It's so dark, you might mistake it for black. last first It doesn't matter. The fact of the matter is that every Horde member within fifty feet of Sylvanas is now an accomplice in this atrocity. This is worse then goddamn Theramore, because at least most members of the Horde didn't know about the manabomb until it went off. Here, a not unnoticeable fraction the Horde assisted in their Warchief deciding to destroy a city they were supposed to capture on a whim. I love the Horde, but I need to say it. At the moment, the Horde are the villains, and it's gonna take a lot of puppy punting for the Alliance to bring things to morally grey. The Horde are the villains because this shows they learned NOTHING from Garrosh. Nathanos "Plague the shit out of it" Blightcaller is confused by Sylvanas's order. That's a new level of low.

Why Sylvanas' move was absolutely obvious and perfectly executed from a character standpoint: First of all, just in case some of you did not understand why exactly the pictures or "the scene" from Sylvanas' past were brought up. This is obviously not blizzard randomly putting up this scene just to give us something to look at. It is Sylvanas remembering HER own past while she is watching the Nightelf dying in front of her. Why? Because this Nightelf is in the very same position that Sylvanas herself was in, ages ago. Her land was infiltrated by an overwhelmingly strong force. As Sylvanas did, the Nightelf was trying to defend the innocent people but was defeted by the attackers and technically lost everything. Unlike Arthas though, Sylvanas originally wanted to conquer Teldrassil. It was not Sylvanas' original plan to destroy everything and kill everybody. So what lead her to this exreme decision? Sylvanas faced a life of cruelty and mercylessness. Arthas didn't even think about sparing Sylvanas' life or the life of all the innocent people. So she was enslaved and the only thing she could do was watching her people die, finally loosing every hope she had left. Since she had lost all hope, the only thing she could do was to fight for herself. She broke her chains and swore to kill Arthas. She was completely alone, all of her people were dead and she knew that hope would not get her anywhere. Now she is standing in front of this defeated Nightelf, who is in the exact same spot that she was in back then and the Elf dares to still have hope?! The moment when she lost all hope, was when she was staring at the corpses of the Elf and the child that she was trying to protect, lying on the dead ground. Teldrassil and the people living there symbolize hope for the Nightelfs, Sylvanas just cannot stand this delusional Nightelf, who thinks that everything will be fine in the end when life (and death) have shown Sylvanas that existance is only cruelty. So why should this Nightelf have the privilege of dying in peace while Sylvanas had to whitness how mercyless the world was to her and her people? To her, this would just be the greatest unfairness that she could ever imagine. In conclusion, I would argue that her actions where totally understandable from an emotional standpoint. I do not think that this move made Sylvanas worse as a character , in fact I think it made her even better. I am looking forward to a new Sylvanas, who has finally shown some emotions and probably turns away from this whole "emotionless and calculative" character perspective! Having a warchief that is kind of evil, is a good thing for a true member of the Horde and now that she is also emotionally involved, it is even better :) Thank you for reading!

Eglehnator While her actions are explainable, that does not excuse them. She seeks for people to understand her suffering to such an extreme that she will recreate the same pain that she felt, which is absurd, childish, and an action that reflects awfully on the Horde as a whole. In fact, everything she does is centred around some form of extreme. When she made plans to poison Garrosh, and her sister chose her child and husband over Sylvanas, her response to never trust or love anyone again. A warchief without a healthy range of emotions will bring chaos to her followers. She doesn’t seek the wellbeing of the Horde, she seeks to eliminate hope. Once the nightelves are dead, if she’s allowed to continue, she’ll go after the humans, then the dwarves, etc, and once everyone in the Alliance has been conquered, she’ll see the happy faces of Horde citizens and devour them, too. Her completely jaded existence will only hurt those who did not live to witness horror. Living in disharmony will always be better than unified agony. Sylvanas is calloused from a long and miserable life, and as a result of that she has become necrotic, seeking only to insight pain to invoke empathy. She’s not fit to be a warchief, she’s too damaged, too jaded. It’s not her fault, and she should receive support from those around her, but not support for her actions. That being said, I think her complex and deeply rooted character has been developed very nicely, and I’d like to see her be shown compassion and forgiveness by Tyrande, instead of just having her be killed off similarly to Garrosh.

The Horde that was born out of WC3 was committed to returning to the ideals of honor and respect for nature--something that they lost when the orcs threw in with the Legion. First Garrosh and now Sylvannas...the burning of Teldrassil did not sit well with me, and to watch Sylvannas burn the tree herself out of spite makes me seriously consider switching allegiances to the Alliance. The Tauren, who have been kindred spirits with the night elves in their reverence for nature, need to leave as well, or there needs to be a second civil war.

I disliked this as well from a story perspective. Sylvanas has been my favorite character since Warcraft 3. I love her lore and her story. Earlier in the years she did some unsavory things but I see where her morally gray aspect comes in there where she did have a hatred for Arthas and a dislike for the living after being tortured by him and turned int a Banshee but her ultimate goal was to always find a way to secure a future for her and her people, them being the Forsaken. I still love her to pieces but I REALLY dislike the direction they're taking Sylvanas in which they are turning her into this pure, evil character. I don't understand why and I wish it would stop lol.

