How about you? 🤗 I'm curious about this. Do you think about body types when you're shopping, or look for specific shapes and angles that suit you? Or do you prefer to judge a piece by itself? And are you more into the 'fruit' types, or kibbe types, or something else? Let me know 👇👇

I don't follow any rules for my body shape, but I have learned what silhouettes, colors, and lengths I feel most confident in and now I am sticking to that! I feel better about my body than I have in years largely due to that!!

I tend to buy clothing for my body shape so I feel more confident and comfortable. I love comfortable clothes like tshirts and sweatshirts . If I’m going to dress up, I tend to wear tunic tops and pants mostly but I do own one longer black dress but it’s a loose fit.

I just learned about the Kibbe body types, I'm still not super sure what I am but definitely somewhere on the romantic spectrum/more yin. I'm with you, pear moving to hourglass shape. My waist is pretty small but my hips and shoulders are wide. I sometimes have issues where things won't fit my shoulders but fit everywhere else. I love fit and flare or wrap dresses because they accentuate my waist and show off my curves. And I agree, high waisted pants are definitely best. I'm nervous when the pandemic is over that a lot of my work wear won't fit anymore and I'll have to buy new stuff.

Wardrobe declutter is always a bit difficult for me, because I sew and knit most of my clothes myself. Some of these me-makes become almost like sentimental items. It's hard to let go of something I spent so much time on, even if it didn't end up fitting as well as I had hoped. Luckily, I can always take notes and remake items with better fit. It's an iterative learning process! 😊 The reason I started sewing was that I'm very much a pear 🍐 shape. So much so that I often need to make the skirt of a dress one or two sizes bigger than the bodice. I totally agree that certain cuts or design elements go better with certain body types, when it comes to ready-made clothes. But I also think that a well-fitting piece of clothing will look good on any type. It takes a bit more fitting of course, but you really don't need to wear only A-line skirts or cropped tops just because you're pear shape. I wish we could have a different clothing culture where people would buy fewer items but have them fitted just for them!

My body type is inverted triangle, which means that my shoulders are the widest part of my body. I make a point of buying clothes that work best on my body type, which is to balance the upper and lower body. So, for example, to wear a-line skirts to give the illusion of more volume at the hips, and v-necked tops to minimize the upper body.

I don't agree! Correcting the body looks most at the times comical, like wearing a costume. If you wear your own lines, it looks much more harmonious. Check out the channel "Merriam Style" she explaines by comparing a lot of pictures of celebrities, why that is so.

Your skin is 🔥🔥🔥 I don't care about body type and what is flattering or not. I actually don't like these notions because they show that society thinks there is an "ideal" body shape and it is toxic.
@SimpleHappyZen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Gabrielle! :) I think when it comes to body types, we can use it in different ways. I agre it's not the best thing to try to create the ideal body. It doesn't exist and we don't have to feel like we need to live up to that image. I'm personally choosing not to use the body type theory to 'hide my flaws', but only to accentuate my strengths. And then I find it very helpful :)

I had an interative process of decluttering my closet by category (pants, shirts etc..), because I had WAY too much. I am really embarrassed by the amount I decluttered (193! including tons of active wear). I gained quite some weight and my body changed a lot in the last 2 years so I can't wear most of my things anymore. I do plan on losing some weight again, but I will never be an XS again like in my early 20ies. So these things hat so finally go (now that I am almost 30). :-) These kinds of videos motivate me, so thank you for that.

I recently did this after I was so overwhelmed with my closet. Hundreds of items all tangled together in a mess. Finding that I was reaching for the same types and pieces of clothing everyday. I simply focused on what I like to wear, whats comfortable for me , what colors suit me, etc I donated 10 bags of clothing. I now own 5 pairs of leggings 1 pair of jeans 1 dressy trouser I dress 1 skirt 4 tank tops 4 sweaters 4 cardigans to wear over tanks and leggings 2 pairs of shorts 2 lounge pant and top sets 1 dressy blouse 1 jacket 1 coat 1 pair of sneakers 1 pair of sandals 1 pair of dressy sling backs 2 pairs of birkenstocks 1 pair of winter waterproof boots Life is so much easier now with less No huge decisions in the mornings No sifting through a sea of clothing

A couple of weeks ago, this video is what finally spurred me on to put all of my below-the-waist pants into the discard pile! Even after I realized that they did not work for my shape, I held onto them for some reason (and this is despite the fact that I was enjoying some great progress in my wardrobe de-cluttering--thanks to you and A Small Wardrobe). I feel like I've been struggling with fitting into jeans ever since I was a kid - and it's just not necessary anymore now that there are so many more options available. Not to be too dramatic, but saying goodbye to those pants in that one moment turned out to be a symbolic movement in a journey of self-acceptance! Thank you, your video cold not have come at a better time!

I've decluttered around half of my wardrobe in the last year and I still have so much and I feel nowhere near a minimalist wardrobe. I came across your videos recently and they've helped declutter clothes that I haven't worn in years that I was keeping for sentimental value - they've been donated and now someone else can make great memories and I'll forever cherish mine. I noticed we have the same pear body shape and similar colours (pale, blonde, blue eyes) and you seem to love colour which is not common to find on this platform. Most minimal wardrobes I've seen only have greys/beige which looks sad to me while you have blue (my favourite colour) and others. Would you consider doing a video of your current wardrobe with some brand recommendations? I'm particularly curious when it comes to jeans and knitwear (sweaters, cardigans).

