It's even sadder when you realize that the original lyrics were: "Ahoy, ahoy, sweet Daughter of the Seas. Ahoy this child be mine. The Admiral's girl, his whole entire world, for as long as stars do shine." And it was a song Daelin sang to her regularly when she was a little girl -try not to cry -cry a lot

Ghosts of the past. He's the symbolic representation of the regret around her decision to side with the horde over her family. I'd guess he has been haunting her for a very long time, we as the players only seeing him now. He disappears when she finally accepts that she was wrong, that she should have sided with family, thus getting the proverbial ghost off of her back. I think this might be one of Blizzards best. These artistic stories are absolutely incredible, again and again

She wasn't wrong to stop a genocidal maniac, even if it was her own father. She is however feeling guild and regret for the decision. She wanted peace and made an ultimate sacrifice that has been forsaken by the horde so many times over, now she is seeing things from her father's perspective.

Or also literally could be his ghost guiding her to his ship, considering we know tidesages can do this and Jaina's understanding of magic (deeper than most mortal mages according to books)/ connection to tidesages (being Kul Tiran "royalty"); it could quite literally have been him, or an echo (as mages are capable of creating) of his memory that trailed her back to the ship.

The ferry-man was, at least as far as I can tell, a manifestation of her guilt taking the form of her deceased father, Daelin Proudmoore, whose death she was partly responsible for. The song depicts the events of Theramore back shortly after the Third War, where Admiral Daelin Proudmoore arrives on Kalimdor in search of his daughter. "When she did flee across the ocean deep, the admiral followed west. What else but sail to save a daughter's life, and pray she still drew breath? But there he found on the Western shores, Enemies 'on the rise!" Upon reaching the shores of Kalimdor he found, to his horror, the remnants of the Horde in the process of building a home for themselves in Kalimdor, and worse yet; his own daughter at peace with those savages that took the life of his eldest son along with countless human soldiers and civilians during the events of the First and Seconds Wars, the latter of which Admiral Daelin Proudmoore was one of the main Alliance leaders. “Can your blood atone for genocide, orc? Your Horde killed countless innocents with its rampage across Stormwind and Lordaeron. Do you really think you can just sweep all that away and cast aside your guilt so easily? No, your kind will never change, and I will never stop fighting you.” - Daelin to Thrall. Daelin decides to wage a war against the orcs, against his daughter's wishes and this eventually leads to his death as the Horde retaliates with the aid of Rexxar, invades Theramore and kills him. Jaina, confused and wrought with conflict decides to step aside - she doesn't help the Horde kill her father, but she doesn't try to save him either. "But when he faced those savage foes His daughter stood aside. Buried deep beneath the waves, Betrayed by family. To his nation, with his last breath, cried, "Beware the Daughter of the Sea."" It's been a long time since those events and Jaina has endured a lot of hardship at the hands of the Horde she decided to protect, against her own flesh and blood. She has changed and now harbours a hatred for the Horde that shines as bright as the one of her father, made even more clear by her; "I'm listening now... father." upon which the specter fades, which I think symbolises that she is on the path to redeem herself to her father and follow his convictions in fighting the Horde. In her absence, the people of Kul Tiras have made this sea-shanty in lament of her actions of their nation's pride, the Daughter of the Sea. Jaina.

If you look carefully while she's raising her father's ship, the hooded boatsman is not there - she's the only one in the boat. She's either imagining her daddy's spirit with her, or she's literally haunted by the spirits of her father and the men who fought and died at his side.

So this is an actual song that was datamined in BFA, it's a "folk" song the actual people of Kul'Tiras sing about Jaina. So I don't think all three of the "Warbringers" will have music, like a full on lyrical song, for them. But who knows, maybe Sylvanas' will since she's known for her voice? But that's just speculation. As for the hooded figure, it's all speculation. I believe it's all just a metaphor, of the haunting guilt of not being at her father's side and this whole journey in the sea is her trying to rectify that. That ship she rises from the bottom of the sea, is her father's ship, from when he went to look for Jaina in Kalimdor after the Third War.
@gerardlacroix60156 жыл бұрын
Guys at Blizzard posted on twitter a screenshot of lyrics of another song, in Quel'dorei language... So... With Sylvanas being, also, a known singer ( lament of the highborne ), it's a 50% chance of them all being songs. BTW : The ship is tangible, not a metaphor.

The ferryman was the apparition of her late father, Admiral Proudmore characterized with the anchor emblem. We interpret it as he leads Jaina to the site where his ship sank. The song is the shanty Kul Tirans created to warn of her great betrayal to the admiral of Theramore. But the ending makes it seem she will live up to the warnings. Raising her father's galley and single-handedly navigate it (possibly) to Kul Tiras. Will she subjugate her people since she will never win their forgiveness?
@publicguy16646 жыл бұрын
No, she just wants to wreck some horde. Maybe get forgiveness from her mother, but I don't believe she has an interest in ruling.

Definitely watch it again with the subtitles turned on. As a person with hearing loss, it's something I often do anyhow. I'd say the oarsman is her own manifestation of the guilt she has over what happened with her father. The raising of her father's ship and taking it as her own smacks as the beginning of her trying to right the wrongs she's committed. It's her own way of putting her guilt to rest over the death of her father. Between that guilt, and her changing opinion of the Horde, I'd say we're in for some interesting times ahead. :)

Today in the beta, I was playing in one of the Zandar quests (as Alliance) and there was a woman standing at the bow of the ferry boat "singing" this as she cast a spell to speed you from one area to another. (By singing, I mean it was text, not voice). The oarsmen mostly guided with their oars while she sped us along. Had I not watched this video, I would have completely missed it. She wore the same type of robe (in tatters as well) as Jaina's father in this video. He sat on the stern, though, but still... About Jaina...I think she had to find the anchor to give to her father so that he could guide her to the ship. One of those mortal things to pass on types of scenarios. I wonder how long he's haunted her...and if she has always been able to see the dead.

