What if it was a channeled ability? As long as the challenge is active, then it will start slowly draining energy per second until either you run out of energy or complete the objective. If you fail the objective before you run out of energy, you'll get a cursed decree, and if you get a high roll, you'll get a free rare decree.

Honestly, I think Koumei started as a Threads of Fate Warframe and they added the "luck"/gambling concept near the end - since it basically does nothing. I think her 4 was the main gimmick of her kit, especially since her animations are also threads/puppetmistress based.

Lavos also gets away with the cooldown system because he has ways of actively interacting with his cooldowns to reduce them. Koumei has none of that. The gambler frame needs to wait in order to gamble

Lavos' cooldowns are also shorter, so ideally he has you rotating his powers with minimal downtime instead of fiddling your thumbs while half your kit is on timeout. He rewards systems knowledge (status effects mechanics, faction damage vulnerabilities) and situational awareness (how to get the most out of each cast, especially with his 3's cooldown decrease and 4's long cooldown) without killing the game's pace while Koumei gets to rub her ass on the floor for 2 minutes to get another mediocre finisher decree and still have half a minute of a timer left over.

I never really thought about it until Trib brought it up, but Koumei really does lack in varied results for someone ported to be a gambler. If I have to speculate, Koumei being tepid could've been because someone in the dev team thought that a frame's performance being dictated entirely by luck means that if they really did add high risk effects to a frame, there's bound to be that one guy that is having the Authentic XCom Experience(tm) and futzing every last roll.... so they limited it to only the decree power as a compromise. I think a better compromise would've been to add jackpot/bust effects to every part of her kit at least... perhaps rolling snake-eyes on Bunraku would make the strings snap and cause the CC part of the power to end early, or something of the sort?

@@thegrouchization connect the kick while the enemy isnt doing any special move, using a ultra fast warframe, ive had it land before do "1" and then the enemy just wont fall 15 seconds is reasonable (as in i was considering the average time bo be 15-30, not the absolute fastest possible scenario and the slowest scenario) but still too long, where flying past your enemy due to the warframes extreme speed and precise aiming requirement is definitely common Plus its a multiplayer session, 4 seconds is enough for your team to delete every enemy in 30ft if thier decent Additionally, this is downright impossible against sentients, ill-advised against melee hungry infested/ technocytes Doesnt work at all on corpus due to their shieldgating unless you use a melee weapon with a multihit ground finisher Works well on grineer Extra hard but not impossible against murmur And also extra hard but not impossible against some deimos infested, but not many

Kinda wished her dice gimmick was like yahtzee. Certain combinations did certain things. Like two of a kind doubles the duration for her 1 and 4 but less status procs while three of a kind doubles the amount of status procs but halves the duration. @@mavolent6332 You missed the point of koumei being a beginner frame, you don't need to make a complex build with her because even if you put trash mods she works more or less the same; the missions to get decrees it helps new players more quickly in learning the movement mechanics of the game; her quest is very simple and quick to do; her passive helps new players that don't have all elemental mods basically a boost to their dmg; she's not very expensive to make, and she only needs 1 day if its the first time to make her.

I do like Koumei and she CAN preform pretty well, but I also can tell that she has so many fundamental issues. One of the changes I would live to see to her 2 that the community has floated around is that when you get triple 6's it resets the cooldown timer as well. It would make getting 6's feel so much better because its shortform missions you get to gamble for more decrees and in longform you aren't waiting forever just for a new one. Give us the the Warframe equivalent to the joke character that you dont know if you will be a god or abysmal with because RNG, meta be damned. Ona completely unrelated note from the footage used, man I miss Justice. I know she can't be brought back, but man how i wish they could just BS her back in. Peak design right there.

Koumei herself and her weapons are easily accessible to new players. The Fate dream game mode is quick and easy being a lvl 5-10 mission. The crafting materials needed are available at rank 0-1. Sure it might take a while to get everything, but that's not the priority of a new player unless they want to. The mods aren't accessible until they have access to steel path. So yes, Koumei is a frame that new players can access right off the bat.

