A trick for minor flickering ... duplicate the footage, ofsset the timing by a frame, reduce opacity to 50%. In this case I would also add a power window. That SHOULD reduce the flickering immensly. If you have a proper deflicker tool, use that but in a pinch for light flickering ... this trick can work. Side note: I started making tutorials as well and I am so jealous of people like YOU, Mr. Alex Tech, Casey Ferris, Ryan Conolly ... you all have such great camera presence in your tutorials!

Hot tip: if you add a vignette in post, don't do it as a simple black overlay. Ideally you wanna use a blend mode like overlay or soft light for it since vignettes almost never linearly approach black. Overlay and softlight also effect the luma, chroma and hue of the underlying footage which is much more natural.

As a request, I'd like to see how you edited a clunky back and forth scene that was too long....show us the before and after so we could see how much shortening a weak scene helps.

SAME. But also the wireless lav audio of dialogue for my project had terrible interference. AND without consistent slating nor timecode I just spent the weekend manually syncing up disorganized audio to the shots which I'd already edited in a timeline. (I took breaks) The auto-sync tool failed to work with the corrupted audio of the Rode WirelessGo lav that was recorded to camera, and I found no simple way in DaVinci Resolve for re-populating a manual sync of raw clips on one timeline into all the cut up shots on another timeline. So, here I am dragging and dropping each bit of external audio under every individual 2 to 7 second shot in the edit (since I got the better boom audio later) and trying to find clear consonants to match up with actors mouths, sometimes realizing the reason it would get slightly off later was because it was sound from one of the other takes with the same words.... Not even to mention needing to reframe to crop out stuff like a mic in frame, which meant needing to similarly reframe subsequent shots to be consistent. I'm telling myself the silver lining is this is like an ultimate challenge for learning to use this software I'm new to. Thanks for the space to vent. Back to the grind now 🫡

This was great, Kent! I learned a lot, even though I will never be as proficient in post as you are. Just goes to show that you really do "write" a film the third time in the edit!

Love this! thanks for sharing I switched to Davinci Resolve a few months ago due to $$. Premiere Pro was getting too costly. If you have any tips/tricks for Davinci, that would be great! I remember your course on sound design and use it for all my videos Thanks again! I love your work!

As both a DP and Editor, I'd rather be a DP since I can do a decent job, send it to any editor and it might still look good. I don't wanna suffer editing footage that looks bad that I can't salvage hahaha.

Hey! Just a quick question, why do you use layers for the power window effect, instead of applying multiple Lumetri effect and then create a mask? Does it affect the image quality or like lower the quality of the image? Just curious. You’re amazing sir! Love your vids
@StandardStoryCo
@StandardStoryCo Ай бұрын
Depending on what you're doing, doubling up color effects on the same clip can cause weird things to happen w/ the color and potentially degrade the footage, so it's safer (and simpler for my brain) to do it this way IMO