I'm Alliance, but I still hope that they're not taking it this way either, though sadly, with a character like Sylvanas it does seem possible. I just don't want to see the Horde get yet another Warchief that goes off the deep end and needs to be put down. The Horde deserves a break and a long batch of good leaders, who don't get killed off in lame ways. Vol'jin getting taken out by trash mob was just insulting, especially considering the ending Varin got.

Imo they can't really kill Sylvanas because the Horde doesn't really have any good characters to become Warchief after her. The only one that comes to mind would be Saurfang but tbh, he's too boring to make a good Warchief after Sylvanas who is (or was, depending on how much they intend to fuck up her character) one of the most complex and beloved Characters in all of Warcraft. It would also be pretty disappointing to make a habit out of killing the Horde leader every expansion so that they can't get any character development when the Alliance just had theire first change in leadership ever. And let's be honest, Anduin is not gonna die in this expansion or next, so he will be allowed to grow as a character aswell as Varian could before him. I just think it would be kinda unfair to give the Horde such a beloved character as Warchief out of clear fanservice and then just not make anything out of it. With Sylvanas in power u have so many possibilites to tell interessting and complex stories and I hope they won't just take the easy way out and turn her completely evil and insane just to kill her off in the most flashy way possible.

My favorite part that everyone both focuses on but still overlooks is when Sylvanas smiles. Everyone see's the smile and thinks "oh she's so evil!" But that smile and what she says after carries alot of weight that I don't really see people talking about. "Awh, Don't grieve. You'll soon join your loved ones." There's alot of malice in that phrase in particular, but its also a genuine farewell. Because Delaryn WILL see her loved ones, but Sylvanas is barred from such a fate. Not trying to prove anything with this, but i thought it was an interesting little fact I should draw attention towards.

For me the cut scene gave me more insight in to what Sylvanas went through in her last moments before becoming a Banshee serving the lich king. It showed her losing all hope for her beloved Silvermoon. So when Delaryn talked of hope, Sylvanas made the decision to show her what it was like to lose all hope at the point of death. It would not surprise me to see Delaryn return in undeath either as a dark ranger under Sylvanas, or under the newer light undead. I have watched it now probably 6 times, and get chills every time I see it.

I personally, loved the cinematic; but hated the direction of the story. I was really hoping the Horde - specifically Sylvanas, wasn't the progenitor of the war. Blizzard said it's morally grey, and both sides with have dark sides that'll make both factions question themselves and the war but it seemed to go out the window when Sylvanas said *"BURN IT!"* ... Though yeah I'm a big Quel'Thalas elven fan, so seeing that was really cool, but yeah... For me it's *MIXED* feels. lol

When I stareted playing World of Warcraft I started with TBC. I played an Undead Mage and I was in love with Undercity. The way it was built, the area surrounding it, the atmosphere it had, everything. Then when I walked through the apothecarium and entered the long hallway I was simply speechless at the sight of Sylvanas, the first Elflike creature I had ever seen in the game to that point. At that moment she already had taken a special place in my head. Doing quests for her was the best and I was so proud with the thought of fighting in her army. Over the years I´ve played most races and classes the horde offered. Enjoying the game and it´s world. But deep within I always felt like I was back Home when I went back to Undercity and my true leader Sylvanas. I was losing my s*** when she got remodeled and all the new quests availible I could do for her only made me more loyal to her. And then at the end of Dreanor (or rather beginning of Legion) she became Warchief. What I wanna say with this, is that World of Warcraft for me wouldn´t be the same Game without her and I am so Hyped for BFA. I hope to be able to fight at Sylvanas side again! FOR THE HORDE!

The problem isn't that she decided to burn the tree (I would have used it for resources but if she wanted to deny the Alliance access to it that's okay too). The problem is that she only decided to burn the tree after being provoked by a literally who elf WHO WAS DYING. In the past, Sylvanas has done unscrupulous things for a good reason. What she did here was outright evil.

She realized that the Night Elves still had hope even after everything that has happened to them. From the get go, Sylvanas planned on breaking the Night Elves, she wanted to mount Malfurion's head on a pike for all to see. But she realized that even that wouldn't be enough, she had to hit them right at their beliefs and at their most vulnerable. Sylvanas is taking a note out of Sun Tzu and William Tecumseh Sherman, they will never fight again if they have nothing left to fight for. Burning Teldrassil was more than spiting a dying Night Elf, it was crushing the enemy's resistance without fighting unnecessarily. Why invade the tree and fight them directly when you can just take everything from them and leave. “Supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.”. -Sun Tzu Sylvanas made the correct choice here if she wants to win a war, but that doesn't mean it was the morally correct one. Sylvanas doesn't give a rat's ass about rules of engagement or ethics, she's there to win. No petty honor or lofty ideals will stop her from getting what she wants, and that may very well bite her in the ass as her closest confidants begin to develop a conscience. Just because she's so ruthless, doesn't mean everyone else is. Me? I serve the Dark Lady!

