Warframe as a whole needs revising at this point in time

Crimson Knight well before these changes we had at least a bit of build diversity with 3 viable kind status, but now viral is so much better that anything else is just way behind it in strength

I don't think the problem with viral is just its strength, but rather that the other options are somewhat undertuned/buggy, and more importantly, don't really have good combinations. I mean, viral/heat's amazing, as is viral/slash... and while viral/radiation's kind of bad, it's still got some kind of weak synergy on AOE weapons... but, there's basically no synergy in the other elemental combinations whatsoever. Take corrosive, for example. It cuts the enemy's armor by 80% at 10 stacks. Which sounds wonderful, and wouldn't really be bad on its own, but consider its combo choices. Heat also cuts enemy armor by 50% after a few seconds any time you land a proc, so you're kind of doing the same thing twice if you combine corrosive and heat. And yet that the best choice in all situations, as heat also provides CC, just like blast and cold does, and unlike those it adds damage too! And you know what the thing about heat is? It can be combined with viral, which synergies with it very well, so why are you using corrosive? And there's a similar situation going on with gas, except it's actually worse. Gas is fully effected by armor, but you can't combine it with heat or corrosive except on a small handful of weapons, and so it's going to do really badly against any type of armor. And the combo's it does have are... electricity, which provides CC and a tiny amount of damage, cold, which provides CC and no damage, and magnetic, which only useful against shields, so it isn't functional at all unless you're facing the corpus. And the physical elements don't get any better. I mean, puncture is just kind of shit, let's be real, no one cares if the enemy that's currently getting focused is going to do less damage to them in the 0.1-2 seconds it takes most enemies to die. And while you can make that enemy who's doing less damage deal even less damage through cold's slows, or blast's inaccuracy.... all that does is make a worthless effect even better at doing nothing important. And other that that, puncture has no synergies, and actually weakens irradiated enemies, so they do an even smaller of damage to their allies than they normally would. Impact is a little better, as I think cold/impact works together to make super-staggers(Not in game, haven't checked).... but that's its only synergy, and since no one really needs CC on their weapons all that much, that's of minimal value. And of course, slash is great as always, but it only really synergizes with viral, thanks to the damage amp, and magnetic with its ability to quickly get rid of shields. Heat and corrosive kind of like it too, as it does some armor-ignoring damage before their armor shred kicks in, and I'm not sure but cold "might" make damage ticks last longer, but neither of those are really all that big of deal. So overall, the problem isn't (just) that viral is strong, but that it comboes so well with heat and slash, while corrosive and gas don't really work particularly well with anything.

Cliffwalker well I kinda agree mostly, but it is very important to keepin mind that as long as viral stays as it is no matter how much you buff other elements viral will still be better be the bonus it give is just so universal and so strong that all the other stufff just doesn’t matter. That being said, after viral gets balanced the other statuses would still need to be buffed a bit

Having access to a damage multiplier via a status proc will always outshine other options unless nerfed into the ground, like single digits, at that point it doesnt even matter.

That's not true. I mean huge nerfs, yes. But at the point it doesn't even matter? Not remotely true. DE just has to actually be slightly creative. So many people say damage or bust without thinking. The actual solution is damage conditionally and the overarching difficulty problem. Joey can say difficulty is a separate issue but the status problems directly correlate to difficulty, enemy design, mission design etc. You can't really make a good system while ignoring the multiple elephants in the room. Anyway simply make some conditions apply to damage. This is why the repeated accurate shots having a Sonar like effect for puncture status is theoretically a good idea, only theoretically because most enemies don't need that vulnerability to just die. But regardless its a good setup with good payoff. So Viral can be a damage multiplier it just needs a reasonable amount attached to a reasonable condition.

adressing the difficulty thing with armorscaling this video is not about: IMO making enemies killable with only specific warframe and weapon builds doesn't make the game harder. which is what the old armour did.

imo it would be ultra boring and tedious to have to change my builds before every mission. also, i do not really understand the discussion about 'the last reworks made the game so easy', because yes, maybe they made the game a tiny bit easier, BUT, talking about diversity, now we can at least use any melee we want, we do not need ultra strong rivens for a weapon to be viable AND we finally do not need to spam W+Ctrg+E all the time anymore. Before the updates the game was not harder, or more challenging, the meta was just narrowed down to a couple of weapons that all worked in the same way, melee stances did not matter at all. also primaries and secondaries feel a bit more effective now. And maybe build diversity was a bit better before the status changes, but in its current state, the game is still much better than it was before melee 3.0.

