I think it's the drums and the distorted vocals. Drums have always been a good conveyor of urgency or purpose (hence why most marches put emphasis on drum beats), and the vocals being these throaty-distorted words that feel impossible to really pay attention to in the moment add an unsettling atmosphere to the encounter. Almost like your blood is pounding in your ears, and the vocals are the encroaching fear/dread as you fight with this void-born doppelganger before chasing after it in an attempt to kill it before it can flee.

This theme is the very epitome of intimidation, with the throat singing and the ethereal whisper-growling-singing (I dunno whatever else to call it). If there was to be a boss theme greater than Sephiroth, frankly this theme would be it, in my opinion. This has the tension and the fear factor and otherworldly aspect to achieve what it needed, whereas Sephiroth's theme was more brute force.

I find the grimoire rather disappointing. I was hoping for some advanced mechanic where a specific way of inputting shot inputs would let you create different kind of spell, idk like holding Fire 3x for a short duration would create a puddle of corrosive or whatever. Damn! I really love this ost! It really fit the vibe, especially when fighting with Fragmented One. At first, I really thought that it's just a regular boss fight with an epic theme. But as I knew about Fragmented One, I realized that I'm overconfident, and too naive. This boss humbled me and its ost creeps me out. Although I'm able to beat it solo, I still scared of it, and its theme. Especially in 0:30 when it play, it give me the vibe like "You really awake this demon, and there's no turning back, and there's no time to regret. The only way to pass this is to fight it until death.
