They solved the map crowding problem, but little else that makes A&A a slow, tedious, unrealistic resource application game. "Triumph and Tragedy" far superior.

I think the units in the English Channel should have been able to land, they only get pinned if the German naval units outnumbered the Allied Naval units. Could be completely wrong about that though, and it looks like there was a naval battle of course.

@@wartable Good review, I have only played 3 games, 2 Russia vs Germany and one 3 player Europe Scenario so I have not experienced the trading aspect. As far as Africa went Italy got lucky and won Egypt in the first turn in our first game, and then proceeded to destroy Britain in the stress levels. Even though there was little resources, there was a lot of stress to apply. Britain did get lucky on hitting as an undefended territory, taking out three Italian troops in separate occasions! A little disappointed to hear that the game may get stale, but it makes sense as to why it would.

We also had difficulty understanding the Convoy Raid rules. It's the only part of the rules that are not clear, especially when they refer to the "Loss Limit" rule for strategic bombing. It doesn't make any sense to refer to SB for Convoy Raids because the limit is the number of colored transports for each resource. Quit confusing.

Good thoughts. The variety of this game will initially be the different scenarios and the optional rules in the back. They are real games and interesting in their own right. Love the Eastern Front. Very cat and mouse. The Europe scenario is great too. My current game was an attempt to dominate Asia and the Middle East. It was going well until I took my eye off the ball in Berlin and gave up force advantage. Hope is not quite lost. I can get it back I think.
@wartable4 жыл бұрын
It could get formulaic like all games but it should have good run. It is fun trying dominating areas and seeing if advantageous.

Looks really good just wondering whether it is balanced, it seems that the soviets aren't getting sandwiched every game and can hold off the Germans fairly well. Also how do china do? do they actually stay in the game. AA40 player so wanting to know if it is balanced knowing the balance issues with that game without house rules and bbr.
@wartable4 жыл бұрын
1) The Soviets can attack out on Turn 1 and do some damage. Alternatively, they can put a decent defense for, I would say, a good 4 turns. The Japanese can fairly easily take the Eastern provinces, acquiring a factory in the process. 2) The Chinese play a fairly signficiant role. They can punch down into Indo-China, help defend India, try for Peiping or even help the Soviets by heading West. 3) Is the game balanced? Only is as much as WW2 was. So far for us, it is a good challenge playing the Axis. I suspect War Room is less adaptable to house rules but who knows until there are many more games played. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@PMMagro4 жыл бұрын
All are new players to this game, once one learns then house really might come in handy. But so far probably tactics and priorities will change a lot. My IMPRESSION is airpower is to strong and attacking is generally better than defending (attacking from the sea or 1 vs 1 is no disdvantage at all, on the contrary if you win the area you gain morale and the enemy lose it but if you fail the defender get no morale benefit). It has many of the Axis & Allies features but the hidden movement and pinning is really neat and fun. Map and units are great looking.

Peter Magro it is a pretty great game so far. There might be some tweaking to be done

10 games in, very amazing! In my less than 10 game experience, which of course take it how you will based off player base, is the real key to beating Russia and England (when you can) is stressing them out. Which just means going where you can to get the easy hits. USA will be USA always, but if you can reduce Russia and England down to less orders and no income (losing the middle east England has very little oil). Its not going to be a great time for the Axis, but if you can end up making it a 3 on 1 (Italy has to be the one to take out a lot of England's territories, as they're the only ones that can stomach the counter-stress loss of losing them back), USA will only be able to do so much.
@wartable4 жыл бұрын
Yes, England typically incurs the most stress from what we have seen. We are getting more skilled as the Axis as time goes on.

In my book, far from having played 10 games though, airpower is way to strong. Especially vs China as she can not even build aniti-air units (even less so planes). It is jet age air power in a no terrain always clear weather daylight fighting settning with WW1 anti-air. All but China can midigate it somewhat. As bombed areas can not be repaired you can remove factories, ports and railways by one lucky bombrun early on. If you enemy has only one local factory (Japan in China, UK in India etc) just bomb it non stop. The new units are hit and PERMANENT damage to that one available factory... I like the garrisson rule where an empty area rolls dice tro risk some damage, should be the same vs air (and for the defender 2 dice like a port controlling the fought over area in general I think). China say gets 2 dice and if lucky they damage a plane or even bring one down. Yes it is max ONE plane shot down by garrisson/port/defender +2 dice. Its should be a risk bombing.
@wartable4 жыл бұрын
The no repair of facilities seemed strange at first, but now it just seems normal. China is limited,yes but all they really had was masses of troops and little else.

@@wartable I played yesterday. Won the game by killing the USSR airforce turn 1. USSR never could rebuild it and the Germans mashed Soviet with airpower every battle after that.
