Wanted: Dead Review - The Final Verdict

This is what makes Wanted: Dead stand out from its contemporaries. It’s the intentional silliness and jank that hearkens back to the PS2 era, perfectly encapsulating the games that defined the childhoods of an entire generation. Those kids are all grown up now, and the way the industry is heading often looks like it will alienate us.
So, it’s fantastic to have a game that doesn’t want to squeeze every last penny out of you or try to be a 100+ hour experience. Wanted: Dead just wants to be weird and fun, and that’s exactly what it is.

It's a "if you don't cry over hard games that require fast reactions to master (not slow stuff like Souls' games)" and you liked games from the 2002-2012 era (Dead to Rights, No More Heroes, WET, Devil's Third, etc.) you're gonna love this one. But if you're more a slow-pace gamer who loves tons of dialogues, tons of side quests, open worlds, slow circular combat with only 2 different sets of attacks...this one ain't.

I became a AA and indie games addicted person during the passt few years. Many of the 6- 8 games were my favorites and while most AAA games bored the hell out of me. I have the feeling, that this will give me a good time too. I loved for example Vampyr, Greedfall, Ghost of a Tale, Steelrising, Soulstice, Asterigos Curse of the Stars, We Happy Few, etc.

Final score aside, it's really easy to understand if this game is worth your time and money, I can't say the same about many AAA big titles whose flaws are overlooked only cause they got great graphics and a good story. This one has a "back to basics" feel that I simply love, maybe too back for most gamers and that's something I understand and respect.

game is fun... i like it...but it s also all the problems of actual japanese video game industries... they still stock on the 6th generation consols.. it s nice to make an old time game but you dont need to put all the problems of those game in... for me the worst is the shoot.... with katana the game is fun with guns its just painfull. i mean we are in 2023 even mass effect 16 years ago did it better... and you dont need to have enemy who are pv bags. you need 20 bullet with a rifle to kill an enemy you can kill in 2 or 3 katana slice its absurde.

Okay. Might just be me, but the video/game seems to contradict what you're saying. For example you talk about the combat "working" but I'm seeing the character roll around and completely missing hits and barely able to lock on to enemies, and enemies shooting at you and missing badly while you try to throw grenades at them. It seems like you're afraid to say the game is bad. And you said the cutscenes are bad, but good...huh? Damn I don't know what to think. I really want to like this game because like the reviewer said, I am so sick of 40 hour games that are just padded fetch quests. I want levels designed by artists and not algorithms that procedurally design levels of "endless" mediocre gameplay and/or roguelike games where you perform the exact same action over and over and over in the exact same level over and over and over. That stuffs OK for an RPG but they've started putting it into action games now just so they can boast of having all these hours of same ol mediocre soulless gameplay. I've seen 2 reviews so far, IGN says the game sux and these guys say it's really good. Scared to read more because like I said, I was hoping this game would be good and right now it's a coin flip.

It does have a lot of jank, but they really should have toned back on the story, cutscenes are long, boring, and near insufferable. Not helped by the horribly voice main character, if that's intentional for the throwback, it was a bad decision. But past that, I am having a lot of fun with it, especially as I fill the skill tree. If they'd have just done minimilstic set ups between stages, it'd have all flowed a lot better.

How much did the devs pay you for this review? I played the game and its nothing like you described, FIRST off all the combat is BARE bones, a very light hack and slash at most even when you unlock more moves you will be using the typical slash slash slash combo as you were shown in the video using, this is NOTHING like Ninja Gaiden in terms of combat and with how you keep comparing it it makes me think you've never played any of the ninja gaiden games. Many of what you highlighted in the videos don't outweigh the cons of this game, you only need look at steam reviews to see for yourself, this wasn't a loveletter to PS2 era games, this was just a bad game in general that the devs wanted to mask its shortcomings in nostalgia. Its price tag is also ridculous, this is a 30$ game tops.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!! I just paid over $30 for this garbage on Playstation website, and it was on sale too. I played it for 3 hours, and it was a biggest disappointment. I deleted the game. The graphics looked SO horrible, and It felt like an unpolished EARLY PS 2 game. The game play was a joke. The movement wasn't even smooth like it was protrayed in the "GAME TRAILER!!" It felt very low quality and somewhat jerky. The aiming for the machine gun was horrible because I couldn't even see the reticle, and It took me several seconds just to locate it during a gun battle. The was NO map available, and I had to locate the boss by running around the entire location. The enemies took forever to die even with a machine gun! The developer stuffed the game with punch of boring and slow cut scenes in order to fill up the game!! I felt like the developer was trying to make a "QUICK CASH GRAB" by producing a poor quality product with misleading game trailer and marketing!! In my opinion, this particualr game was made wtih very low budget and a sloppy development team. The company use terms like "Developed by Ex Ninja Gaiden Development Team" in order to embellish this crappy product. So sick of game trailer trying to mislead consumers, and they have the audacity to charge over $50 for this product. DO NO TBUY THIS GAME. STAY AWAY FROM IT. I wouldn't pay over $5 for this.

Exactly Epic review on this game love it it reminds me of games like wet and Stranglehold along with dead to rights games that I miss so much from playing it on the PS2 to Xbox 360 back then when games was so much fun and not trying to be something else and the score was perfect

This is exactly what I wanted- a linear action game with gratuitous violence, intentionally bad voice acting, 15- 20 hour campaign. Quirky Japanese flair. Day one purchase for me. 😎♥️

I know what this is. Back in the day in the ps2 era that were a whole bunch of rated 4-7 ish action games that experimented in various. Ironically these same games that many say are now "hidden gems" LOL. This game is an od to those set of games.

It’s looks fun I’ll check it out at a lower price cause money but it looks like something you’ll play on the ps2 or ps3 and have a good time with. Third person action that doesn’t take itself seriously sounds great right now. Plus seems the negative reviews are about minor things really. Edit: great reviews

Game is ok, not great but also not as bad as people claiming it to be. It really harks back to the good old days of janky but fun ps2/ps3/360 shooters. Highly recommended if you can get this game on sale.

As someone who has been gaming since the Atari and Coleco Vision, I’ll admit that I’m more than interested. But it ain’t worth $80 imo. I’ll wait to pick it on sale up for $30 or $40.
