@@casscrane6040 Well you definitly gonna lose some aim in exchange of fun and be at disadvantage with these settings. Some tips ? Don't really have one. Just massively use the flaps ( combat or landing ). Be able to make sharp turn is always useful and you will gain some accuraty as you slow down a bit. Maybe with some practice you'll get better Personally i don't play for the ratio or win a game and i'm not espescially good at it. I just like the controls of planes in game like GTA or Battlefield and with the touch of realism of War Thunders it's more natural and fun to me like this. :3

I've seen your original vid a little while ago, really helped me in this game on xbox. Watched all sorts of videos and couldn't figure out how people seem to be looking around with ease and still maneuver effectively. Max pitch + increasing mouse aim sensitivity worked wonders. Not really liking that December update though. Any time a plane fly past you hear this generic " close fly-by" sound .. and it's the same regardless of the aircraft. Not sure if it was this update or a late one but I get bad lag whenever I'm on someone's tail and closing in for the kill. It's so bad i often had to break off. Then there's the ridiculous match making happening now. Historical enemies are now allies. I'm assuming that they did this in order to have more matches available, but they need to mix it up more. I'm loving the Mig 3-15 (bk) now, but 99% of the time I get put up against a U.S and Japan tag-team. There are usually no heavy bombers for me to attack and everything can out maneuver me. Still fun, but prefer going up against proper enemies of the Russians.

Yes the lag and the mixed match making is really killing the experience this update. Sadly i feel this is going to be the new norm - they've added so many Nations and vehicles its the only way they can keep the match making going. Not to mention it promotes faster games which encourages more grinding and equals more premium players (premium money) for Gaijin. Another argument is they've moved to mixed to help Allies get more wins but from where i'm looking its still Axis VS Allies for the most part just Germany and Japan mixed so i'm not sure where they got that idea from. Besides since when has Gaijin ever cared about balance its always about the Premium currency and making money you just have to look deeper to get the full picture. Game is still fun but as you've already said you can no longer use you're planes strength in its proper capacity.

​ @Andros01 Georgiou I play on xbox , which controller wise, is similar to playstation. I hold down the left trigger ( L1) for playstation and use the right joystick to look around. I've played Il2: Birds of prey a lot on the xbox 360 and in that game you need to click the right stick down and move it around for freelook so this is mainly why I chose the right stick for this ... and holding down a trigger makes it easier than clicking a stick down.

So if you don’t want to spend hours transcribing; you use the PS4 game playing it on the PS5. Plus you must use the PS5 controller. @@DrkDeath5000 I've always played War Thunder on PS. Mainly because (before Covid) I've always worked from home, in a study, on a PC. Thus I go to the living room and play in front of a large screen. It was only at the beginning of the PS5 version did both versions crash often. That's stopped now. The PS5 is fast but, like I said, moving these control settings is taking ages. I'm sorry you might be leaving us for the PC (and understand that). I really enjoy the sprung, progressive nature of joysticks. And if (like fandangomobile) I went to PC I'd used one of those excellent HOTAS (Phlydaily has showcased some). The joystick produces a greater sensation of flight control than a mouse - it just must. Finally on the subject of you moving to PC - I think it's more difficult than it looks. I see a great deal of discussion in my Squadron about technical PC & Hardware problems. Naturally, I've never seen any of those on my PS.

@@nairb-ds1vn Its something i'm considering not set in stone or anything but lets just say i'm definately swaying towards PC. These last few updates have shown me one thing only and thats that console players will always be the last on their list of fixes. Its been like that for years and as far as i can see they dont intend to change anything anytime soon whether thats last gen or next gen we're always going to be at the bottom. Besides i'm kind of at a point where i've had it with the Gaijin & Sony technicalities. Not to mention the limitations of consoles and what you can and cant use (controllers, joysticks, head tracking, mods etc). And then there's the lack of actual sim games on console, seriously what happened to consoles, other than War Thunder we havent had anything decent in years. Meanwhile PC have multiple iterations of IL2, DCS, Microsoft Flight Sim and even games like Euro Truck Simulator 2 which have nothing to do with planes but i'd still love to play. Dont get me wrong i enjoy the simplicity of console just turn it on and you're away but if things have to get technical for a better gaming experience i feel it would be worth it in the longrun. Whether or not i give up my controller for War Thunder is another matter - I'm particulary interested in seeing what the Steam overlay can do, as far as customising a controller it looks like a powerful bit of software (similar to razer raiju but more customisable). Anyway this is all speculation at this point and honestly depends on Gaijin and where they go with PS5. Not to mention the actual cost of PC hardware has sky rocketed since Covid to the point where its out of my reach so things would need to go back to some level of norm before i could even consider PC.

hey I fixed your mappings. Mostly by switching the aim joysticks with the steering. I like to map R1 for minimum value thrust/engine on tanks, and R2 for maximum value, because then it feels a lot like old gta. I put primary fire on L1 and Secondary on L2 For planes, thrust R1/R2, Roll left joystick left-right, Pitch right joystick up-down, and yaw right joystick left-right, Square and Circle. I switched from mouse aiming to simplified because I want to aim by maneuvering, but I understand how you do it... I just don't like having a separate aim reticle that the plane tries to constantly correct to, and I prefer tying my vision to the plane's nose and not to a separate reticle.

There is a big difference in aiming sensitivity with the 1.3 multiplier on the x axis. Much slower than the 1.0 standard.

You get used to it after a while. The main reason I recommend going left stick for aiming is down to how the dpad is set up. You cant press up and down together or left and right together so if you inverted the sticks you would be losing out on two possible bindings. The way I have it set up currently you can switch between zoom and binoculars while aiming/moving and those extra bindings on X/triangle and square/circle are important if you plan to fit everything on the controller.

