I remember seeing this a few years back. Glad to see you reacted to his "updated" version. The original version (whilst longer), was not as smooth as a transition as this was. I agree with you, fandoms can be great when people do things like this. There's lots of examples where people have painstakingly colourised pictures and entire scenes from the earlier 60's episodes.

The Doctor Who production team have actually recruited a some of these fans based on their KZbin work. One of them created an intro/title sequence that got adapted and became the 12th doctors intro. I think he also did 13th's too. One of the fans became a key VFX contributor for 13th's run and even got to do her regeneration scene.

There's also a video where the 5th Doctor regenerates like It's 2010, which is quite a fun one (from the same author as this was). He even uses the "next time" sequence, as we're so used to seeing in Modern Who, but with a mixed theme of 80's and 2005-2010 theme and scenes from 6th Doctor episodes.
