The paladins fight with the light. The light is an energy that is given to those willing to serve it, it's the opposite of void which is dark energy that twists and bends the mind . But just like any of the other magics, the light is just a primal force that is neither good nor bad. This is why the scarlet crusade was still able to use the light even though they destroyed everything that wasn't human. Hoped this helped a little bit.

@Vile Disturbance I’m not religious. There is really a royal family (that DO believe in, and worship lucifer) that goes way back to biblical times. Humans are evil. And humans conspire. Just look at history. It doesn’t require you to be a nutcase to suspect this. It’s easily recognized in this world.
@aForkfulOfGold

@Vile Disturbance "An atheist believes in nothing." "Anyone who believes in anything at all cannot call themselves atheists." Incorrect. An atheist simply doesn't believe in the existence of deities. That's literally it, that is the all-encompassing definition of "atheist". Anything beyond that is you embellishing it in order to make an argument from bias.

And there's still over an hour more to this video! Granted, I read a book here and there in the last 15 years. Really, bravo

What people had hoped Reforged would be: Improve the graphics to take advantage of new technological advancements, re-imagine the campaign with in-game dynamic cut-scenes (like they promised and showcased with the Cull of Stratholme mission), improve the map editor to be even more flexible, and mostly to re-invigorate the general public's attention. The result was mostly the opposite, because they scaled back budget heavily for the remaster. The graphic improvements were outsourced to another company stationed in Asia (I think it was Malaysia) and their experience was mostly with mobile game platforms IIRC. Warcraft graphics has always been stylized to cover for the technical demand on hardware, but the Reforged graphics didn't have that same charm. They were high fidelity (individually they looked quite nice) but on the battlefield they look more bland and you could not distinguish some unit types with a quick glance. Worse off was the poor optimization that still to this day cuts a decent PC's performance from 100+ fps on the old graphics to 20-50 fps on Reforged graphics - which subsequently means that basically no one plays with the updated graphics. The campaign had basically no showing of those dynamic cut-scenes and the final cut-scene battle between Arthas and Illidan at the foot of Icecrown (the Frozen Throne) - which in the original had to be made as an in-game render due to time restrictions, now in Reforged it is one of the worst rated cut-scenes in the game because of how the models are made and animated. The map editor didn't see any changes but the TOS got hammered hard to fit in line with Blizzard's new standards - this is more a loss of goodwill than it truly is a detraction from the Reforged version - but it retroactively chained any previous maps under Blizzard's control. And with basically nothing improved and the outrage it had caused, the public was not really re-invigorated or reinvested in Warcraft 3 - save for trash talking it. Worst of it all was the contamination of the old client and the old battle.net. You couldn't opt-out of all of Reforged's changes. You may not have cared one bit about the online PVP or custom maps, but the new client have destroyed or cut-off a lot of support for some of these custom games. One simple little issue is the custom maps that was RPG-like and used a save/load system to keep your character between sessions. These were mostly based on the player's username (to avoid theft, duplication and whatnot) but with the removal of the old battle.net, you had to use your new BattleTag ID, which even for those who kept the same name ruined that functionality because they tacked on those 5 numbers on the end. The release of Reforged has mostly retracted value from Warcraft 3. In a way that is impressive, but is also the reason why they got/get so much flak for it. There was a inside-commentary from one of the old WC3 devs who got invited back on the project for Reforged but then experienced how the project was scaled back. I can only recommend you watch it if you're interested, released in late 2021, early 2022: (collab between Abelhawk & DesignerDave on YT) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZDZXq2lo61sZ9U

I believe that an often overlooked component of The Frozen Throne expansion are the upgrades to the map editor. If i recall corectly, before Frozen Throne there was no way to create custom abilities. You could only create custom units and give them the existing abilities. Also, there was no way to increase the hero level cap on a custom map. The amount of user generated content that exists for Frozen Throne would not have been possible with juat Reign of Chaos.

@Variabull 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's really cool to hear, thank you! PS. I'm no Warcraft Scholar, but it looks like Khadgar just drops the skull it in the last cutscene of Beyond the Dark Portal, and since the demons had control of Draenor/Outland they would have been able to just pick up the Skull and bring it with them for the invasion. As for the book, Archimonde says it's "the only remaining book of Medivh" so that sounds to me like there was more than one. Again, I'm not an official source, but that's the way it seems from the material I've been through.