Koumei is my favorite frame to release this year, but I do have to agree that she really doesn't work as a gambling frame. Most of the time I don't even notice or care what i've rolled and don't really build with the randomness in mind. She's a good user of topaz shards, for example, but when you put them on you're not thinking "I sure hope I roll well and get heat procs when I use this build", its practically guaranteed. She rolls her dice so often and with so little variance between outcomes that it comes back around to being consistent.

I feel like they have a lot of opportunities to make a “strings of fate” gambler character very funny. Like, say you low roll on bunraku, it still ccs them, but it throws them around so you can’t really hit them, while a high roll pulls the string taut and completely immobilizes them, like stasi levels of cc. For her 3, idk how to make it interesting, maybe a high roll could make charms drop energy, while a low roll breaks the charms and inflicts a bad luck status (lowered status ans crit chance). Her 2 is both good and bad, some tweaking has to be done, but it’s in kinda fina spot. Her 1 could be changed to have more coverage, low rolls have a single orb, but high rolls sends out a fan of orbs in all directions. Her 4 could also be given synergy with statuses, where any previous strings (1 or 4) will detonate in their respective status, and these statuses could have a sort of condition overload

Instead of cooldowns, they could have made it so Koumei's abilities have a shifting energy cost, and if you don't have enough energy, it'll take from your health instead. Roll really bad, and you may receive a severe wound, roll really well, and the ability may as well be a free cast. It would also be neat if they found a way to have her kit play heavily into min-maxed stats. Using the above example, you could have the chance to fully nullify Blind Rage's penalties, but you can also find it amplifying the pain. You could even have buffs and debuffs play into this. Stat for high duration and you may get a super beneficial buff for a long period of time, but you may also get stuck with a crippling debuff instead.

Some ideas for changes for her 3 and 4. Have 3 give damage vulnerability charms on a low roll(on 5-10 she take more damage), next step up is the charms as is( 11-15), next would be specific damage type immunity (similar to gauss's kinetic plating under the effect of redline but the full damage spectrum with 1 type per charm, 16-25), 26-30 would apply her current 3x6 effect, she also gets a new 3x6 effect to replace her old one, effects are applied to all allies in the mission, as well As companions and defense objectives. This would not only give some (hopefully fair) variation with its use and give it a perk that no other frame would have. 4 would give a variable damage vulnerability debuff which would be applied per status proc on the target, low rolls would give a small stacking damage reduction effect caped at 50%, and 3x6 would turn the additive damage vulnerability into a multiplier. This would play into her "strings of fate" motif and also give her an innate use for all of the status the tends to throw around, plus variation and a more unique jackpot. No notes on her 1 or 2 outside of what trib mentioned in the vid.

11:45 so, uh funny you picked that one. Now that we can get Decrees in the Sim for easy testing, we've discovered that a lot of Decrees, are...not actually that great. Vicious Barb's description is practically a lie. All it does is give +100% Critical Damage, additive with mods. That's it. It's worse than Vital Sense. Its description is only true for the Drifter, since they have no critical mods. This makes Koumei even worse than you think since her 2 has far lower highs than you thought.

Shattering Frost behaves identically to Secondary Shiver, which is secretly a CO-type effect, so it's sometimes Additive and sometimes Multiplicative. Twofold Torment has the same misleading description as Vicious Barb, it's just +100% Status Damage, additive with Mods. As I said, a lot of Decrees aren't actually that strong.

7:14 The most important parts about her dice are really that a. they are loaded and b. the chance for tripple sixes scales ever so slightly with ability strength. 10-130% will yield you about a 10% chance while anything higher will yield you a 15% chance for the jackpot. That‘s it; and don‘t ask me how it scales, nobody knows (yet).

