Grandma and Grandpa were living in East Orange, New Jersey at the time and we're playing cards and listening to another station, they woke-up the next morning only to read the headlines. 😆 i did play my Old Time Radio Reruns of War of the Worlds for Grandma and she was pretty enraptured by it. ❤

Belgium broadcasters did, in the '90s, went live to announce that the northern part of the country declared unilaterally it's independence. A lot of people thought it was true, down to the Crown Prince, then on a Asian tour.

The fact it was an accident makes it all the more impressive. And says alot about the general public.

@michaelmcwilliams4380: I first heard WOTW in spring 1971 when I was at college. I woke up in the middle of the night and the broadcast was already in progress (I always sleep with my radio on) and I must admit, it caught me off guard for about a minute. My family used to talk about the old radio shows when I was growing up and it dawned on me that this must be the famous WOTW. So, for about a minute or so, I, too, was caught up in the spell of “War Of The Worlds”.

It still sounds real listening to it today and the two or three remakes from The Buffalo station here in New York in 1968, 1971, and 1973. All the broadcasts are here on KZbin.

How can this be considered a hoax when they so obviously announced it was an adaptation of H.G. Wells.

It's not a hoax. They're are just trying to confuse the masses to enslave us.

What is so tragic about this broadcast is that (in its German version) quite a few people pannicked and committed suicide because of it.... No blame to all the actors involved - noone could have anticipated this.

Why do I think I"ll learn something new from these videos? What type of programs did the Mercury Theater of the Air broadcast before this one? Weren't they also radio plays? Didn't Wells end the broadcast by saying it was his attempt at jumping out from behind the bushes and saying Boo! to CBS? So the newspapers went out of their way to eggagerate the affect of the fake show by creating fake stories of their own? Also, if you actually listened to the broadcast, towards the end it wasn't this attack that was on the air but Wells all by himself talking to another survivor of the invasion and how they conduct themselves. A run of the mill radio play. It would have been nice if there was an interview of someone who actually had heard the broadcast back then.

I wonder how many of you remember hearing your parents talking about this. As a result we never had a TV and the only music listened to was healing songs or cultural. We got a tv late seventies but was always reminded to not believe everything you hear or see on the box. Sometimes the contents are just "rekidulous", And this is why we today stockpiled toilet paper when COVID Plandemic Broke out. Fear and ignorance and money can influence common sense. Check it out.
