Really vividly depicts how horrible the Civil War truly was. Brothers and cousins had to fight each other across the dividing lines betw. North and South. The banjo is beautiful.

One of the best U.S. Civil War movies I've seen...EXCELLENT ACTING! - and it speaks to the sufferings of the real victims of that terrible conflict - the civilians - especially the southern civilians - the women and the children. They were literally caught in the crossfire of two murderous and ruthless armies who asked no quarter and gave no quarter: total war! There were 600,000 KIA combined losses of the Confederate Union armies - but the civilian deaths can only be estimated - the conservative count of at least 500,000 civilian deaths (1861-65) from wounds, disease, starvation and anarchy. Total casualties civilian and military in the U.S. Civil War was very likely over one million - and half the country reduced to ruins. This out of a population of about 35 million.

As on old Virginian from a misunderstood history, I always applaud any effort to depict fuller aspects of this cruel and misunderstood war. Berringer in union blue was a treat as well, having played Longstreet so brilliantly in the past. A special treat of a film and many thanks for sharing.

This movie was released in 2012. It was good that Tom Berringer was still working. A part's a part. The movie business is a cruel way to make a living. Actors and actress's get kicked to the curb when the movie makers are done using them. No thanks, would not want to be in business, period.

Christina Ricci looks more gorgeous as the years go by. I remember seeing "The Adams Family" film when I was a kid, and immediately developed a crush on her. I love her performance in this film. Excellent movie showing the hardships Civil War soldiers and civilians endured. The actress Melody, Gabrielle Popa, was excellent as was Christina Ricci. A few movie props in error visible: a microphone wire dangling from the Confederate soldier, Tim, on his way out and unexplained trash in late scene by the front porch steps. Music was very moving and the photography was very realistic.

Thank you so much for sharing with me this fragment of history. Soon the fulfillment of Isaiah 2:4 will take place: "He will render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, nor will they learn war anymore." We will enjoy absolute peace, for all the tragical events will be forgotten, according to Isaiah 65:17: "For look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth; And the former things will not be called to mind, Nor will they come up into the heart." And there is more.

It wasn't the South that destroyed the North. Yes there was suffering on both sides no doubt. But the North raped., murdered, tortured burned and pillaged the Defenseless citizens of the South. When Lee marched through Pennsylvania his Army did take livestock, horses, mulled and Ox. But they left the dirt farmers at least one Mule or Ox so they could keep farming. They didn't burn one Crop. They didn't burn or pillage the personnel possessions from Pennsylvania's Homes. They did commit one crime against one Pennsylvanian. When Lee put out those orders one of his Officers said it would be much easier to follow those Orders if the North showed the South the same Grace. Lee replied we are not like them we will do this God's way. We should have never had this war.

@kurtsherrick2066 2 жыл бұрын
@@edward1676 No they didn't. You need to learn some History. Lee made sure they didn't. The Movie Gettysburg even showed that in the movie. When Lee's Armada was over 50 miles long. Thousands of Pennsylvania came to watch the Confederate March. They came to see the starving, barefooted Army that had been beating their boys for two years. There was not one crime committed on a Pennsylvanian. Not one crop was burned. Not one home was pillaged or burned. When the Union Army Marched through the South the Southern Citizens that could ran and hid. They hid their possessions. They were tortured, raped, murdered by the thousands including thousands of slaves. I want you to think about something. Do you know that Russian History says Stalin was a Saint? Lincoln's Tariff War which was illegal is responsible for over 850,000 Americans deaths. All the South wanted was to leave in peace and Govern themselves. They were forced to stay in a Government that was terrible to them by gunpoint. Before the War the South was the Wealthiest Region in the World. That is why Lincoln invaded the South. He knew the North would not survive without the South.

Gart,the South is not amused by your show of disrespect for our accent. We have learned to look over the uneducated and the ignorant who insist on making a mockery of a culture they will never experience or understand. I invite you to perhaps visit the Southern portion of our great country at some point in your life and experience what real Southern Hospitality is. Dont believe everything you see or hear in the movies and on MSM who insist on painting us in a negative way. Most of these actors wouldnt know a Southern accent if it hit them between their eyes. We cringe every time we hear one of them making an attempt at our accent that werent born and raised here. Its a disgrace and an insult to our heritage. Good day sir. Gods blessings to you and yours.

This is how it was family on BOTH sides of the war. It was like this for MY family too. Looking back into the history of my family, we too had people ON BOTH sides of the war. Thing is, all of them were believer's in God. I do not think that God chooses sides in wars, but rather He chooses people, who come to Him with out stretched hands, asking for His guidance, love, and forgiveness. All of God's children wind up on different sides of political issues, as they do today. Many misguided Christians think God picks political parties, well, in reading the Scriptures, Jesus never did that, He reached out to people, He healed them, loved them, fed them, forgave them--taught them to do the same with their fellow man, in the end, HE gave up His life for the whole world and rose again, and defeated death! That is the spiritual death. While there is war and terror in the Ukraine right now, I am praying for all the people involved. I pray most for the elderly, homeless, disabled, orphans, widows and widowers and hungry and the helpless--both Christians and non-Christians. AS the non-Christians need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, they need His Love, so that it will change them, and they can put down their weapons of war. Thanks for this movie, because even in MY own family history there are stories on both sides during the Civil War of assisting the so called enemy because of the love of Jesus Christ. Human decency and compassion are gifts from God. Bless you for the movie! Thanks!