@@commanderknight9314 I would imagine so, its not so much the layout of the dpad thats the problem its more internal hardware related. The dpad itself is physically unable to register both up and down or left and right movements together only directional and horizontal presses are possible so 8-way opposed to the 12-way you get on the face buttons.

That soooooo much better on PS! All games and their settings are better on PS. I left this (X)Shitbox forever. 4year gameplay with Warthunder(and other games) on Xbox and now I see why PS much better is. Thanks for the video! Anyway, the advice can be used well on all consoles except Xbox. A lot of setting options are not available on Xbox that are available on other consoles. It doesn't matter now, I still really enjoyed Warthunder and always finished the matches on the podium, now I can see that the game will be much more enjoyable and comfortable with PS.

you did great with these controller settings, its still usable today. Hold max pitch to look around, but still controll the plane, is great way for defensive flying. Although i have one comment about max pitch. It is quite extreme maneuver so the plane is loosing speed when you hold max pitch. But with energy fighters you should not loose energy. With bad turners who rely on speed, max pitch might be even bad. What do you think about this after years of gameplay? I am new to WT.

You're not wrong i dont play so much anymore myself but used to tap L1 to minimise the energy loss and g locks on the pilot. Its a technique i used to use to drain other players of energy in the first few turning circles.

Hello there. Was bothered that i couldnt chat or deploy smoke on ps so i stumbled across your video. Wonderfull set of controlls. I tryed using it, tho the plane wobbles so much with it. Is there anything to increase stability or is it something you learn to control with time?

Glad to hear you found the controls helpful. The sensitivity you should generally learn with time i have it tweaked on the higher side for fast deflection shots but you may find it easier early on to lower the values while you learn. It won't fix the rudder wobble unfortunately that is just something built into the game and specific planes but lowering the sensitivity should eliminate most of the wobble when aiming.

I use the old V1 extreme rate DIY paddle kit which comes with 4 paddles at the back. I have my bottom 2 paddles bound to rudder (square and circle) and the additional top 2 paddles I use for flaps (dpad left and right).

Not really worth messing with PostFX these days but i seem to toggle between default and constrast mostly. Logarithm if you're playing on HDR otherwise everything at default seems to give the best results.

Thanks Death for all your tips and vids, on the way to becoming an ok console realistic pilot and tanker. Interesting to here your thoughts on next gen consoles and getting a pc. All I play really on Xbox now is war thunder and am getting fed up with laggy graphics, blocky graphics and purple after a while! The faster the planes the worse this handicap gets. Considering purchasing latest Xbox console (if u can find one) or a pc. Do u think it would be easy to transition accounts learn how to play game on pc? Interested in playing more sim too and assume if had pc, flight joystick would be the way to go. Thanks

I dont know what the deal is on Xbox but for PS4/PS5 Gaijin are allowing us to switch to full PC accounts. From what i understand all you're vehicles, ranks, etc get transferred over to a full PC account. I know a couple of the regulars on the WT forums have already transferred and have been playing full PC since late December now so i assume its all worked out for them. I expect the actual learning to play keyboard and mouse would take time though; i've been playing controller for 20 years give or take so it would be a particularly hard transition for me. I'm interested in seeing what PC specifically the Steam overlay can do for controllers since you can configure action sets and macro's, i feel like that might give us more options on a controller.

I really liked the vid, but I feel confused on some parts because you left out information about the multiple bindings which require the same exact button press. Like external view and flaps are both activated by D-Pad left and also you didn’t show us Xbox players how to bind the function to track enemies?? Like we could do that before, but now I can’t with this feature? And also, you have no buttons assigned for view in battle. How am I supposed to free look when I’m flying straight to check my surroundings? Can you please clarify?

Thanks! The multiple bindings are there to save to space on the controller and should not really be an issue. Functions like external view on the dpad left are for utility and saving you having to press multiple buttons in combat. For instance if you are switching over to virtual cockpit you can instantly go back to third person rather than cycling through all the views. As for the tracking i use Triangle (Y button on Xbox) but i rarely use it other than for situational awareness so you may find it more beneficial to not bind tracking on Xbox due to limited buttons (i think you guys have 6 buttons less than PS) and use the Y button for something else. Its completely up to you in the end my videos are really just there as a template. Finally for the view have a look at the common controls section in the video, i recommend using mouse camera (pointer camera) over the view in battle since it can all be set up on one button and automatically re-center's. I use the X button (A on xbox) but you can use all sorts of combinatations, some like to have it on their bumper buttons its all down to personal preference.

Spectator controls are bugged as far as i'm concerned. Never have been able to get them to work properly. Even the default controls dont allow you to look around so until Gaijin decides to fix them theres not a lot i or ayone can do unfortunately.

Top tier you can pretty run default controls. At the point you reach jets it's more a game of speed and who can lock a missile first. You really don't need anything beyond throttle control and missiles there. Anything else you're probably overcomplicating it. My controls are more suited to WW2 era up to tier 4 and maybe slightly above for early jets without missiles.

Mustn't have followed the steps correctly. Restore from the backup if you need to. This isn't really something you can set up quickly you need to have an understanding of how controls work hence advanced controls. Start with the basics first.

This is a great guide it helped me tons. I only have one thing I wish I could change and I'm wondering if anyone knows how... say I roll my plane upside down, it always rolls back automatically once I let go. Is there a way to make I just stay in that position and not correct?

I have yaw left and right for my bottom paddles and raise/lower flaps for my top paddles. Tanks I have binoculars and zoom, the top paddles are free to do what ever you want. Hope this helps.

Mouse isn't the greatest on PS4 they use a propriety driver which is janky at best and nothing like what you might be accustomed to with on say windows. It's still more precise than controller though and keyboard controls are easier to learn so if that's your thing go for it.
