Very nice. I love to see how traditional bass like walking influences synth and then synth stuff moves forward again and influences live traditional bass with synth pedals and then back again.

beautiful! so inspiring.. especially that "single note trick", I didn't realize it was "allowed" to play anything outside the chord, but then I remember hearing that same thing on PSB's Love Comes Quickly and it sure was effective in that track! I think it's the idea of not being afraid to do things wrong and experiment that's so liberating..

I would consider myself to be pretty good at synth basslines and I think the important thing is having a DEEP understanding of basslines other than synth. The best tip I can give is to try to understand basslines in a lot of different genres and then translate it over. Or just get to a point where you can play disco and funk basslines 😂... If you can do those then you can do anything

Fascinating! I’m going to try some of these later. I liked that you mentioned Pet Shop Boys at the top of the video. I’m reminded of someone that said that a musical cue from Inspector Gadget, “Penny’s Theme” or “Look Out” sounded an awful lot like “Domino Dancing”. I listened to them back to back and saw their point. Of course, for “Penny’s Theme”, I could only get that sound by using a Jupiter 8 bass type patch with a little overdrive and a tremolo. Seems to work. The stabs on the upbeats gives it a bounciness to it. That cue happens when Penny and Brain solve the case. I enjoy videos like this. Keep up the good stuff. 👍👍

Hi Espen Kraft, thanks for this insightful video. I would much prefer synth heads make more videos like this about how to play the keyboards rather than the endless vintage synth reviews. Guitarists have so much content on how to actually play the dang thing but there's barely anything like that for us keyboard players. I would love more videos about melodies scales chords, chord progressions etc. Thanks
