What a delightful and informative tour courtesy of Hershel and Alfredo and their crew. So many varieties of citrus with the variegated and finger citrus perhaps stealing the show.I' mso pleased with my two US942 plants as they are healthy and growing like weeds.I cant wait to see what paw paws and persimmons youll have available next year. But the citrus ,to me,are the main attraction here. Thanks again Madison Citrus for this video❤😂 !
@madisoncitrusnursery2 ай бұрын
We were so surprised at just how good 942 fruit taste for those growing out of zone. Citrus is definitely the main squeeze here but there are some really good pawpaw and persimmon we cant wait to share with you all. The variegated citrus are gorgeous though, those will always be a show stopper. Thank you for commenting and watching our video.

Awesome work guys! Can't wait to order several more trees this year. Trifeola is an exciting variety, we're trialing it here in NC too. Hopefully it is both cold hardy and capable of ripening fairly good fruit in our climate.

We really appreciate the kind words. Hershell loves to share his knowledge and we look forward to getting more videos out there. Where are you located and what are you growing citrus wise currently?
@littlebexarfarm2 ай бұрын
@@madisoncitrusnursery located in Texas. I currently grow citrus in ground within a High tunnel. Producing a ton of citrus and sell at our local farmers market. My favorites to grow are blood oranges, cara cara, ponkan and kishu citrus. Due to restrictions there’s only certain places I can get citrus plants right now. Hopefully that changes in the future. 🤞

Shiranui? 19:58 what could you compare this to regarding taste? Thanks for the tour.
@madisoncitrusnursery2 ай бұрын
There really isnt anything that I could compare it to. They sell something very similar in the grocery store under a trade name, they are large mandarins with a knot on top, a very unique shape that you have likely seen in stores. They are sweet, have great texture and can be about the size of a softball. They are one of the top 3 varieties we sell by volume.

I wish I had bought all my citrus from you guys except the first one, I got a really nice Meyer Lemon from Home Depot last year already fruiting for $40 and less than 50 cents tax and all. Thanks for sharing all that with us.
@madisoncitrusnursery2 ай бұрын
When you are ready to add some additional varieties definitely check out what we have. Otherwise enjoy the trees you have and Meyer is a favorite among so many people! Its the one that sucks everyone in and then they start adding from there, the "gateway citrus". Thanks for taking the tour!

the Vaniglia Sanguigno looks amazing!
@madisoncitrusnursery2 ай бұрын
Its actually surprisingly good, it just doesnt taste like a citrus. Its acidless so it allows you to taste all the other typically masked nuance flavors in the fruit.

I'm so happy for you and your success and also jealous, too, I must confess. Would you mind telling me please what size pots you're using for those tree pots? It looks like they fit perfectly into cattle panels for stability across your tables. Also are you solely bottom watering? Do you keep water in it or just refill it every so number of days? I see the poly on top of your tables. Where or how do you get all your 942 and other rootstock? Your 2 ft tall rootstocks that are tightly bunched together, how do the middle ones get enough sunlight? ❤
@madisoncitrusnursery2 ай бұрын
Thank you for all of your questions, let me see what I can do to answer some of them. The tree pots are 4x4x13.5 and are something we are going to adding to our site in the next couple days, youd have to find a fencing that will fit as cattle panels wont be your answer. We do not solely bottom water, we use the poly to catch the water that drains out of the pots so its available to be reabsorbed and we water as needed. We grow most of our rootstock from seed or cuttings. We grow everything pot tight but they seem to be doing well so they must be finding enough sun, likely because its from above.

Love the content as always! Can you share any information on the Ashkan Citron variety?
@madisoncitrusnursery2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the question, we get our buds from certified budwood from FL, CA, TX budwood facilities. There is no real information typically given at the time of getting the budwoods. After doing research all I can tell you is that Ashkan Citron is a certified Citron variety with virtual no supporting documentation of the fruit or tree growth habits. Its a new variety for us so we wont see fruit for at least another year or two so until then I have no idea about anything beyond its name.

Grew up in the north, would drive south to visit relatives in Florida. There were Oranges, Mangoes, and Watermelons everywhere. The locals would sell their homegrown produce. Florida has two Oranges on their license plate. I recently visited and couldn't find a tasty Orange or smell fruit in the whole state. Q: WTF happened.?! Please create for taste, not just resistance, beauty, & shelf stability. There's a generation or two that don't know what a real Orange taste like.

Unfortunately with the citrus diseases they are having issues with the industry has been hit hard. We wholeheartedly agree with you that there is nothing like backyard grown, peak ripe, fresh citrus which is why we have the online mail order portion of our site to help people grow their own fresh citrus. It tastes so different than what you find in the grocery stores!
