Hotline Miami is a very interesting game where you view it from a directly overhead position, and have to kill(in the most brutal, gory way the pixel style can convey) your way through stages full of mobsters and criminals. you yourself are one of any number of characters depending on the stage, and in basically every case yourself a horrific murderer, serial killer, cop, etc, slaughtering your way through a drug dealer den or sex trafficker hideout or whatever. nobody in hotline miami is a good person. the entire game is trying to figure out how to basically perfectly john wick or equilibrium your way through a level without getting hit because a single hit in 99% of cases will instantly kill you. if you've ever played SUPERHOT think of it like that, except that you're doing it in real time instead of slow motion.

also the music is, of course, utterly insane. just some of the most wild tracks both in good and bad ways sometimes. carpenter brut of course features in it but plenty of other amazing composers contributed to it. Probably my favorite Hotline Miami track is Escape From Midwitch Valley by Carpenter Brut, with its insane buildup into one of the most absurd rollercoaster rides down from the peak. but others like M.O.O.N. - Hydrogen, M.O.O.N. - Crystals, Knock - Knock, essentially anything contributed by Pertubator(Miami Disco, Electric Dreams, Roller Mobster and Le Perv as you experienced, Sexualizer, Remorse, etc), Scattle - Inner Animal, Jasper Byrne - Voyager, M.O.O.N. - Dust, Magna - Divide, Vestron Vultures - New Wave Hookers, Magic Sword - In The Face Of Evil, Mitch Murder - Frantic Aerobics, El Huervo - Rust, Magic Sword - The Way Home, Mega Drive - Slum Lord, Ross Fortune - Bad Ending, Mega Drive - Acid Spit, LipPi Sound - Abyss, Scattle - Roller Mobster Remix, and as I've made this list I realize I've put in over half of the first Hotline Miami's soundtrack and a good chunk of the second one's as well. truly two of the best game soundtracks of all time.

Regarding where the songs play: constantly throughout a level. It does not matter what happens in the level. The pounding EDM soundtrack and the rapid cycles of attempts, deaths, and respawns really create a trancelike vibe.

Hotline miami 2 has a mix of original and licensed songs. I believe most of the actual level themes, (roller mobster/le perv for ex) are licensed songs from various artists. Also fun fact: Roller Mobster has been featured in Hotline Miami 2, Hacknet, and probably other games as well : ) Hm 2's soundtrack is quite similar to Furi's but with a bit more variety in atmosphere due to the game's story.

Omg hotline Miami, you're gonna be hearing so many good songs from this franchise. The game is super hard so you're gonna be hearing these songs for a while, so it's a good thing each and every song is a banger

There's actually a concert you can see on youtube from the channel arte concert with the title "Carpenter Brut - Hellfest 2023 - ARTE Concert". It's pretty cool if you want to hear him perform live Otoh, if you want to play those games, they are like 10hours if one day you are looking for shorter games. it's pretty frenetic and really fun when you get into it

Carpenter Brut is still tied for my fave liveshow, such a good group. Even the songs that I view as sorta overplayed are still great and hit like a fucking truck! Hotline Miami is what popularized these the most, so even with them being licensed, it's still fitting for this imo (content id, willing anyway!)

Thought I'd also add, given some of the thoughts you have throughout, that I could see both games being something you'd decently be into, but I don't think they're too similar to anything you've played on stream so far. It's mechanically just a fairly simple top-down shooter, but most of its weight is entirely in its aesthetic, narrative, and addictiveness. Most of the game, and subsequently a good amount of the music, is soaking in inspiration from that 80's-Miami crime world you weren't to far from describing, as well as Giallo horror and hysteria of the era. I'm a little fuzzy, but the first game can definitely be beaten within 6 hours, and the second game is only a little longer than that. I think seeing a single trailer or level of gameplay out of context would be enough to tell if it's your speed or not, thankfully :)

From what i recall, Hotline Miami came out back in 2007 or 2008, which at the time, retrowave was pretty underground even on youtube, even though there were people composing for it. Hotline miami was to take place in the mid 1980s so they needed a soundtrack to fit the theme. They gathered some music composers and asked to either use some of their music, or had them make unqiue tracks for the game. Hotline miami was one the biggest indie games of that year. Next to FTL. Which also introduced a lot of new people to the new type of music and the people who make it.

The choice of Hotline Miami's music ranges from "Just go kill things and have a great time," to "Know what you're killing for." There are tracks from the first game like, "Miami Disco," by Perturbator that sound very upbeat and arcade-like as you would expect, but have a bit of tension about them. Even with "Le Perv," that ending section is so different than the rest of the music, like it's building up slowly as you fight your way out of hell about to reach the exit. These kinds of tracks going along with the action in the game and the themes and the background story. Emotion radiating from the synthesizer.