There is so much symbolism in this video it's insane. The first off the necklace's symbol is the symbol of Kul'tiras and Theramore. The sword in the ground was jaina's sword that she thrust into the ground after the bombing of theramore. The figure guiding the boat is a duel representation of the ferryman from Greek mythology notated by the payment given in return for transport through, in this case jaina's memories of the dead, and her acceptance of her father's point of view from warcraft 3 that there can never be peace between the horde and the alliance. The ship that she raised was her father's Galleon. And last but not least the actual song, is a sea shanty from Kul'tiras that starts off with her singing in reminiscences of her betrayal to her father and people the middle refrain with many voices is the perspective of the Kul'tirans and the last phrases are basically jaina adding in her own verse rephrasing the words "beware the daughter of the sea" from a warning to the people of Kul'tiras of her betrayal, into a warning to the horde stating that she's changed her mind about peace and she's coming to destroy them. I LOVE this video.

Her Ghost Dad was also a 'stand in' for Charon, the Greek myth guy, that takes you across the River Styx (the river of the dead), into the land of the dead - you have to pay him to do this -- notice Jaina pays her Ghost dad with the necklace before getting on his wee boat. So there is THAT on top of the whole Ghost Dad of Guilt thing. The water around Thereamore also has dead floating in it, very reminisant of the River of the Dead as well. And Ghost Dad uses a stick to push/drive the boat just like Charon always does.

The ferryman is a reference to Charon in Greek mythology. He ferried the souls of the dead across the river Styx to the land of the dead. I think it's symbolizing the memory/ghost of her father guiding her to a part of her she buried when she betrayed him. So this journey is both real and symbolic.

Jaina sees the ghost of her past. Of her past mistake in Warcraft 3 when she betrayed her father and her nation to protect the peace between the Horde and the Alliance in Kalimdor. This song is a Kul Tiras song that they made in memory of Jaina's betrayal. The fact that there is a song for Jaina makes sense because of the culture of the Kul Tiran but I don't think we will get that for Sylvanas and Azshara.

Actually by world of warcraft standards, there are many ways for ghost to be, wraiths, banshees and such. It doesn't necessarly have to be due to necromancy. But can be due to a traumatic experience that actually stopped the spirit from finding peace, which is why they are refered to as wraiths. His father was likely there and not a part of her own imagination, and so were the bodies and ships. And it was only after she came to terms with her causing the death of her father and realising that he was right, that he managed to find peace and disapear. Her being ready to follow in his steps as he always wished for. As of how the other ghost, bodies and ships are still around after so many years. You could likely compare that area to the dead marshes in the lord of the rings. Great reaction as always !

Every time I watch it I get chills! Home run, Blizz! Did anyone catch what the ghost skull said when it flew past Jaina? I thought it said ‘storm’ and then the storm kicked up, but not sure.

Holy crap, this makes me love Jaina even more :D. Alliance really gets some solid characters in this expansion. So excited to play through both factions stories!

Watching that the first time, I honestly couldn't help but to cry for her. She's had so many tragedies afflict her throughout her life. Is that what happened with Garrosh and theramore finally made her snap. Personally I think the Grim Reaper Father Figure was never really there , but was instead Her Imagination flared up by the guilt she now feels and honestly has never really Let go of that she didn't try harder to stop her father or at the very least attempt to save him from what was coming. And now after what happened with Garrosh's horde , she blames herself for the day she prevented her father from stopping the hordes from becoming what it did.

The ghostly figure was a manifestation of her guilt in form of her father. She feels geuilty because she let him die to bring peace just to get betrayed by the Horde years later.

The way I took it was the necklace that she removed from the sword at the beginning was a token. She payed the token to the ferryman to cross the "River of Styx." But that necklace meant so much more to her. It was a symbol of everything she had lost by trying to reach peace with the Horde. All of the blood that had been spilled. All of her people who had died. Her own father, and Theramore. She had tried everything she could think of, and still saw that the Alliance was making all the same mistakes she had in the past. So, she paid the ferryman (her father) the token (the necklace) to cross the River of Styx (the ocean) to go to the Underworld (home) and be judged for her past. Most likely to die (going to Hades) for her betrayal. But to either way, atone for her misdeeds.

I thought the veiled figure on the boat was more ferryman of Hades than grim reaper. Even the offer of payment (thought a necklace rather than a coin) was reminiscent of crossing the Styx.

Haunting and symbolic. I look bed how they portrayed Daelin as Charon who ferried the dead to their destination from Greek mythology. But Jaina is not dead, she is instead ferried through her decisions and her past which alienated her from her people and her family. When the ferry stops, she brings up a GIANT boat and tells her father she will more or less correct her past mistakes about the Horde. I can't help but feel that in her last verse, she is looking right at the current Warcheif and telling her: "I am coming for you...run."

They also did this with Legion, aka "Harbingers."

So original, but it was so perfect. Man I can't wait for the other two, even if there's no singing. But I want there to be singing.
