That's how Republican politicians recruit these voters. They dream of one day being rich, so rich that you don't have to work. Unfortunately, the legislation that Republican politicians pass is only focused on keeping the rich people rich. Republican Politicians are not interested in helping poor people become rich.

Honestly, I've been developing Conservative views but mainly because I feel like the government is overreaching and because it also seems like we have a lot of unnecessary taxes. Those are the main two reasons but this means I've been leaning more towards the Republican side. Personally, I don't think you should classify all/most Republicans as wanting to be rich but not confronting the fact that they're poor for 2 reasons. The first one being that my dad, for instance, grew up in a really poor family and has worked hard his entire life to get to the point where he is now. He now resides in the upper-middle class and he's not looking towards being rich even though he's not swimming in cash. My second reason is that it's natural to wish for things in life. Poor people are likely going to wish to be rich. This doesn't mean that they can't face their own reality/situation. I can agree that most politicians are in it for the money/self-gain but I don't agree that poor Republicans can't face their own poverty. I could be wrong though so feel free to debate me.

Manny, immigrants pour into the USA from around the world all the time. So why do immigrants of Muslim faith and Mexicans concern you so much? Could it be that you are propagating a fear or distain against these specific groups of people for political leverage? Meanwhile the actual reason this town and many other small towns are struggling is the rise of automation in the industrial sector. Trump has said and done absolutely nothing about this issue. In fact, he has deliberately played into the hands of the corporate elite with the signing the recent GOP tax overhaul. One thing is for certain, Republicans have fooled a lot people.

The biggest hindrance to rural America is education. Alot of them don't have degrees or even high school diplomas. Jobs are becoming more advanced with technology factories aren't what they use to be. Back then it was acceptable to drop out of school to make money for your family. Now with jobs becoming more advanced rural America is being left behind. Trumps problem is he promised to bring jobs back but never specifically said how. If you really want to help rural America bring training programs and education to them so they can learn and become qualified with these new jobs and be able to provide for there family. In light of it all, we will develop new fields of work, and you should pursue things you actually like doing. Be a creator, that's what humans do. Create, invent and learn. Learn how to program, learn how to be an engineer, and yes you can learn the arts too. Peter Haslam but i do have a prediction... Most of the population is being squeezed out of the rural areas and the government wants you to be part of 'mega cities' or super cities. This will be inevitable. The rural areas in some few decades from now will be for the rich. Those California wildfires are no accident. Those are very nice homes but... It is possible that we are paying China debt through 'eminent domain'. Much like the chinese beverly hills you are seeing rising, you will see chinese conttinue to grow and own California. The U.S sold California, you just don't know it. The whole 'wall' idea should have been a hint for most people, who is known for their wall? The great wall of china. Gerald Bradley, we specialized during the Industrial Revolution. Not everyone has to be a farmer. Individual farmers in the 17th, 18th and 19th century were generally very poor. Technology has made it so that one farm can feed tens of thousands of people. Going back to individual farming may seem romantic to you, but it's not practical and it's not even possible for most people. If you're out of work and don't own land, where are you going to grow vegetables and raise pigs and cows? And how are you going to take care of your family while you're waiting for the first season's crops to come in? What about money? You'd have to grow enough food to sell most of it in order to buy clothes, pay your mortgage, etc. Or maybe you intend to shear your sheep and make clothes to send your kids to school in. How silly you are.

@sdwputnam The town is still recovering, but things are certainly looking up steadily. Housing values have started to rise in the area and many projects have been put into place to improve roads and gas lines. Amazon has finally begun a first round of hiring though many people have taken to commuting to Cincinnati and Dayton areas for work. The downtown area has come alive again with new shops and social events and even the Kroger in town got a face lift to include a new Starbucks. I think that the most important change is that people here actually believe that recovery is possible, and that belief alone has been a catalyst for progress and increased value within the community. I'm a 30 year old army veteran who was born and raised here, and while I have been all over the world, I can honestly say that I am proud of my small town and I am grateful to see it coming back to life.

