This is playing during some scenes in a particular quest where a character is doing some pretty awful things to another character and you're seeing it in first person from the perspective of the victim. At one point the bad guy does, in fact, mockingly call his victim "old friend".

This is a very interesting watch tbh. Because the lack of context really shines a light on how perfectly evocative of the mood of the quest this is from. Actually makes me feel all the things I kind of forgot to feel when I played the quest for the second time. The antagonist. You have their personality down to a tee. Which is crazy. I didn't really respect this song enough. But watching this actually makes me think this song is phenomenal. Artistically perfect. The reaction it got is blowing me away, because it seemed to have MORE of an effect without the context. This isn't a song to be "enthusiastic" about, but this reaction? This reaction makes me enthusiastic.

People often underestimate the power of music. It's a whole language made of feelings instead of sentences, sounds instead of words. With the right syntax, you can convey anything 😎.

Ah yes, Warframe. The game that starts off as being just a fun space ninja game, but is rapidly spinning out of control into a weird cosmic sci-fi horror with eldrich horrors and alternate dimensions for every possible way things could have turned out, but actually only two because of a deal you made with the cosmic horror who just deleted entire universes. Or at least that what it looked like?
@marcosdheleno Жыл бұрын
to be fair, from the start, warframe always had body horror and gore. we know from the start that the warframes arent just suits, we dont know what they are, but we understand in a fundamental level that they do not look "human", while also not crossing into "alien" territory either.
@IBAGGaming2 жыл бұрын
This is much closer to what I expected from a Warframe OST, the ambient ones like this don't really stand out much normally to me because I always think they're an addition to the gameplay, enhancing what's there and to stand out on their own is hard without the sum of it's parts. Though, still, it was good - definately a great piece, maybe not something I'd go out of my way to listen to reguilarly but makes me interested to see where it's used.

This song is used as ambience during The Sacrifice quest, themed largely around someone being forced by the bad guy to do irreparable harm to a person they love dearly, while being conscious the whole time. During the quest we see these memories from their eyes, reliving the traumatic experience once more. Smiles From Juran is a song that character had shared with their loved one previously, and during the quest represents coming to terms with the trauma, with our help as the players. One of the best quests in the game, looking forward to the next reaction.

In my DnD altered-setting there's a place called "Cradle of the Never-Born", located right below one of the fallen Netherese Cities. It's basically an lair for everything cursed, machines, constructs or objects that shouldn't exist but were created by the netherese, or doesn't even exist - but would if the empire hadn't fell. This is the Track for that place. I don't describe every experiment, the horrors of the place, aberrations, monsters or constructs there if my player doesn't ask for them, after all, this song already does it.

I love that even without context, you nailed the feelings and emotions it's conveying. I think your absolutely right too, it's not something to listen to on it's own, but it does it's job and makes you feel the things needed for the story at the time.

This is how I feel about a lot of Akira Yamaoka's music from the Silent Hill games. It's all wonderfully moody and atmospheric, but with the exception of the opening and ending themes, they are meant entirely for the contexts in which they originally appear. They're not good listening on their own, and they're not meant to be, so it makes it hard to evaluate them independently as pieces of music outside of that context.

Warframe as a game, the vast majority of its music is background atmosphere, and several of the tracks that are songs as music are songs of storytelling which are aided by the quests and events in the game. Not knowing anything about the various factions and circumstances in the game will make them way less impactful as a result. That being said it's a game with a very fun set of mechanics but which requires use of wiki, friends, or other outside resources, and as such it is not a game I would recommend to someone who wants to just experience it through. The time investment is far too great. It's much more of a "game you hop on to burn time with fun space wizard ninjas over and over" situation.

*Warframe spoilers* This song sets the tone for just how absolutely fucked up Ballas is behind his veneer of sympathy. Like, outwardly he acts like a kind benefactor, reassuring your family and sparing no expense on your behalf, and then he turns around and you hear his jeering scorn gurgling up inside your head musing about how he's going to make you kill your son and turn you into an instrument of war.

Im not sure I like this. (soundtrack) Gooood gooooood. Edit: the context. The 'hero' at this point is trapped in his own body, unable to control himself as the big bad sarcastically calls him 'old friend', and gloats about how the hero is about to watch himself murder his own son. So yeh context is very much key and makes this tune just so much more creepy. Its like slime sliding slowly down the spine.
