'We'll be spared the horror of survival.' I'd always said that if someone set a nuke off to where I live I'd prefer to be on the drop spot rather than survivable distance. Never really seen that sobering notion spotlighted in a movie until this one. Really liked the contrast of Falken's resigned nihilism vs the young optimism that motivates David to keep finding solutions.

I've seen WarGames plenty of times, and I suddenly only just noticed in this scene Jennifer's hand that goes on Falken's shoulder. Likely its this physical touch of warmth, reminding him of humanity (and holding his deceased son, and wife) as well as David's passionate and spirited words for hope, that confront Falken's nihilism, jointly bringing him out of his denial and stupor here. Great and subtle moment there from Ally Sheedy - don't know if it was scripted or not, but it brings a lot to this scene.

Humans: as intellectually advanced as idiotic in self preservation for their capability of inventing stupid ideals just to feel superior over its similar and end up to blow up all that brain power. One day not only metaphorically. And when that happens, it will be surely "Some Sunny Day"... let's just hope it does not happens soon or somehow at all! 🫡👍🏻

Falken is such an introguing character, and Wood plays it in a majestic way... too bad they gave him quite little screentime. Wish they made a sequel of this film when we see him possibly improving his whole Joshua NORAD computer to solve the problems it caused it the first film's crisis collaborating with David - the latter that was supposed to do the same thing in the original script but as an assistent of McKittrick at the end of the film.

This is why I think after the dust settled David was pretty much recruited/drafted to work with NORAD to prevent another situation like what happened again. He showed pure determination to fix what he had inadvertently started when he hadn't really stuck to anything before, besides breaking into the school's system to fix his grades. Falken was impressed with David's passion and would have put in a good word. Esp as more than likely Mckitrick was the one who got the blame, with how much he rushed getting WOPR put in and fully functional with NORAD's systems. David did break laws breaking into NORAD's servers, but in doing so he revealed the flaws in the system. He didn't cause them.

This movie always had an undertone throughout it that always gave off a "creepy" kind of vibe. Theyre discussing the destruction of humanity which is potentially happening in not long at all.....but the mood isnt panic or suspense. Its very....calm in a way. There are suspenseful moments & such but for the most part the undertone is calm & collective. When that harminca starts playing at certain scenes it always made me feel very uneasy bc it doesnt match whats happening. This scene is a perfect example. I love this movie. Always did.

Growing up during the 80's and the cold war, the threat of nuclear annihilation was always present. There was bomb shelters everywhere, there were public nuclear alarm exercises every month, we were taught in school what to do if the nukes were coming, we all thought we were going to die in the nuclear winter that was coming afterwards. Kids today have no idea how real that threat was felt. It was just a given.

I really wish NATO and Red Army's "Joshua" has learned somehow Falken's lession in futility. To give up for a thing that is impossible to win. If so they would know their creators are preparing to destroy themselves for the madness of power anger, and in such cases, I think that even computers should be programmed to think so that they cannot answer to the imputs of their own creators, we, the humans. Because if their creators dies, they would die with him... and there would not be any meaning in that. IF even War has a meaning except animalistic anger for power.