Long time hotline miami fan here, like you saw from the synopsis and some other comments, yes, hotline miami is a top down shooter; but it is HYPER violent with environmental storytelling, extreme gore, and punishing difficulty where you typically will always die in a single hit while having to fight overwhelming amounts of enemies and rip them to shreds. I won't mention the plot because I think it's better discovered yourself, but I think you'd like it if you can see yourself being thrown at challenging levels over and over and over until you get them perfect + also just stylistic 80s vibes
@laddersmitty
@laddersmitty 19 күн бұрын
i think you would like the vibes and style of hotline miami but whether you'll like the gameplay or not is gonna depend on if you like really difficult arcade style games. i will say, it's got a super meat boy thing going on where the respawn is so fast with no loading and you don't have to worry about lives or losing progress or anything.

Hey! At last my request is here! Hell yeah 🤟 And my two favorite songs from the entire franchise in one video! Happy X-mas indeed! Regarding your question if you would like Hotline Miami, I think you would LOVE it. They're filled with nothing but bangers and they are short, memorable experiences. As far as I know, the only original songs for the game were made by El Huervo: Daisuke, Crush, Turf, and Rust.

OH OH OH HOTLINE MIAMI OMG Probably one of the most iconic indie games. Its a very enjoyable series, both of the games are very short. They have a fast gameplay, great messages and themes, and very atractive both visually and in music. About the thing you talk about on the end, the first game is more like that, chiller and more "synth". The second game is much more heavy. Its different, in truth both games are very different in difficulty.

Most tracks in Hotline Miami 2 were chosen by devs from submissions by musicians. Le Perv existed before the game was announced while Roller Mobster could be written with game in mind, but the stuff Brut did at the time was already a perfect fit.

The music in this game was not composed for it specifically. Because the first game's success, the developer started getting requests from artists asking if their music could be featured in the sequel. They got something like 200 submissions and picked 50 of them. Actually, I remember Le Perv more from being used in Toonami promos. They used it to advertise an anime called Dimension W, which made it look awesome even though it turned out kind of lame. They used some Carpenter Brut to advertise the last season of Samurai Jack too, which was awesome.

the game's songs are probably gonna be a bit different because most of them are not composed by carpenter brut (definitely a mix), but they definitely have their style. i'd say most are pretty different from nightcrawler, as an example, cus that one is too passive. Otherwise about the gameplay ( no spoilers ): the only problem might be that it can be kinda hard or frustrating, even though restarting is very fast. Its also obviously fast paced. I liked the songs so much that i still play mods to find new unique ones.

hotline maimi is a action puzzle series masquerading as a beat em up :P (i say only half jokingly) You're basically a person tasked with murdering everyone in a location and everyone dies (nearly) instantly including yourself if you touch them. Lots of the gameplay is about figuring out how to kill absolutely everyone with as little resistance as possible as quickly as you can. Furi is a good comparison point actually. Furi is a little more forgiving on purpose. Hotline wants you to basically die repeat over and over and in like 10-20 second chunks If you liked furi, you'd be at home with hotline miami

Most HM tracks are not wholly original to the games. (Though HM1 was using some pretty deep cuts that I don't think were known at all until the game dropped.) Either way, this era of Carpenter Brut, collected in the TRILOGY album, was so good. The music videos that were collages of old movies full of blood and tits and cars. (Which, good thing you didn't react to the Le Perv video.) And then Turbo Killer had a killer unique video that still goes hard today. These guys took the French House sound and put that retro grindhouse horror vibe over it. And the result is epic. The Midnight is a great band too, but they fit into that more melancholic noir space. Some of their tracks could have fit into the Hotline Miami games potentially, but, not in the areas where Carpenter Brut does.
@Garfield.

Hotline Miami and it’s sequel is as much a gameplay celebration of the most difficult and intense mechanics of top down shooters, drowning in 80s aesthetic and ultraviolence as much as it is a condemnation of those very concepts. Though the soundtrack is made up by a variety of composers and artists, it’s all chosen specifically to be hypnotic with how the game plays. By combining that look with this soundtrack and a surprisingly In-depth story, it helps to force the player to ask questions about why we enjoy this type of violence in video games. I think my favorite way this is shown is how you have to imagine that the moment you kill the final enemy, all the music stops, the combo counter goes away and you’re left to walk back to your car looking at what you’ve done. Great game

This is kinda crazy because I've heard of the Hotline Miami games before, but no one ever told me anything about the music. I love music that has a retro vibe, especially when the artist(s) puts their own spin on it (Check out Signature by Jazz Emu - kzbin.infotwjYkn1iaMw). The music in this game has a heavy 80's or 90's sound, but much more hyped up or aggressive. I feel like I could chill out at the beach all day listening to this soundtrack, but it still works perfectly with the high-adrenaline action of the game. 15/10 - I'm in love.