I understand a little bit of your issue with how the Orcs are changed from how they are from the previous WarCraft games to how they are in WarCraft III. At the same time, I didn't really have a issue with the Orcs becoming the good guys, or with the idea that the surviving Orcs from WarCraft III suffered a crisis of faith and identity after being cut off from the Burning Legion. After the Orcs' defeat during Tides of Darkness, I think it makes sense for the Orcish Horde to change their direction when mindless demonic frenzy didn't help them. Ever since Thrall was introduced in the ill-fated unfinished adventure game, Lord of the Clans, the idea of an Orc slave becoming the Orcish equivalent of Spartacus and steering the surviving Orcs away from the mindless frenzy of the previous Horde was pretty compelling. Thrall's Orcs may not have the cool units or perks the Orcs had in WarCraft 1 and 2, but the Orcs are no less cool under Thrall's command. It's a shame the Undead Scourge didn't utilize undead versions of the Orcs' supernatural units, like the Necrolyte, the Warlock, the Death Knight, and the Ogre Mage. The Scourge does have Death Knight heroes, and Prince Arthas becomes a Death Knight, but the Scourge's Death Knights don't have the same cool abilities as the Orc Death Knight. Since Ner'zhul was once an Orc shaman before he became the Lich King, it would've been a perfect opportunity to utilize some classic evil Orc units from previous WarCraft games for the Scourge. It would've also been cool if the Scourge had made use of undead versions of the Orcs' Giant Turtles. In regards to the Orcs being corrupted by Demons who are just evil for the sake evil: I don't think the Orcs were corrupted. I think their past leaders willingly wanted to work with the Demons, and then found out later that they couldn't function without the Demons after they lost the Second War. Demons are demons, so I wouldn't expect them to have any motivation other than being bad. The closest thing I've seen to complex demons with motivations other than being bad is Marduk from Sacrifice. Marduk is a demon lord who destroys worlds, but he also plans out their destruction overtime with careful consideration before he destroys them. He rationalizes his destruction of worlds is due to the worlds being unworthy of surviving, and that a world is unworthy if it is a reflection of himself. Milton's Satan from Paradise Lost is another kind complex demon that I have yet to see replicated in video game form. I can understand the irritation with the story idea of a race only becoming bad because they were corrupted, since I myself find it more interesting to have villains become bad mainly through their own choices other than because something else made them so. Even Myth: The Fallen Lords and Legacy of Kain had instances where evil characters only became bad due to outside forces. While I think the Orcish Horde in WarCraft 1 and 2 were pretty bad and chose to be bad, I also think the Orcs had members among them who weren't all like that, and that it was inevitable for an Orc like Thrall to steer the Orcs away from the Tides of Darkness Orcs. Even though I love the final product of WarCraft III, I am curious as to what WarCraft III would've been like if it had been consistent with previous WarCraft games and didn't add so many contrived misunderstandings to the plot.

Your love for the original visuals of the game isn't purely nostolgic there is many technical reasons as to why, with Reforged. a more humble and faithful visual overhaul would help both the custom games community and curb problems like maintaining higher frames, visual clarity and distinction, less space, and faster loading. Something akin to heros of the storm i guess. that game is 17GB and look gorgeous compared to W3Reforged that's 27GB.

Mid-late 90s RTS games was my childhood. Though this one hit a bit late for me. It would be interesting to see you review Starcraft and Brood War in context of it being a technological and conceptual link between WC2 and 3. So much of what impressed you about WC3 was brought to that level of skillful implementation through Starcraft. In context of the time, WC3 (and Age of Mythology) was on the very tail end of the peak of RTS popularity. They were probably the most fully realized concepts of the 90s RTS style game genre.

One of the most remarkable things about Warcraft 3 is that each facet of the game is good enough to satisfy you. If you just want to play the campaign, that's good enough to pay the price tag and will leave you satisfied; and so is just skirmish (vs ai or players), and so is the competitive gaming, and so is modded maps. While sure, I think people are missing out if they skip out on any one of those things, I also don't think they should be upset that they didn't pursue them because there's plenty of content to enjoy without them. In short, yes you should check out online play (or even just join skirmishes as an obs!) and you should play modded maps, but you don't have to if you don't want; the campaign is basically a full and complete game by itself!

