@@k_hack9441 The DNC welcomed parents of Israeli hostages to speak and refused requests of pro Palestinian DELAGATES to speak. Protests are an effort for voices to be heard when other avenues shut that speech down. It's exactly the same posture they take, in expressing concern for the "children dying" while sending more bombs to kill more children. You are not getting a fair picture of the conflict because the media is colluding with elected officials who are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Israeli lobby. The US is uniquely able to shut this mass murder down immediately by withdrawing "support". The Democrats are in office right now, so that's primarily on them, and they are letting us get dangerously close to WW3. We will not jet off to a safer place if the bombs start dropping here. We don't have underground palaces waiting for us to flee to, just like the Palestinians don't have a choice as their homes are being turned to rubble and their communities are slaughtered. There is no both sides in this instance. Currently we do not have a majority in the House. Biden is not running for re-election. He is doing everything to bring peace, but then we have Trump directly calling a far right leader further obstructing the process, quid-pro-ing AGAIN for his own political gain, and committing yet another crime. We are 70 days until the most important election of our country’s history. Even if Harris plans to take a stronger stand against Netanyahu, this is NOT a time for her to do anything, as SHE is not in power. While I fully support these protesters cause, they are going to cost us the ability to do ANYTHING because THEY will cost us our slim chance to regain control of the House AND the Senate. They can easily throw this election to Trump, thanks to our draconian electoral college system. Acting out in this crucial time, DEMORALIZES the very volunteers working every day 24/7 to help Dems win this election. It also depresses turnout for those who are not paying attention to the news and aren’t engaged in politics 24/7. It’s absolutely ridiculous to do ANYTHING other than be CIVIL. Demonstrating as a peaceful protest is different than creating civil unrest.

Very mixed feelings about this one. (1) lots of respect for colbert that he not only let the protests be heard but also repeated the followup about arms without any kind of reframing, full well knowing that that would put Pelosi out of the comfort zone of agreeable talking points. (2) Pelosis answer to the first question was fair but indeed unsatisfying because it's evading the core question of arms delivery (3) on the other hand, it most certainly is not in Pelosis interest to have Netanjahu continue with his unspeakable cruelty. Based on that assumption and knowing Pelosi to be an experienced strategist, it kind of follows that shes probably calculating that it's best to hold your cards close to the chest, if you will. Who knows what kinds of pressure they are applying to Netanjahu behind the scenes. Or not. But I'd really be surprised if they were not, because even assuming a cynical 100% self interest , even from such a position of self interest, an interest in ending these atrocities still logically follows. Oh well. For the moment, thank you colbert for handling this with decency instead of shouting "someone show those terrorist supporters the door" or similar dishonest BS like we've heard in so many places lately. And yeah, all pro Palestine people hopefully realize that still, for an actual chance for peace, the dems must win at all costs. Trump is a million times worse on this matter. And both Harris and Walz have signaled a much more critical view of this horrible subject compared to Biden. In not too subtle ways. As non subtle as they can without supplying the GOP with a chest full of dishonest talking points that could cost the election (and with that, any chance for peace in the middle east whatsoever).

I think the Speaker does also deserve some recognition for that. There are a lot of politicians who would fully refuse to engage with the protester, even if the host asked them to. I also want to point out that she gave her position, which she knew wouldn't appease that protester. She softened it a little bit ("Israel has the right to defend itself"), but she didn't lie about what her position is or has been, or what Israel has done and continues to do.

Agreed. A two state solution is not a reality at this point. What's left of the West Bank is non-contiguous enclaves that can't truly be administered, and Israel polices much of the land. It's partly because of the peace accords in '93 and the non stop settlers which makes the two state solution an impossibility. The Palestinian Authority also has it's share of blame but I feel Israel shoulders most of it. And most western countries turned a blind eye to the settlers illegally taking land from the West Bank.

Try that in Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Thailand, Equatorial Guinea, Tajikistan, Cambodia, even Singapore, and dozens of other countries, where protests against the government are considered to be threatening to the security of the nation? That is what Kamala Harris is fighting for, among many other things. That is what Donald Trump is fighting against in his vow to exact retribution from his political enemies, to equate his own fortunes with those of the nation. Well, that's what autocrats always do.

@@saitodosan9377 Pelosi did a great job in her 2 stints as Speaker. When Obama was elected, she was instrumental in passing legislation so the Great Recession was not the Great Depression 2.0. Also, without her the ACA never would have passed. It was on life support despite huge Dem majorities in both chambers. She kept Trump on as short a leash as possible in the modern era of the imperial presidency. She skillfully handled both impeachments knowing the Senate would never convict but she did not shy away from the fight. And again like in 2008-09, when COVID hit, she made sure American families received government aid. She has passed the torch to Jeffries but remains the eminence gris. She demurred, but there's been enough reporting to believe she was instrumental in pushing Biden to his reluctant decision. It may be for the best but aside from being a huge gamble, I feel it was disloyal and not the act of a friend. Even if it had to be done and only she could orchestrate it, it still leaves a bad taste.

Yup. One of the rare comments in this frankly despicable comments section. Israel is modern day Nazi Germany, and most comments here are ghoulishly callous about that fact.

They both know that living in a democracy means you can protest and disagree with those in charge. Sometimes it's just in the wrong place at the wrong time but it's still a right that we have, and they both respected that.

No matter what side you're on the Israel/Palestine confilct...one thing that's true is the root issue of the conflict has been going on for over 100 years. I'm not even sure a 2-state solution (although that is progress) would solve their internal issues -- even if the U.S. stops sending/selling arms to Israel. And that's what's sad about all this. What's even sadder is that a lot Black folks -- who support Palestine's struggle -- are actually upset with them right now because they are interrupting a historical Black event (Harris' DNC nomination) to make it about themselves. Yes, that sounds harsh but alot of us feel that way right now. Anyways, it's going to take the UN (who created the original Israel Palestine split in 1947) to really do something about it. Or this conflict will continue for another 100 years.

@@CHEYMIX I don't think there is a side to this war, unless it's peace vs. attacks. Then it would be like slavery, which, sadly, many republicans think should be a thing.

She cannot even bring herself to say Palestine and she's talking about supporting a 2-state solution. What a load of BS and hypocrisy.
