Brings back many wonderful memories of a trip my wife and I took in April, five years ago! We visited Hiroshima and Miyajima, then went up through the central mountains, Tsuwano, then up the coast to Izumo Taisha and Matsue. The Sea of Japan coastline was really beautiful We even stayed in a coastal town near Hamada called Yunotsu. From what Japanese people were telling us, Shimane Prefecture is the "inaka no inaka" , the real boonies, the heartland of old Japan. Good luck on your trip, and thanks for your videos!

I went to "Izumo Taisya" shrine about 30 years ago. This shrine is popular among Japanese young people because it is known as the god of marriage. After visiting there, I went to several hot spring areas, one of them is Misasa Spa, around this area, Sanin area. One of typical foods is crab called "Matubagani" and it's very delicious.

You are such an amazing person, John. Sincerely, just wonderful. I consider myself so fortunate to have found your channel, and for having the opportunity to follow along with you on your journey. Every place has been so unique and special, with unbelievable beauty that can be almost breathtaking. I was raised a Catholic, but wouldn't consider myself really practicing anymore. I'm more spiritual than anything, but there is something about being in a place like that, such holy and sacred grounds, that no matter what your beliefs and views, you are just drawn to something higher than yourself. You want to respect the shrine, because you can feel that it has earned your respect. ❤🙏 🙏❤

Hahah... the word John was searching for was "traditional" or "historical" look. :P This is one of the things I absolutely loved about my trip on Japan... we've been to Akihabara, Shinjuku, Harajuku among other districts in Tokyo - packed and modern places, brands, stores, huge LCD displays and whatnot - and then we went to Nikko Toshogu, visited onsens, temple complexes and smaller towns... how the train stations changes from capitals to less populated areas. It's all pretty awesome. The contrast between modernity and traditional/historical places is awe inspiring, and impressive how they keep it relatively well separated. Sometimes you get smaller temples that look like they belong to a scene a thousand years ago somehow burried in the middle of a modern neighborhood. The opposite is also true. Looking from the shinkansen, there were places completely empty with rice fields, mountains in the back, dirt roads in between... but right there in the middle of it all.... vending machines! xD It's not only in Izumo that you'll find that look and level of preservation, we've been to smaller towns up in Fukushima that had a similar look to it. Can't remember the name of this really impressive temple/shrine complex we went with tall trees and this really small gift shop in the middle of it all, traditional style. It's like, you walk around dragging your chin on the ground along with you. There weren't many tourists that day, it was cold and raining a bit, we just entered the gift shop that had this heater in the middle of it, just us, and a couple of the store owners/caretakers... what an experience. And there are these places where you get totally confused about how clean and well preserved they are, yet you see no one out there (out of season)... it's a bit haunting. xD Not a peep around, just nature sounds, no one shouting, no one speaking on the phone, no screen haze and such. It transports you to the past and you feel like you are in some other time. All this added to the sense of security, there's this sense of freedom beyond any comparison. Sorry, my nostalgia is killing me. xD

vidsofyermom how long does it take to study Japanese? Including reading and writing.
@o.h.gaming20067 жыл бұрын
AcquaNINJA or if u r single and no kids, u can just move out there and fully immerse yourself into there culture. and money wise, right now the American dollar amount is worth more, not a whole lot more but more, so start saving up. Also do your research first as well. There are places where u will find that there are a lot of English speaking people. because they moved out there to live too or because they where sent out there because of there job. I would say someplace big to like Tokyo, it's diversity there is a lot better then the country side l, and more transportation. and more people there that speak some English vs the country side and no one there probably doesn't speak English. and or if u meet some one out there and u start to date them that will help too, so check to see if they have something like e-harmony a dating site. well best of luck if u do move out there.
