Even though I have stopped playing wow Arthas is what made me want to play the mmo. Before his expansion was even a thing I wanted to play the game and immerse myself in its lore to see if there were more like him. And when the expansion came out it was a driving force behind me playing the game. He was such a badass. even if I don't play anymore I still love his backstory and development.

This scene gives me goosebumps every time i see it... you watch the final hours of arthas after watching his downfall from noble paladin to merciless death knight... and finally, the Lich King himself. I love the whispers in this head as he walks up to the throne reminding him of how much of an asshole he is, Arthas knew what he did was wrong... but there was no turning back, his destiny was written the moment he took frostmourne and the only thing left to do is to claim his rightful place as the leader of the scourge, the very thing he sought to destroy... sorry Anakin... but Arthas' face-heel turn will always be better. Fucking love Warcraft 3's story... shame WOW ruined it.

Wahda fvck Not at all, in fact it ruined LK, in w3 he is a calculating and powerful leader, his schemes were so good he made the prince of Lordaeron who is a paladin, sworn to the light, to become a death knight, destroy his own kingdom, save him and then give him a host body which he had near full control of and Arrhas was fine with that, in WoW LK did not have a single strategic thought in his mind, most of the times you fight him and he runs away like a bitch saying " This is not over" and they made him look generally weaker, and when you defeat him yourself and Arthas, who razed not only Lordaeron but the high elves too and so much more before LK took over was like " Father, is it over?", thos type of a reaction doea not make sense at all, this concludes my rant.

Arthas never became the Lich King. The Blade burns the users soul. When he returned home, he was nothing more than an undead puppet. Arthas was dead, and a slave moved in his body. The Undead Orc Ner'zhul took the body of a long dead prince, that's all.

WoW ruined the lore, but I would happily accept a new Warcraft game that continues where Warcraft 3 left off and doesn't consider the WoW lore as canon, so it would be completely left out. I think that would be the right way to approach things. You can consider WoW's lore then as an uncanonical spin off.

But playing the devil's advocate here, given that those novels and comics and the manga have already sold considerable amounts already, it's less likely they will scrap the lore they put time there. Hopefully Warcraft 4 would not re-ruin the build up lore again, and even if let's say it starts at TBC or vanilla, they better make every important character get re-fleshed development and not receive the Kael treatment. In my honest opinion though, I wish BfA never happened.

@badri nath If you are talking about Sylvanas, she ALWAYS was like that.....honestly story/canon wise it makes no sense how she became leader of the Horde or was even ACCEPTED as part of the Horde in the first place! The only reason Sylvanas and Forsaken were put as part of the Horde was because in MMO format both Alliance and Horde players had to have equal amount of races available and while Sylvanas/Forsaken werent as mindless "evil" as Arthas/Lich King/Scourge, Sylvanas as banshee/Forsaken never was the kind of person who would bow to anyone. Let me remind you that in WOTLK she planned not only to take down Arthas, but also kill every other living thing, atleast from Alliance side....and yet she and her Forsaken were kept as part of the Horde like nothing happened.... So if Blizzard wrote one thing correctly over the recent years in WoW, its what/who Sylvanas really is. Other than that I agree 100% what TheSupremeSkills said, the ONLY way forward with Warcraft IV is to let it either retell or rewrite the story from Warcraft III: TFT onwards. I would accept better retelling of WoW's events or better yet, just scrap storyline of WoW entirely and make WoW and Warcraft IV two entirely seperate timelines/realities. The absolute WORST thing that Blizzard could do with Warcraft IV is to forget the fact that not everyone of us Warcraft fans have played WoW and all its fucking expansions and make the storyline such that only those who have played WoW and liked it storyline would understand it. The "good" news is that as long as WoW exists, it would be impossible for them to even do that.....if they would want to make Warcraft IV, as long as WoW exist, the two would have to have seperate storylines, or atleast Warcraft IV would have to retell the events of WoW in more expansive/better/detailed/deeper way. Otherwise I dont even see how WoW and Warcraft IV could co-exist.

The five years he lay up there on the throne, he had to wrestle with Ner'zhul, his past life and innocence, and himself. It was like a chess game to see who would assume total control over the new being they had collectively become. In the end, post-Frostmourne Arthas had won.

And its no suprise either...storytelling in MMO can NEVER work as well as in RTS game (or other game that is singleplayer)....thats because the mechanics of MMO simply prevent certain things in story of taking place, even though Blizzard did try to go around it with the "phasing system" they intorduced in WOTLK....while it certainly made certain aspects in storytelling possible, World of Warcraft will ALWAYS be limited in its freedom to tell story because its MMO where the world cant change/live with the story that much except between expansions. So for example destruction of Teldrassil/Darnassus and the whole change of landscapes/zones in Azeroth were only possible in bigger updates/expansions like Cataclysm and BfA.....so its those restrictions that MMO format sets what make certain that even if Blizzard had as good storywriters as it once had that creating as great story in WoW as in Warcraft RTS game would simply be impossible.
