The trouble with that is, you need the vivid and fertile imaginations authors like H.G. Wells, Jules Verne and Mary Wollstonecraft-Shelly, and they just don't exist anymore.

It isn't as "better" as you think. In the original broadcast of this famous episode, when news reporter Carl Phillips (the voice of Frank Readick) is describing the opening of the Martian cylinder at Grover's Mill, New Jersey, he sees someone climbing out of the cylinder and says, "There's someone crawling out of the hollow top, someone or something." However, in the version heard here, his words are mashed together so that it sounds like he's saying, "There's someone, uh oh, something." I don't know how or why this happened, but this mistake seems to be quite common in different recordings of the program on tapes, C.D.s, KZbin videos, etc, some of which make two other mistakes. First, there's the segment where Professor Pierson (played by Orson Welles) is writing down his thoughts on the aftermath of the Martian invasion. At one point, he says, "I look down at my blackened hands, my torn shoes, my tattered clothes." While that part is heard in full here, in other versions, the line about the "blackened hands" remains, but the "torn shoes" and "tattered clothes" lines have been edited out. Second, there's Professor Pierson's closing narration about how everything is back to normal after the Martians are killed off by earth bacteria (just as they were in the H.G. Wells novel that the broadcast was based on). Among other things, he says, "Strange to see from my window the university spires dim and blue through an April haze." Unfortunately, while the line is heard here, in other recordings, it's left out completely! In fact, I've saved another video of "The War Of The Worlds" where the "university spires" reference is missing, but Carl Phillips's complete line about "someone or something" crawling out the Martian cylinder and Professor Pierson's unedited reference to his "blackened hands," "torn shoes," and "tattered clothes" both remain intact. Incidentally, I wasn't too pleased with the illustrations that accompanied this video. The people in these pictures look weird. For example, the folks dancing in the picture at the 4:22-4:49 time mark appear to be missing about half of their faces! During the part where the radio announcer is declaring to the listening audience that "those strange beings who landed in the Jersey farmlands tonight are the vanguard of an invading army from the Planet Mars" (25:29-25:47), the terrified faces of the people in the illustration being shown look distorted. For instance, on the face of the little boy, one eye seems slightly higher than the other. The faces of the kids in the picture shown as Professor Pierson says "Strange to watch children playing in the streets" (56:45-57:01) seem sort of deformed too.