Aleksandros The issue isn't so much what she did, but what others didn't do. Why did Saurfang blindly follow her orders? It certainly wasn't out of fear -- he's a veteran of countless wars, and arguably stronger than Sylvanas. This whole trailer reeked of a poorly written attempt to make the Horde the antagonists and Alliance the protagonists. I wouldn't be surprised if she had tied a lady to train tracks afterwards while twirling her mustache, that is the kind of impression this left me with. She knew the tree was filled with nothing but innocents and chose to burn it anyway. What she did wasn't a complicated decision brought about by difficult circumstances, what she did was *evil.* Putress gassing everyone during Wrathgate levels of evil. She destroyed hope and her character in the process. I expected far more from Sylvanas and far more from Blizzard, and I'm glad that the video is currently being nuked with dislikes because they should have known better. Extremely disappointing.

The dead mother and child, second time I watched it I looked for more of the cinematography. And right after that scene, she turns dark with red eyes, after taking in the moment it's as if that was the catalyst that started her descent into darkness. Also the scene lingers on the mother and child for long enough for you to take in the fact that they are not just motionless, they are now empty shells (anyone who has seen a dead person knows what that looks like). I for one am also a huge fan of WC3 (basically everything Nixxiom said at the end is me too).

I for one love my new morally grey plaguebat mount. It comes with a hidden feature: when I idle in neutral hubs passing Alliance players will /spit on me. I'm saving a ton on my water bills already, because I never have to shower again! Seriously though? Blizzard said the burning of Teldrassil was going to be ambiguous. Both sides were going to wonder what their faction was really doing, they said. This *isn't* what they hyped it up to be. The animation and art were great. I loved it. But I'm afraid of how this is going to go story-wise, moving forward. We're either going to get a Garrosh 2.0 scenario, or some bs about how Sylvanas was controlled by old gods, or the other Horde leaders are going to ignore what happened and prove themselves to be total hypocrites, because "FOR DA HORDE1!"

If Blizzard wants to mature the narrative, they need to stop doing things in black and whites. Which IS what they've been doing. Jaina gets her feelings hurt as something that should have been brought up prior to the Purge finally bites her and runs off in the middle of a demon invasion, Sylvanas gets her feelings hurt and burns down a tree to spite a dying woman. One word that came to my mind after watching this: incredible. Everything about it was insanely well done, and I'm, against all meanings, really fine with Sylvanas burning down Teldrassil. There were many rumblings about whether Sylvanas would actually burn it down or if it would be burned down by someone/-thing else. At first, I sided with those who supported that theory since it made no sense to me that Sylvanas would, all of a sudden, be driven by hatred so much for no apparent reason , but from the very moment I saw Gallywix showing the Azerite to Sylvanas, I knew that it means nothing but trouble. Sageras sure hasn't rammed his sword into Azeroth to directly wound us, but rather to wound us unknowingly. And this cinematic shows the impacts of the greed after Azerite that has befallen Anduin and Sylvanas. Driven by hatred and greed, they'll inflict a gigantic war, wearing down both Alliance and Horde, and after we are at our ends, the real evil will show up.

to me all i really want to know is why the Void(masters of the Old Gods) are afraid of Sylvanas and see her as a threat. we saw how the void tried to corrupt the Sunwell with Alleria, we saw their warnings that "you have only delayed the inevitable" from the void. It's almost as if her attacking a major life source is a Huge problem to them. Not saying Sylvanas did this knowing it would interfere with them. She probably is legitimately crazy...but perhaps...that's why the Loa chose her specifically, knowing that she is crazy enough to do this kind of stuff. at least that's what I'm holding out for. as for my thoughts on doing this questline in general, i loved it. I know people that play as Druids, etc are upset about being forced to do this questline but doesn't that just prove how great this questline is in general though? the fact that you questioned yourself doing this, the fact that you were not okay with doing something like this...in a video game, shows the emotional investment you have with this world. If a story captures you in that way, imo it is good. Reminded me of the DK starting zone where Arthas forced the player to slaughter the Scarlet Crusade and the innocent civilians which is also another really good questline.

Killing non-combatants in one of the cruelest ways possible when the battle was already won and all because she was triggered by a dying Night Elf... Sorry, you have no leg to stand on here. Not only was this very wrong and evil it was also stupid as hell. Lore-wise this is a major problem for the Taurens, as well as the Orcs who value honour in combat. Then it's the fact that she burnt Teldrassil another thing that won't sit well with a number of those in the Horde, Taurens and druids among them. I have a hard time seeing why some Horde players are happy about this, because it seems like Blizzard is making the Horde the bad guys, again, which is not a good thing to be in most stories. Also, it seems like another one of the Warchiefs is being set on a path that will end with her being put down like a rabbid dog.

@David Bujna Actually, she did not do it for that one elf, that scene was more symbolic than anything. People are taking it too literally, same as with that Jaina clip. That general represents the entire NE race and she realised that NE will fight for the tree until they retake it. So, she decided to end that hope. I am not sure how people came to the conclusion that it was a teenager hissy fit of some kind...As you said, I think we should wait a bit, the story is still not over, people are just jumping to conclusion. And, as Havard also said, people like to romaticize characters a lot.