I'd assume someone clarified this but I just will too. Paladins in the Warcraft universe do not draw powers from gods, but instead pull power from their faith in something. Be that themselves, like your standard paladins in the world, or they have faith in something greater then themselves, like how draenei, primarily the light forged ones, have their faith in the Naru. The blood elves also have their faith in a Naru but it's a captured one, but that doesn't really matter, the thing that one's faith into doesn't nessicarily equivalate their faith, their power comes from their willingness and devotion to what they deem their "light", also I think they have something to do with drawing their faith from the power of the Sunwell too I believe. This is why when a paldin says, "Put your faith in The Light!" what they really are meaning is, to have the faith in yourself to achieve and go past this strife. This is why evil paladins can exist in the Warcraft universe, a paladin doesn't need to be of an honor bound code or be of good heart or be any type of good at all, a paladin just needs to posses the ability to believe and put their faith in a belief so much that they can break limits. This is why the Scarlet Crusade existed, their belief was that humans needed to have rule over everything, that is why paladins exist in an order that to most would consider bad. There's a lot of other things that could be said too, I just love how Warcraft paladins work.

Ha ha, I hope to upload a bit more frequently with some smaller projects. Now that I don't have this looming over my head anymore I'll have a lot more freedom to venture into new things.

That video and your channel in general have criminally low views/subs.. I feel sorry for you man, considering the amount of work you put into making videos, especially this one. Thank you for making those and keep up the great job, wish you tons of views and subs.

In my opinion, some of the imperfect aspects of the game include the sizing of units or pathing, your "armies"(small squads) are frustrating to manage at large scales and enclosed spaces. The camera is also too close, probably cause this was Blizzard's first 3D game. The camera also makes the unit management harder.

@Kobe Ryan I'm fairly sure there were other 3D RTS games of the same time that did this stuff better.

@Kobe Ryan doing well doesn't mean something is good, lol. Anyway, I'm just listing minor flaws, I'm not saying Warcraft is trash garbage?

I remembered playing as Arthas as he slowly descends into madness I was referring to it as "oh my god Am I going to be a bad guy here?" I really felt it was me as Arthas 🤣 and also when Sylvanas got rid of Lord Garethos I was like "mwahahahaha you deserve it fool" like I was Sylvanas herself. 🤣

Illidan became blind because sargarud currupted him with promises of power beyond that of any one else. so his lust for powet he betrayed his brother and tyrande. so he traded in his eyes for demon magic eyes. then thought he use this power to become a demi god of sorts. read the book well of eternity. such a good book. my fav is the time traveling duo. rhonin the red headed mage and broxigar the orc.

Wow I never knew the very original manual had the story explained. I have a foreign version of the game and it is a lot thinner.

1:30:45 Three years later, and Reforged is nearly as busted as it was at release, with only some maintenance & stability patches, that were discontinued in early 2021 because the team handling Reforged at Blizzard was disbanded and its members either relocated to other projects, or were laid off.

1:28 So it's not a remake, it's a remaster. That's what remakes do - modernize graphics without changing gameplay mechanics (aside some multiplayer balancing that's been going on, I guess). Guessing really never even touched multiplayer since neutral heroes added in TFT aren't mentioned in the "gameplay" part. Maybe it'd be understandable to miss them, except the campaign makes sure to let you play with 4 out of 5 added at launch. You thought Sylvanas or Chen with unique abilities were there just for the fun of it? 1:15:13 And no, the panda's name is random and is one from the pool of hero names for the Brewmaster neutral hero (since that's what he is).

I loved this dude! I especially love that you touched on the orcs being retconned in such a way that made them less interesting. I remember I wanted to play the ol' big bad orcs when the game first released, not these green native american knock offs... They are without a doubt the weakest part of the WC3 narrative for me, but I still love this game to bits. Thanks for the video!

I look back on the rexxar campaign with the most fondness as well, and I think it's because it is basically a short arpg experience. I don't usually play rts, W3 was an exception exactly because it was quirky in its gameplay scenarios rather than hardcore. Arpgs tho, their focus on stomping mobs is addictive

Also there're two more prologue missions that were cut, for some reason? You could just download them from the internet and play them before Reforged, but now you might not be able to. :/ EDIT: Oh nevermind, you mentioned them.
