The best thing of this series is that workers DO NOT COST FOOD and I can harvest as many gold mines as I like. I'll definitely do that if I ever try to make any campaign.

Well that's just Blizzard's formula of making their games competitive: you have to balance your resources everywhere and having limits everywhere forces you to engage early instead of building up a giant force. That's the way they keep matches short and the audience invested.

The upkeep system originally existed to prevent the game from chugging due to the number of units out at once.

True, but that was back in Starcraft 1 era, by the time Warcraft 3 came out(which was 2003), the computational capability has already advanced greatly. The CNC generals that you are playing was released 2003 as well. Granted there's still problems and being basically the only real 3D game at that time, War3 had to make some compromise. Still the system was kept for Starcraft 2 which didn't really needed the supply cap but kept for continuity and for E-sports. And when they decided to revitalize some old games like War3 with the new 1.29 patch(which still has international competitive games held now) or the Starcraft 1 remake, they kept the system as well, even though as custom content makers have shown that the system can be changed or basically negated now. That was part of their marketing with all the "bring the original experience with new textures ", but still I feel like you are supposed to make some quality changes to keep the game going and fix the issues back then.

I think at some point we managed to confuse the upkeep system and the supply cap altogether. But the idea behind it was basically the same all along.

Jay try not to be shy with reveals, they can be really usefull a lot of the time. When i play this campaign i always build like 12-24 arcane towers in my lumber area and reveal like mad.

Jay, if you starting to get the same feeling you got back in Subjection mission 5, save it. Next mission there won't be a Gardon or zealots. And there will be pretty tough guys attacking your base. Other than that there in not much difference from that one.

In my humble opinion, this one, the next two, and one further down the road where you get to fight the "slaves" (no spoilers) were the weakest missions of the campaign. This one because it's more of a chore than a challenge to clean the high ground, and because you basically can't intercept the enemy attacks. The next one because it's just so choked full of enemies, and you basically only have a minimal advantage over them(the special units) and to make that advantage work against one half of the map is a painful, and practically impossible against the other half. Not to mention your ally sends such piddly attacks out and does nothing to support you in any way, such as aiding you when you are attacked or drawing even one enemy attack to his well-defended base, he migh as well not exist. The mission after that mostly has a terraining issue, in my opinion. Both you and your enemy send so much shit at each other, and all of it goes *through that one damn tiny spot* which makes pushing out really, really agonizing, not to mention you will get your pathing really messed up by the base right on the other side. The last "bad" missions issue that you basically have to one-shot the main objective, or you will lose all your units. It's so massively, massivly defended and they will rebuild most of that defense every time... The other missions were really fun though. Not any less macro-y, for the most part, but all of them had their own unique, fun twist. Especially mission...7 I believe? The one were you get "those" guys as allies, and then the "other" guys. Still enjoying you slog through this all the same jay :)

I sort of liked Map 4. If someone struggles with not having a hero, then they're probably relying on them too much! On the other hand, it's important to know how the AI reacts by sending out it's internal defense force if you attack anything of it's faction, so I used this knowledge to time clearing out the first part of the city fairly effectively and safely.

It's not necessarily as much lacking a hero, it might be more the fact that the first undead base inside the city walls (teal, iirc) is basically defended by 2 heroes, one of which will always be rebuilt. Yes, one of them is guarding the gate but it's so damn annoying keeping your units outside of his aggro range unless you want to get double-teamed by him and teal. Orange can be fairly safely ignored by that point, It will still attack you, but they're so out of the way of your objective that once you destroy their outside buildings, you can circumvent them well enough. Teal though was what caused me the most frustration though, they and their army that stacks more than aptly against yours.

That was the worst mission so far in all the Arkain books. Boring

I like Arkain, but your gameplay looks so sloppy it is almost unbearable. Boxing your units every attack looks so troublesome that you lose units/heroes left and right because not everyone is attacking and you are too busy boxing units to notice your heroes dying. Not only that, but I see buildings hotkeys which are good, but not units/heroes and that would take your attention away from a fight that you would have seen or at least all your units would be fighting if you would just hotkey your units into groups with heroes and attack move rather than boxing random units to send them attacking in which after they are done just move somewhere else within the general area you clicked. I am very triggered by seeing sloppy control and unit management that compells me to comment this; time and time again this always happen when it shouldn't. It would at least make your life easier if you did hotkey units and heroes in multiple groups like e.g. 1 for heroes, 2 for melee, 3 for ranged, 4 for casters.

If you get triggered by something so trivial then you probably shouldn’t watch it. Look, I get that people want me to play differently, but these types of comments are insufferably arrogant. Tips and tricks are great, but I don't need a lecture about how disappointed you are. I've played well enough to succeed and occasionally have made improvements when truly necessary. But, I won't play differently on your behalf because you decided to watch me instead of playing this for yourself. In any case, these maps are grueling and you have to throw armies away over and over in many cases, so forgive me for not re-hotkeying every single time I have to rebuild units, that's just a waste of energy most of the time.
