LOL...I have been so back and forth about Pete Alonso. I am also fed up really, if I am the Giants I tell this guy to stick it up where he knows it should be. Alonso has shown why he could care less about this team, realizing he is trying to get his payday, but the way he has gone about doing this really makes me see him in a new light. Sure, Alonso has done good things that deserved to be awarded and well the Mets have with a 7 year deal offered 2 years ago and another 70 million contract I believe this last month. I still believe that he will end up in New York even after Cohen said what he did, which I believe was a direct message to Alonso to stand down or else. As much as Alonso has no real leverage, I don't believe the Mets have much leverage either. Each need one another more than each would admit it. So, Yeah I don't like the way things are going, but in the end Pete is the Mets best option at 1B.

Pete: Fire Your Agent: Sign a 1 year contract and bet on yourself! I saw absolute frustration on the face of an owner, who was raked over the coals by an agent. It is not professional it is personal. and he is not going to bend over again for PEte. I get it now. I wish Pete would come back and bet on himself in a 1 year show me deal: But I think BOras' arrogance and inflexibility has worn out our owner. Not once did the Owner argue about the pay for Pete, but in the little details of the negotions. I'm a Pete guy....But, I feel the owners absolute frustration with Scott BOras. Pete, Fire him and negotiate with Cohen.

Jeff getting back to taking full swings (vs his half-swing-slap shots/9-iron chip shots), would be nice to see. Wouldn't that be awesome if he could re-create his 2022 season! He's fun to watch when he's tearing the cover off the ball. Also looking forward to seeing what Mauricio can do this yr. He looks smoother at second, vs third. If he could handle third like he does second, that would be entertaining; but third is more challenging than second, once the pivoting at second is mastered...

I'm with Steve Cohen on this one. I am also fed up with the negotiations and unrealistic demands from the Scott Boras and Alonzo camp. This comes from a Mets fan who cheered Pete ever since he came up through the farm system. Yes, he was our guy. Now he is still a free agent with every right to search for his destination. That being said, he had a chance to sign for his extension, had current offers from The Mets, and opted out of every one of them. It's not like The Mets haven't done anything to keep him. As a fan of Pete, he thinks he's better than what he is and he's not so young anymore. He also never came close to the production of his rookie season. This ping-pong match will cost him and his stupidity in listening to his agent. Scott Boras has made upwards of 40 million dollars from the Soto contract. That's not a small chunk of change. He got away with a record contract in sports history. Now he wants demands, his way only? sorry dude, piss off. Pete has the final say, I'm not blaming all this on Bor-ass. Pete has to come to reality.

@richardzucker998521 сағат бұрын
@@campbeja001 I have strong belief Pete is in decline. He cant handle the pressure. The Mets won in spite of him. Pete changed his approach to be more of a pull hitter & try to hit 500ft HRs. He lost the ability to hit oppo with power aside from the HR off Devin Williams. That doesnt cut it. A more situational hitter would do more with less. Todays fanfest I think put the nail in the coffin regarding fan sentiment. Either Pete takes whats offered or hes gone.

Pete burned the loyalty bridge the moment he signed Boras.

Once Steve took ownership, Boras saw a target opportunity. Boras is doing what a shark does when it smells blood in the water lol. One thing, Wardy: Cohen did not say that bringing Pete back on Boras’s terms would “not be beneficial for the team.” If the Mets didn’t think Pete would be “beneficial” for the team, they wouldn’t try to sign him. This isn’t about that. This is solely about the particulars of a 3 year contract, … in other words it’s about money. Which is what frustrates so many fans. I don’t think the Mets are better with Vientos at 1b and Baty at 3b. And I certainly don’t think the Mets are better with Torkelson at 1b.

@dashx110313 сағат бұрын
@@7taino Ok. But that doesn't really get to my point. If the Mets simply "don't want him," why have they offered him a 3 year contract? Beyond that, the natural question is: if they don't bring Pete back, what is the plan for '25? As a fan, do you really have confidence in Pete being replaced in the lineup with Torkelson or Baty? I mean ... I just don't see it. Unless the plan is to just punt '25 and ramp up for '26. I hope that isn't the plan.

But 2 things can be true here at the same time! Absolutely it’s night and day different with the owners! Soto is a perfect example of why! Absolutely agree with you! But it seems like this owner/GM combination only wants to spend money on people who are very good and very young and they don’t come around often! I would make the argument if Lindor became a free agent right now when he was 27 I don’t know if the Mets would give him a 10 year $341 million deal! They just wanted to make a splash! But I digress! There need to be more of a happy, medium! There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be in on Bregman! If we can get him for 4/120 we should be in on him. He makes us better! I’m sorry, but we’re not gonna be able to compete with the Dodgers at $300 million when they’re at over 380! Just think about this, if we match their payroll and got to 380! We could add two HUGE Bats and an ace level stater! Tell me we couldn’t compete with the Dodgers if we added two All-Star bats and an ace level starter to this rotation! We would be 100+ win team! So no doubt the Mets wanna spend it’s just they wanna spend for certain players that are very rare

Cohen handled it soo well. We are lucky to have an owner like him!

Cohen should be " fed up" with Stearns penny pinching. I never thought I would be disappointed in an off season that we get Jusn Soto, but I honestly am.

Because your not paying attention to what they are saying
@chalkbunt8114 сағат бұрын
@7taino , I'm paying attention, buddy. What they offered Pete was an insult. It's the oldest game in the book- make it appear like the other guy is being unreasonable while offering a deal you know he won't accept. The AAV they offered was only slightly above Nimmo. And Nimmo can't carry a team if he gets hot like Pete possibly can. Cohen should stop the BS about what he thinks is " fair" and give him market value for Pete's numbers, not based on how many teams aren't interested in Pete.
