War of the Worlds Tv Series - The Advocacy

Montage of clips of the Advocacy from War of the Worlds (1998 - 1990) TV first series, upscalled to 1080p 60fps.
The average quality of this footage is due to a film to standard video transfer back in the day and even released as such on on DVD in this low quality format, it is sadly unlikely this will ever look any better than it does now.

I was about 5 when this came out, but I do remember it being on repeat during the early 90s. I recall very little of it, but I do remember enjoying the show, especially the intro music.

Season 1 was so good. I liked the fact that it didn't always have a happy ending. Great Sci Fi. Season 2 sucked ass. Thanks for posting.

That's what I loved about this series, the first season. The aliens did lose many battles but always remained to fight the long war. It made most of the efforts of protagonists look like small dents.

@@DanielAppleton-lr9eq Even as a kid, the only part that I found completely ridiculous was the worldwide amnesia of the 1953 invasion. So horrible that almost everyone has a hard time remembering. Seriously, humans throughout history have been heavily influenced by watershed moments from the Great Flood, the fall of the Roman Empire to the Black Death plagues. We got nursery rhymes and myths from those times as much Japan got anime after being nuked twice.

@@Zoloft77 THAT was my fly in the ointment, quite. The only things that the Second Wave got RIGHT was making clones of humans that they could control telepathically. The possess huma beings stuck out like zombies, for heavens sake.

@@Zoloft77 yeah agreed. this is the big flaw in this series. there's no way a worldwide amnesia would occur post-invasion. i think the series would've been fine without the amnesia bit. human awareness would make an alien resurrection even more secretive and insidious.

I used to watch episodes of this when I was a kid on sci-fi channel. Reruns of course. But I was obsessed with it for a while. It just such an interesting and different tank on the alien invasion, and it also stems from the fact that when I was younger I had watched the original 1953 film with my mom on VHS and thought it was the bomb. I still have many fond memories of the characters in this show. They were like a little family. I was devastated that Norton and iron horse were killed off in season 2, but in my mind that's not really canon. lol

Likewise! I was a huge fan of the first season, and was so excited when I saw the first ads for it, showing the alien hand bursting out the top of a steel drum. I also loved the 1953 movie from the time I was a kid, and thought the ships were so cool. I was very disappointed with season 2, though, and like you, I don't consider it canon (especially since when Frank Mancuso Jr. took over production, he admitted that he never watched any episodes of season 1! That should have been a prerequisite if you're taking over an existing show! The story I heard was he didn't really care, because he considered it competition to his other show, Friday the 13th: The Series, and he kind of wanted WOTW to get cancelled).

A channel called Mateo TV Stream has uploaded full episodes of both seasons. The first is watchable as long as you don't expect too much, the second isn't. Not Mateo's fault, I suspect. I'm currently watching Psi Factor on the same channel and the quality is fine.

When I first watched this back in 1988, I always thought that underneath their coolant suits they were still inhabiting the bodies of the terrorists they took over in episode one, but then I realized that they are in their alien forms under the suits, so it's kind of odd that they are still speaking with the voices of the people they took over in the first episode - especially since the Advocates took over the bodies of different humans in "To Heal the Leper".

Yeah its a bit of an odd one as they mention near the start that they are basically stuck in the bodies of the people they took over hence the need for the suits, yet by the end they were able to swap to others bodirs easily. Perhaps because of the suits? Its a shame really they never carried them on into the second season.

@@GreatHealer. Agreed, but I guess they had to give the actors jobs, right? :) And I agree about the second season - I was so disappointed. I never understood why they spontaneously changed the aliens who invaded Earth (now they were from Morthrai instead of Mor-tax), killed off 2 of the best characters in the first episode, and never followed up on the 3 million colonists on the way, never resolved Quinn's storyline, etc. Season 2 was just a disaster. I only bought season 1 on DVD and pretend it was cancelled after 1 season.

​@@GreatHealer.IIRC they said they were too weak to switch bodies due to the overheating of their bodies. Once they had the suits to regulate the temperature, they must have recovered at least enough to abandon those human shells. As for the voices, it must have been just a matter of keeping them easily recognizable.

I think in reality, they were speaking in their native alien language all along while in their biologically alien form, but for the sake of the audience it has to be converted into English. And if it's going to be heard in a human language you might as well use a human voice to depict that , and if you're going to use a human voice, you might as well use the actor that started out the role.

@@raheemhamilton8624he aliens (in season 1 any way ) use a caste System for governance so the lower classes (the soldiers and scientists) are probably taught to leave all the thinking to advocates .

@@raheemhamilton8624 Q if I recall was the aliens supreme commander during the invasion. I think he rebelled because he became more human due to a mutation or something when body snatching . The aliens in general were able leave their human forms at well tho for some reason the advocates kept there victims voices …well one of them did the other two voices changed between episodes .

@@dukeburger1697 the others were the same Advocates but the two male actors contact either ran out. So they went onto other projects. Q he said that the Advocates didn't brother to find out about Earth bacteria and how it would effect them. If I was one of the Aliens I would break away cause the Advocates are dumb start an invasion without finding out what the plant is about not smart.

So I wonder if this was because a lot of the time it was hard to distinguish who were the aliens in human form, I would assume also its was easier for the viewer to know too. Just a guess.

Back then some tv executives thought the audience wouldn't enjoy reading subtitles for most of the episode(s). Though considering how popular k-dramas and anime are now, that concern was unwarranted.

Other than Ilse Von Glatz the other two voice actors left at various points before the season ended. I remember as a kid getting confused who was who after while, especially w the inclusion of others wearing those suits like the commander. I liked that one had a gruff voice and the other sharper but there were several voice actor replacements so it did get confusing lol.

She had such a great voice as one of the advocacy, I think it's a pity the other voices changed so randomly with no explanation. Sadly, continuity was not the shows strong points.

I think she was keeped to help the viewers understand these are the same leaders from the beginning. The others changing voices weren't as jarring as they rarely weren't seen past the 2nd episode without the suits on.

This was one of the best sci series ever the other being v sad to say that 3 of the shows cast members have since passed away jarred Martin Isle von glatz and Richard kramer the last 2 names being alien advocates who along with another where infected by the aliens in episode 1 when they broke in to the alien compound even so great series watched it from start to finish it is now available on dvd but only in German don't know about a British version may have to shop around 😅😊

There is a UK DVD version although quite rare, managed to purchase a copy from eBay recently and it is of a slightly higher picture quality than other previous foreign releases.

sadly I see the Martian Invasion pulling humanity together far more effectively so the idea of inter tribe war fair would be limited to certain areas like the middle east. And having recovered all that martian tech world wide tech levels would be much higher.