Great video Vera. I am also pear shaped as you are. I prefer Tunic tops in block colours. Must not wear Red or Yellow. As my hair is white, prefer taupe shades, olive, burgundy, browns, burnt sienna shades. Since retiring I need far less clothing. Plus I also have loads of time to browse around for some really nice garments. This winter I have been on a pullover buying binge. Bought some beautiful ones, which will last for years. In Switzerland, we need clothes that are smart, elegant casual - that is for us pensioners. So grateful I no longer have to buy Corporate clothing. What a joy.

How does being a vegan influence your fabric choices for your wardrobe? Are there materials you avoid? Minimalist vloggers seem to embrace natural fibers such as silk and wool while avoiding petroleum-based products. I love the idea of natural fibers (except for the care involved in maintaining them) and wondered what you chose for your clothing fibers.
@SimpleHappyZen3 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara! :) I'm still working some things out in this regard, but as a vegan I do avoid all animal products. So no leather, wool, silk or any of that for me. Even recycled, (though ethically I don't have a problem with it if they use recycled materials) doesn't feel right for me. Like you, I also like natural fibres, but I don't really like to own clothing that's very high maintenance. So that's something I'm still working out. For example, I love Organic Basics' TENCEL line, very soft and smooth and easy to maintain.

Hi Gail! I also found Justine LaConte's videos to be quite helpful. Just basically did a KZbin search 'how to figure out your body type' and 'how to dress for your body type' etc. Also, I want to include that I don't take all the tips to heart without thinking about them first. For example, they would say to stay away from skinny jeans, however I think I look good in skinny jeans, so I think it's important to also stay true to yourself. I'm not trying to hide my curves so I'm perfectly fine with wearing them. However I also found some very helpful tips that really do work.

I really appreciate the brand 'Organic Basics' , however, sadly I e tried several of their pieces and they sure don't work for me. I have been so frustrated for several years because I just wanted a couple of oversized t- shirts for a pj top in the grey heathered color and navy. Because they haven't expanded their women's colors in t- shirts for at least three years..I ordered the me s and the fit really didn't work. Great quality and material but so sad they keep coming up with all of these 'specialized' materials and I can't get a basic grey or navy t- shirt in organic cotton...not so basic. Also, I just don't get the big heavy duty elastic band they have on their underwear. I guess it works for enough other people to keep it but it is so uncomfortable to me. I tried their bras too, with no padding and the seam down the middle of the cup, it doesn't work u dear my t- shirts and most shirts. I don't like a bra for just one type of top. I wish they worked for me because of their sustainability and ethics. I'm glad it works for others.

That's funny Vera, because I am also pear shaped and my daughter was the one who told me about high waisted pants and tops that fit at the waist or that go past the butt are more flattering on me so I had done the same thing and I got a few new things that I feel so much better in. I always tend to get things that are too big on me and actually make me look much bigger than I am. I'm much happier now! :)

I did something similar maybe a month ago. The "try on" pile in lieu of a "maybe" pile speeds up the decision making and forces you to confront how the clothes actually look on you.

Hi. Thoughtful video, have only just discovered dressing for your body type and not the size/etc a healthier way to live. Im a hour glass and had a similar experience with ill fitting clothes. Im in the middle of building a small wardrobe that bears this in mind. Btw Everlane is very good for shorts, jeans and linen.

I really enjoyed hearing your thought process on the items you're decluttering. I have to admit that before I was able to go back to work post quarantine, I did a bit too much shopping online. Not everything I bought was impulsive, but I realize now that this year overall has made me shift my focus on finding clothes that are actually comfortable for me to wear. TFS! 😊

You're very welcome Amy and I'm glad you found it helpful! For me, I stopped buying clothing items online, to try to make sure they always fit well, but still got it wrong sometimes lol
@amyli0923 жыл бұрын
@@SimpleHappyZen Lol I still prefer to shop in person for pants and shoes, but because my body type is an hourglass shape, I'm able to fit into most things I find online.

Hi Vera, I hope you're well. I love that dark blue tencil dress, it looks great with tights. I like to wear black leggings with dresses that length, too. My legs are covered with battle scars and not my best feature! Have a great week. x

If you really like the dress, but the problem is how it looks on the tights you can always crop it and make it into a blouse, repurpose it.That is what i do when I have an item of clothing i love but I don't like how it looks on me. PS:I enjoy your videos very much!

What a good bonus question at the end: would I buy this again now? I think if I would look at my wardrobe with that in mind, I would get rid of more clothes, because now I still try to work with some items, but don't really love them as much as I used to. Gonna go do this soon!
@SimpleHappyZen3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome, good luck!! :) To be honest, I use that question as an extra question, but it's not the main thing I base my decision on. I notice my enthusiasm seems to only last a short while after acquiring a new item. So if I based my decision on this question 100%, I'd keep decluttering my whole wardrobe haha. But it's good to ask it as a bonus
@MindOfMine.3 жыл бұрын
@@SimpleHappyZen Yes that's absolutely true. That's why I keep wearing most of the items anyway. But as a bonus it works quite well I think :)
