As a non believer, I really appreciate your insight and takes on things. I grew up in a mega church, the youth pastor lived on my parents property, for free, next door. I was super involved in many aspects, youth group obviously, because the youth pastor was my neighbor and music, I played in the church band every Sunday, and of course all those concerts we put on. I was a first hand witness to many of the things you're talking about, my dads office was on the same block as the church. I'm not sure how much my father donated directly to the church over the years, I know it was more than most people though. And I know he was solicited to donate large sums, like you talked about here many times.

The tragic thing is that all this money gets spent on buying more and more-what if all of it was used for helping the needy?

If anyone remembers Charles Schulz, the creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip (yes, I'm old), he was a devout Christian who, I think, advocated home churches - at least, I remember that he was quoted as saying that any time a church reached 10 or so members, it was time to start a new church. Everyone in the church should know each other fairly intimately to mutually support each other.

If your idea of being a skeptic is criticizing megachurches, you may just not like American/western/modern Christianity. Which is a good thing, as American Christianity is very worldly - a cheap knockoff of the real thing. As a Christian, I, too, heavily criticize prosperity gospel megachurches.
