgia and I live in Georgia by the way but there is a school close to the Florida border called Andrew college. It's a junior college and I did a tour of the campus and everything but the problem that I had was that I was a Special Ed student in highschool. So with just a Special Ed or just a highschool diploma for me makes it very difficult in getting in the college of your choice and so I didn't go. But my dream of playing baseball had come to an end and I tried to play again after highschool but my velocity dropped and I couldn't get anyone out. So I knew at that point that it was time to hang it up as a player. But for you young players out there if your wanting to play at the next level then take me and Matt's advice because from highschool and beyond nothing is given to you because if you want to play at the next level then you have to earn your way on. Because at any game you never know who might be watching you play but like me and Matt we ate and slept baseball and I never made it pro or college but that was my goal

You are far more likely to end up an adult league player than a professional player. Train hard, always get better, earn a scholarship, get that 4yr degree. If you are him, you will get to the Pros!

Question: is 21 years old too late to pursue an mlb career? been playing house league for 7 years (was an all-star) and currently trying to make my local college team.

Not at all. I’m 21 and that’s what I’m doing. If you are good enough you will be found, you just have to be realistic

Were your swing mechanics something that came natural at a young age? Or did you have to work on things to more efficiently get into your power?

Matt knows what he's talking about, only some certain percentage of players are ever going to play pro ball...but if you put in this kind of work you will at least be one of the better players on your HS team and play college ball as a minimum.

How come many major leaguers have kids who also make it pro? Is it genetic or just better training? Money? Who trained you and how did you know what to do? Damn dude, when you hit on a tee the ball doesn't seem to go anywhere. How did you do it?

How did you keep all those calories from turning to fat? Adding all that weight and not having it be bad weight. I cant do it

You have to know your body type. If you’re an endomorph you can’t stuff down food. It’s experimentation and figuring out how much you can eat and not gain fat.

Marry a Dental Hygienist right after HS. Stay with me here... You need life stability, marriage will help you do that.. You need to afford the proper calories to put on the muscle, your wife will be making enough early in their career to support this. Her job is portable enough to move with you anywhere you need to go.

Change your name to the Spanish equivalent. Get adopted by a wealthy family that can afford to send you to baseball camps and traveling teams. Go to Vanderbilt University or a SEC school.
