War was a band with a number of hits in the 70s. Interesting mix of r & b, reggae,Latin and a smattering of jazz. Slipping into Darkness, Cisco Kid are classics from them

Not just a road trip song, back in the day this song was blasting out of everybody's cars as the cruised the strips in CA. Man those were the days! Finest cars on display, everybody just having a good time on Friday and Saturday night going from one end of the strip to the other and then back again! Gas was only 50-75 cents a gallon so you could cruise all night for less than two bucks! lol

I got a rescue chihuahua back in 2004 who was about one year old. I was on a road trip a few months later and I stuck in a War cd and when lowrider came on he perked up and howled. He would howl whenever this song played. He had no reaction to any other song.

This song was not made for the movie but fit perfectly. The movie is funny as hell. This song was also the intro for George Lopez's show.

This song is a little older than 1978. I think it came out in 75, I was in kindergarten when it came out. I've dated myself and said to much already...

Up In Smoke with Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, is most definitely worth the hour and a half it takes to watch. PeeWee Herman, or rather Paul Reubens puts in an appearance as "The Hamburger Man" that is well...disturbing. But that is the case with most of the characters in the movie. "Low Rider" is the "high" point of the movie, and one of War's best, and most enduring songs. Those guys from San Francisco know how to make some really good music. "Livin' In The Red", "Summer", "The Cisco Kid", "Why Can't We Be Friends", etc. Enjoy.

We listened to Cheech & Chong records in high school. It was the late seventies and stoner humor was wildly popular amongst us teenagers.

Up in Smoke has nothing to do with this iconic song. It was a smash hit before the movie ever existed, regardless if they used it. I was in high school in 1975 when this came out. I remember driving my grandpa’s 1961 Cadillac with my friends inside and this came over the radio. It had electric seats and we promptly adjusted the seats as low as they would go and we jammed out to this song!
@JC-tq8gm2 жыл бұрын
When I was a teenager it was the funniest thing out there! Of course my eyes were a little bloodshot when I saw it. lol I haven't seen it in a million years so I'm not sure how it's aged, but if you have a sense of humor you might just love it.

I grew up in east San Jose California and this song was like an anthem to the low riders. All of my friends from toddler to 17 were Latinos or Samoans. When I was kicked out by my dad I went to Santa Rosa California where my mother lived. Less than a year later I enlisted in the Marine Corps. I knew that boot camp and becoming a Marine would be easier than the constant verbal abuse from my stepfather who was a prejudiced ass, and the distance my high school classmates kept because of my "spanglish " accent. I only had a couple of fights since I learned street time in my home turf. Sorry for the ramble, but this jam brings it all back. Love ya girl.

War is Afro/ Cuban/ funk vibe, started in early 70s, and “ kinda” got on the map, when Eric Burdon, serious white boy 60s British rocker, fronted them for a minute. He did the “Spill the wine” psychedelic, lol whatever it was song, but classic. Best work, “ The World is a Ghetto”, Slippen Into Darkness, All Day Music, worth a deeper dive in too. (:
@jamesstrickland5172 жыл бұрын
Went to my first concert in 1971 Eric Burdon & War was the headliner but they did not get to perform as the concert was shut down by police for the overly large cloud of pot smoke at the outdoor arena from the previous three bands which were Last Nickle, Sugarloaf, and Deep Purple. BTW tickets were $3.50.

UP IN SMOKE (1978) Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong Definately worth seeing if only because it is so iconic, part of our social fabric. You will laugh hard. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the movie was woven out of their stand-up comedy material. My dad's musician friends gave him the album of their stand-up stuff, and i remember listening to the "Dave's not here" routine and others way before i saw the movie. This song plays in the movie and the scene is hilarious. Go see, you'll have fun -

Up in Smoke is the original stoner movie. To be honest I doubt you'll get into it or understand a lot of it. A little tid bit. Tommy chong went to prison for selling bongs. While in prison his cellmate was the "Wolf of Wall Street". Tommy talked him into writing the book that became the movie