I think DE should get rid of faction specific damage bonuses. the statuses and IPS should be effective on different factins inherently by their mechanics. that allows players to come to logical conclusions, be more independent in their building.

That would make the game less intuitive. As it stands, damage type bonuses are mostly in there to lead you to think about what faction it might work best against.

Like a wise Zapph said, if they added a new scale or content (like Railjack) they'd scale everything differently (like Free-roam and missions). Metas are needed to measure where we're at (Top Powercreep) but we also need to can open up and make more builds and they need to STOP adding things and rework things the game already has. (I'm watching you, modular archwings...)

I also think the reason why they haven't tried changing status after the last Warframe Revisited update because they are afraid of the community being upset with them if they change viral

Which is the main issue both these videos try to address by trying to explain why it's sometimes necessary to let go of your stupidly overpowered toys to be able to explore the ones that make games more fun and overall interesting.

Could you check out AweBlade4's video on the status changes? I think he hit the nail on the head with it being a case-by-case basis, considering not every weapon's benefitting more from Viral than they would from Corrosive. When looking at the recent enemy types they've added to each Faction (i.e. Fortuna-Corpus, Empyrean-Grineer), their ramping up how quickly you can access higher-level enemies (i.e. Elite Sanctuary Onslaught, Arbitrations, Railjack and Lich missions) and speculating on what DE's "Corpus threat rising" tease could mean for Shieldgating, the likes of Shield drones and Corpus Robotics that are both Shielded and Armored, I'm thinking this is DE mainly just setting up a more solid foundation for introducing enemy levels higher than what we're used to from the star chart-- making them accessible in future content right out the gate, rather than requiring a more seasoned player replay a mission they've already replayed a bunch and wait in that same mission for about an hour before enemies begin to resemble a challenge to them again.

The problem with pushing the meta toward faction mods is that most weapons have 3 mod configuration slots but there are 4 (soon to be 5?) Factions. Sentients don't have a faction mod, but they are definitely a faction. I guess it would be good for DE monitization.

I don't think that Viral needs a nerf. Personally I like having one element that is just an All-rounder type of element that I can put on my favorite weapon and just go into missions. But I do believe in other elements being put up to strength with Viral but with maybe more specific circumstances they can be useful for.

Here's the real question though: If only one status type is best why even have status at all? It's like base damage/multishot mods - if they go on literally every weapon, why not just roll them into the weapon stats themselves to free us up to use other mods there?

@@JoeyZero I'm not saying I want viral to be the best, but I do want a status that can be thrown to get some damage boost when doing regular content Xandy said that warframe isn't really a game that benefits from making you rethink your build every time you go to a different mission in his video and I agree. I just want an element that is strong that I can put on my weapons, and then elements that are way stronger.

I disagree that the faction mods should become "mandatory". because, yes they would be technically different, but they would become just like serration that has to go on every gun just to get that damage multiplier. For me build diversity (apart from specific status and crit setups) should make a gun feel and play different. Even though warframe is litterally damage multiplier the game, that is not a reason to keep useless mods that are made mandatory in 90% of builds

Except for a few sortie conditions and the eidelons, build does not matter. You don’t need meta. At all. Not before. Not now. Build diversity means there are several way to skin a cat, which might matter if you needed strategy to complete a mission or want different ways to defeat an area. But you don’t. Missions exist to grind thru, not have fun in, in the game’s current state. Build diversity can be seen in BL2, where even up till BL3 dropped, new builds of weapons + skills dramatically changed game play in fun ways. Warframe itself has nothing in game that even approaches this. There is nothing fundamentally different from melting mobs with crit vs melting them with status, elemental or physical.

Old blast, just gib old blast. I don't care if every other status is removed even, give me back old blast. New blast does not make any sense and is an unnecessary nerf to the ground of something most people didn't even go out of their way to use. Except those like I, whom wanted Crowd Controll capabilities on their weapons.

It's so dumb to whine about that everything should be good on everything. There will always be something that is better than others when there are differences. Yes. It has a chance to not being fun when same setup of mods or weapons are the best but maybe it's not the setup that needs to change and it is the enemies that need to have other weaknesses so the setup needs to change dependent on the enemy.

Get rid of faction damage mods. They're useless bloat and would just lead to having to switch mids between almost every mission.