The corn and cotton grown here is being used or eaten by all of us on the coasts but we seldom realize that and don’t often care. This isn’t toward you but I have always felt that people on the coasts are more ignorant and uneducated then those they call ignorant and uneducated from rural America and know about the land and how to fend for themselves and make the most from what they have rather then having it always handed.
@dfindlay6203
@dfindlay6203 3 жыл бұрын
@@pattycarljackson I will agree that most of us on the coasts are uneducated concerning land, and growing food, which is definitely a needed skill. While we may have more "technical" skills, and "street smarts", (IMO) citizens in rural areas are more likely to survive if everything shut down. If our grocery stores closed, most of us would starve. With such a diverse and wide-spread population in this country, how do you propose the federal government meet ALL of our needs? Just as important, how much responsibility do the elected leaders in our local governments have in our day-to-day living situations? IMO, I feel that we place too much on the shoulders of the federal government, and not enough on the local government. The comparison between the lives of rural and urban citizens is a great example. Our challenges are vastly different, so how can the federal government possibly address the concerns of each and every town in the USA?

I don't see how the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer is improving our economy? And what about those stats? Sure seems like a lot of unemployment in a lot of rural areas. Things were much better in the 60s-90s. Your dollar went much farther. The middle class is being squeezed so much that Republicans want to "increase" the definition of middle class to include people making $450K a year.

Man, so many people in these comments are missing the point. People in these towns are usually ignored by politicians. People in this town in particular are having a hard time because a large corporation left and took the jobs with it. They are struggling to get through the week, and their personal lives are being affected as well. They voted for Trump because he made fun of a lot of politicians and promised to bring them jobs. He stood out and made himself appear to have their back. Of course they will vote for him. When you are that desperate you will over look alot of negative things as long as your promised your salvation. Theyre not stupid, and theyre not bad people. They are just poor and overlooked and that made them desperate. Life in these towns is different than a city. Please keep that in mind.

I believe what commenters find frustrating is that these voters lack the basic knowledge needed to be a good citizen. Most of them have no idea how the 3 branches of government work, how bills becomes laws, where their tax dollars go, etc. They're ignorant of history, economics, and law -- but instead of being humble and educating themselves, they angrily demand the world cater to their limitations. It's hard to feel sympathy for those who are their own worst enemy.

Dems founded Medicare. Medicaid. Min Wage Laws. Unemployment. GI Bill. On and on and on. ALWAYS supporters of the working class and the poor. @@gusjackson3658 they did choose a different candidate in the primaries: Bernie Sanders. But the DNC stole the primary and gave it to Hillary because they were worried they'd lose corporate donors if they went with Sanders, despite him getting more votes and being the most popular politician in the entire country. These aren't hardcore Republicans (for the most part). A LOT of people who intended to vote for Sanders switched to Trump after the DNC betrayed them as a kind of protest, and because he was the only candidate left who was talking to them. Hillary called their homes flyover country, refused to even visit their states. Trump was obviously lying but at least he was talking about their real life-or-death issues instead of bathroom signs and manspreading. I don't agree with them, but I can understand it.

Trump can't force a business to move in. What he did do is cut the corporate tax rate so yes he did lend a hand but it's up to the city government to bring in the businesses. If the town totally fails it's not Trumps fault at this point. The building blocks are now there for the city government to start bringing in the businesses.
@xev1435
@xev1435 6 жыл бұрын
corporate tax rate cut alone doesn't simulate business. It is also access yo markets, which Trump is shutting down due to his ill informed "trade war" It is access to workers, skilled young ones which he doesn't want due to his war on migration. It is access to loans whose interest rates are going up due to uncertainty he has created, and it is also access to customers, which is is destroying by waging war against the middle class, skyrocketing health care costs, housing costs, and fuel prices, removing disposable income. So your answer is poor and reflective to the stupidity plaguing our nation
@Monotremata
@Monotremata 6 жыл бұрын
"MOVE" is a very easy recommendation but not everyone has the resources to effect a move to where more jobs are. Some people may be shackled to their area due to caring for aging parents, lack of money, no friends or relatives to help them out, etc. And moving is a big risk for a lot of people. After the terrible recession that the nation went through, I guess that many people don't have a lot of stomach for taking risks after getting burned when the economy tanked....

I've moved all over the country for work. Join the club. I get it that you don't want to move but at some point you have to eat. To think politicians on either side give a f about you is deceiving ones self. And with automation that has been evolving since the 70's those jobs are becoming less and less. Not only here but even in other countries where labor is cheap. The goal of the top percent earners is to have all the money and for us to have none or gravel and do their bidding. Plain and simple. And they pit us Americans against each other based on our emotional response to the bs that is coming out of their mouths. Goodluck guys.