Fantastic video. You make great points about Koumei's design. And I think one of the most damning criticisms that I can come up with is that, while playing her, I didn't care about her dice. I almost never looked at the rolls that I got because unless I got triple 6s on Koumei's 2, it didn't feel like I got anything of value out of them.

i think it would be a cool idea to give her an augment that made the odds more likely to be extremely high or extremely low then have it have the low rolls be really negative, it would keep the frame viable but give those who want the true gambling risk reward the option to do so. i like koumei as a frame, shes fun and pretty powerful but i do agree she lacks the risk a gambling frame should have. i understand why they wouldn't give her low rolls detrimental effects because that would make her less likely to be used and thus less people buying her, an augment would be perfect for her to get the high risk high reward, they could even call it weighted dice for funsies

The Koumei update misses with a lot of the new content things. The one thing that is peak though is the theme music for Koumei has part The Fragmented One theme, making it the farthest foreshadow in the game.

Concept I came up with during the outro, what if one ability was like Garuda 4 where you hold to channel, consuming energy constantly before releasing it, so it’s like you’re betting your energy on a massive high roll, and rolling low could temporarily cripple you in far more different ways than energy economy. This way, at the very least you can place your own bet, other than standard Warframe energy costs.

The problem is that Koumei either doesn’t roll 6s and you have no ability at all, or you roll 6s and get a rejected ability from 2015. It’s high risk for no reward. Koumei is strongest when you just don’t even waste the time to cast her abilities and just use her passive to melt enemies.

Imagine if she could roll all of her stats like, movement speed, velocity, EHP, and attack speed. You could get negatives and this would further enhancr with higher roles with triple sixes only giving you buffs and no drawbacks. With more strength you could enhance how hard your stats are impacted, but this would also strengthen the negatives.

Imo, she should've had something for ALL 6s, and also something for ALL 1s. More randomness inserted into the dice gimmick. Cast her 1 and get all 6s? Stings give multiple stacks of every status. All 1s? The Range and/or status duration are halved. Cast her 2 and get all 6s? Instant Rare Decree. All 1s? Instant Cursed Decree. Cast her 3 and get all 6s? I say make the invincibility that. Make two 6s grant additional charms that guaranteed block damage and heal. At base, damage should be partially blocked, but it's 100% guaranteed to happen on hit. All 1s? That should be it's current base use, of only sometimes blocking damage. Cast her 4 and get all 6s? 10 stacks of every status to affected targets. All 1s? Every enemy is capped at a single status, and 10 second cooldown. So rolling poorly could hurt fairly bad, but not necessarily game end you, while rolling well can make you a god for a few seconds.

Fixing Koumei to be fun. Her passive takes the number you roll and gives you an effect EVERY TIME. The higher the number the better the kind of effect, I’m imagining the lowest is like a crit fail and just outright kills you in some way and a crit success (if that’s possible cos I’ve never seen it) gives you an awesome effect like removing cooldowns for 150 seconds. Or rerolls. Her 1 needs to have like thresholds or something. The with the average being it’s current state and the upper and lower of that average state being the upper and lower of its current state. Lowest thresholds turns on friendly fire for your abilities highest thresholds I’m thinking it does like grouping and ticks while it’s out in an aura. Her two can stay the same I kinda like it but she should get dragon key levels of debuffs and told she can’t cancel them unless her passive has gained her a reroll which will be one of the only ways she can avoid that. Her three needs to be almost completely reworked as Trib said it’s basically diet Mesmer skin. Keep that as an effect but I want random effects ranging from the smeeta kavats drop rate bonus to suddenly being surrounded by a nullifier bubble for a few seconds. Finally her four can we agree that this was such a missed opportunity. Give her an exalted weapon whip blade called like strings of fate or something. Have it do it’s regular effect at a random chance decided by her dice roll and have it cash in on status effects I don’t care how but like do it. Whether that be by having her spread them via those who become puppets or by having the statuses applied explode and apply them in an area this is what the four should have always done.
