Blizzard in their infinite wisdom forced all Warcraft 3 players to switch over to Refunded and enjoy all the brand new bugs, glitches, crashes, lag, frame drops, etc. At this point it's painfully clear Blizzard can't actually fix Refunded, so just delete it and bring back the old Warcraft 3. It worked so much better...

Reforged is by far the single greatest example of the old adage "If it ain't broken, don't fix it." There was literally nothing wrong with the designs of the classic models or graphics other than they were dated by about 20 years. All Blizz had to do for a successful remaster was just take what they had, and clean it up, put in some QOL updates to the GUI and hotkeys, and there you have it. If you wanted to go the extra mile, toss in improved cinematics and cutscenes for the campaigns, maybe even have some updates like adding a togglable auto-work feature for worker units so you can stop seeing that idle worker icon. It really wasn't supposed to be that difficult. For a studio with as many resources as Activision-Blizz has, this was literally like the equivalent of what was supposed to be putting a pebble in your pocket and strolling up a hill and turning it into a Sisyphean task. I'm fine with WoW inspired graphics being a feature to toggle between but they didn't even accomplish this feat. At this point, it's debatable if Blizz could hit the ground if it weren't for gravity.

Even though some might think that rant at the end might come off as cruel, what is honestly crueler is that we had to wait 5 years just to get to this stage. The Age of series got multiple solid releases of remakes by the time that we got WarCraft 3 Reforged to even resemble the original game, yet it still is plagued with issues that are inexcusable for a now 5 year old release. Half a decade is a long time for anyone, let alone a game, and anyone's patience will run thin after having to wait this long for all of this. I don't personally fault the current devs working on this, since so far they seem to have their hearts in the right place by addressing as many issues as they can, but it is obvious that Microsoft and Blizzard are doing the bare minimum still by not budgeting enough manpower and resources to get the game to a polished state. Time will tell if the devs will eventually be able to get the 2.0 Re-Reforged experience to a state where it can measure up to Age of Mythology Retold and Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition, but so far I am not convinced. Also, the ship has long since sailed with removing the Reforged graphics. There are tons of mods and players who use and like the graphics and the purists are being extremely unreasonable when trying to push the issue. Yes, I prefer the original art style, but the new one has merit too even if it doesn't suite the gameplay of an RTS by being too busy and having too saturated coloured environments especially. Chronicles of the Second War has proved that Reforged graphics can look pretty good when given enough care and playing to the strengths of the art. As a part of that project as a VA I would hate to see all of the team's years of hard work be put to waste. The current compromise is the best we can do with what we have and there is no good reason to alienate the modding community further by doing changes that only cater to competitive and Campaign purist players, who frankly are in the minority due to modding being easily the most popular aspect of WarCraft 3. Custom Games are keeping the game alive after all these years and biting the hand that feeds you won't do you any good. Just saying.

The visuals of Refudged are like the ones of Lion king live action remakes : in a vacuum they're not bad, but it's a lot of resources thrown away to create a style that doesn't fit at all what you're trying to accomplish. Overly detailed units aren't practical for RTS, regardless if you like them aesthetically.

It is so blatantly obvious where the problems lie when I click on a unit with a custom model and see that their portrait is some other unit, like a footman having a bandit's portrait. Desperately I reinstalled game onto my SSD drive and made sure to have >30gb free space and it worked. It was installed onto my other traditional drive. I had the same issues you have been having. There's also the problem with joining saved games (If they saves are not bugged ofc) u cant get invites with the new (old) ui they used, and if u try to join with the name of the room the join button is grayed out, or just joins the last room u had selected. This made playing one of the bests custom maps in the game (Sunken city) almost impossible for me and my friends, since we take our time and play on hard mode. But we cant save and join later, and random disconnects/desyncs are way too fucking common in a 5+h map.

13:17 I dont know if you tried to play 3v3 AT or 4v4 AT but its broken now. In 4v4 AT we tried to find a game for few days and didnt manage to find any. In 3v3 AT if you get lucky to find a game you will play against that team every time because there are not enough AT. So I dont think its "fixed".
