Well done on the Heavy. Never give them a chance. 6 torpedoes, 4 bombs, and several hits. She took a beating, but finally sank. You need to get your ships down to Darwin to repair and refit. If you have to rotate part back at a time.

YEAH!! 4 bomb hits on that CA! Great job! That made me smile, attacking from astern is great for the survival of your aircraft as a lot of the guns on those ships cant fire astern due to obstruction by the superstructure. I didnt consider that attacking from that low of an altitude helps in that way as well, so kudos on that. That strategy can work on destroyers as well. Unfortunately the torpedo aircraft seem to be more sacrificial lambs than anything in this game. From what Ive seen in my own game most of the time either damaging an important ship or sinking one of the ships in the Japanese task forces causes the AI to turn them around and run for home. O-19 doing some great work!

Wow - what a gauntlet situation! Your surface ships, aircraft and single submarine collectively scuppered a heavy cruiser and two destroyers. As for the rest - these will get clear but things are looking up.

Hmm, I think I know what my problem with the strategic AI is- it doesn't escalate. If you send a fleet to take an objective and it gets wiped by superior force, the obvious thing is to send out more next time you try to take that objective. The AI doesn't do that, it just sends the same composition of ships regardless if it encountered destroyers, cruisers, or battleships in the area. Now it would have worked if there were multiple fleets engaging multiple targets, but as 1v1 it just breaks apart.

I'm a bit shocked in a sense. In the vanilla game IJN ASW is usually a LOT more aggressive. In this mod, all those escorting DDs seem to keep having WTF! moments whenever a ship gets torpedoed.

I would love to see the kind of havok a modern sub could wreak during this time period and how quickly these battles would be over. Even a relatively old alfa class doing 50~knots how quickly could it tear through a convoy of warships. Anyway love the story telling in your videos, always look forward to the next one.

Exeter and Furutaka are evenly matched, both being Treaty Cruisers, with the tonnage limit under the imposed 10,000, by having only 6 8-inch guns. The Furutaka has a slight edge in having better and more torpedoes, I believe..

Googling Wikipedia provides some articles about O-19. The kill count listed shows six ships sunk, all merchants except for an auxiliary gunboat. One of the articles is from the U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings, and has a detailed account of how the O-19 grounded on Spratly Reef,(which the Chinese have now fortified like Tarawa, illegally) and how the USS Cod tried to pull her off, then gave up, and rescued the crew, of which movies were taken as it happened. They can be seen in attached articles. The Cod then fired a couple of torpedoes, and used the deck gun, but the wreck stayed there until the 1990s, when scrap salvagers attacked it. (A bronze propeller is a gold mine) The Dutch captain said that the damaged propellers “looked like cabbages” during the rescue. O-19 was the first sub to have a snorkel fitted. A sad end for it, seems like…

@@thisherehandleIdospout, Who’s forgetting the rescue of the crew? I used to build 1/700 ship dioramas with photoetch in acrylic oceans and always included figures. (Almost 1/8” tall) teeny-tiny. Most non-naval-informed people see a model in a museum and have no idea of the size of the sheer size of the ship without them. And War on the Sea has no human beings on board its ghost ships. Just mannikins sitting in the rear cockpit of torpedo and dive bombers, but the players pretend that they’re there, on the ships, like they’re twelve years old. I mentioned the crew rescue, because I was directing the first commenter to Google it, like I did, and focus on the Proceedings article that exhaustively emphasizes the human aspect of the O-18 grounding and rescue. You should look it up, too.

The new update to the mod has brought a brand new campaign for the Japanese side! Perhaps, you could try that after you claim victory over the Dutch East Indies (and do it again from the other side). It is a tad easier in my experience because of Japan having more of everything, but it’s certainly fun!

The semi armor pricing bombs only do 20mm of armor pen and Japanese heavy cruisers have more then 20mm of deck armor that's why the bombs don't do much damage.

Wolfpack.....as an ardent fan, I attend practically everything that you post and enjoy your channel immensely, but I have to comment how one sided War On the Sea seems to be. The Japanese AI is absolutely abysmal and ahistorical. I have watched you sink Japanese CA's & DD's right and left with every episode and wondered to myself when the IJN was going to wake up and become the deadly and decisive force that it was during the Java Campaign! What game setting is this thing on? Easy? The IJN DD's don't depth charge subs, Japanese counter battery fire is a joke, and there is no sense of Japanese naval superiority, air superiority or overall strategic aggression that was the hallmark of the Java Sea Campaign. I am still waiting for a real Task Force to show up and clean house of the Allied fleet in those narrow waters.

If you remember the beginning of the series, Wolfpack was being very hard pressed by the different forces that were roaming the Java sea, but he survived the onslaught. Now he has reached such a critical mass of enemy tonnage sunk that now the AI is not able to muster anything more (going back a few episodes you see that he basically sunk 80% to 90% of all CAs). I agree it is more than ahistorical, but he survived the relentless waves of the early campaign, and now he is just receiving the victor's spoils.
