To be fair they weren't bad ships, for 1918. Pretty old iron for 1942. Oddly enough the Clemson that made the biggest contibution to ww2 was probably HMS Campbeltown, as a floating bomb. It was used to blow up the Normandie dry docks in St Nazarire by ramming into the dock gates with 4.5 tons of explosives packed in her bows.

The Yugumo class in-game has a surface radar of +24km, plus the hidden stat boost that the IJN get for night engagements means that fighting a yugumo with old destroyers at night is sure to leave a mark on some of your ships.

Cool Beanies. Some of the PTs mounted a jury rigged 37 mm anti-tank gun on the bow. Kennedy had some such arrangement on the 109, I believe. Hard to secure due to recoil and plywood construction. I had a friend who went all the way to North Africa on a similar boat. On the trials out of New Orleans, they tried a depth charge, which backed screws out all over the boat.

Don't really think these MTB can traje on any armed ship without blowing up very very fast. ABDACOM mod make smaller/low tier ships way more fragile than vanilla Game in which magazine explosions are very rare

Should also point out that destroyer was originally short for TORPEDO BOAT DESTROYER. Destroyers were historically pretty good at killing MTBs.

Wolfpack - I have bought some Vosper 1 torpedo boats I have four of these. twin Vickers 303's maybe two Lewis MG's next to the bridge. And a top speed of + 30 knots -almost 40 - using Marine versions of the Rolls Royce Merlin engines. I think that it's the Mod that's got the AA armament slightly wrong. I've got the Vosper 2's as well. Slightly heavier AA armament but packing four torpedoes each. These come from a tabletop wargame called Cruel Seas I have four of the latter as well! The Vosper 2 is marginally faster as well. Just over 40 knots but a greater cruising range as well at 30 knots.

Sweet! been waiting for t-boat attck. I tried it with 5 during daytime. sank a cvl but lost all 5 zig zag laying smoke last one made it close enough to attk hit with 2 torps

One other thing. That Destroyer probably left that convoy to prevent the Destroyer force from adding further grief. Looks as if O-19 has a competitor in the Java Sea area. The Vospers are likely to be the second place in naval victories there!

The AI probably thought you must have stripped yourself bare of all these soldiers in Java … so it would be great to give you something to worry about instead of funnelling more troops to Singapore. Not a great execution though. And the torpedo attack planes were clear desperation… we have nothing, so we throw what we have.

I know the AI cheats with command points but it really feels like it also gets some insane accuracy magic. Your clemsons were just flinging rounds all over meanwhile the yugumo fires 6 times and gets a magazine hit 😢

There's a hidden stat boost in the game that gives the IJN a bonus on accuracy during nightfighting. That and Yugumi has a 24km range surface radar. EDIT: Sourced from another comment.

The fact that the IJN AI used seaplanes carrying torpedoes against MTBs showed how desperate they're becoming. And small wonder...while Japan's only lost one battleship, their cruiser force has been SAVAGED. As it stands right now, they have eleven light cruisers (one Tenryu, three Nagaras, Yubari, two Sendai, three Katoris (are they even in-game?), and Oyodo) and three heavy cruisers (Atago, Suzuya, and Tone) left. I'm rather surprised you haven't run into any Akizuki-class destroyers yet...it's July 1942 and the Akizukis began entering service in early June. And I wonder why the game hasn't committed more destroyers, as there's still quite a few Fubuki/Ayanami and Kagero-class ships remaining. In a future vid, could you go through the IJN ship classes and show us what all's left?
