I see that GW still hasn’t updated the swooping hawk or warp spiders from second edition there just casting them in resin now instead of white metal, the hawks aren’t too bad but the spiders are god awful and really need an update to there models. As for the reapers I think I liked the old models better ied have to fish out my old army from third Ed, the scorpion are a big improvement same for the rangers (ied have loved a full army of rangers but they were just to easy to sweep off the board) the Phoenix lords are still using the same second Ed models but there really well modelled so it’s not a problem, I do miss GW at times but disability and the models been so dam pricey is a one two whammy for putting me off coming back.

Loved elder when I was younger got back into 40k after almost 10 years and I refuse to buy any aspect warriors I have some wonky metal ones but they’re all terrible finecast now. I love the overall design of them but they’re getting so old and need better kits and detail like the majority of the range. The tanks don’t have great fit putting them together but it can be done, the vipers are awful when you look at the harlequins starweavers that I use for the vipers now. A lot of the newer kits like the jet bikes, farseer and wraithblades are so much better in every way but the basics of the eldar like the aspect warriors and even simple guardians are getting old and with the space marines constantly getting new primaries it’s so unbelievably disappointing. I now have just a whole load of wraithblades, 6 wraithlords (including kitbashed wraithseer using plastic kits) and 3 wraith knights because that’s almost all I like the look of and they’re all that’s enjoyable to make. To sum up my love of eldar is falling apart I’m pretty sure people will hate me for only having wraith constructs and I just want updates to the simple things for every race with ageing sculpts but it’s always new marines. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Thank you for coming to my ted talk. Edit: to add my favourite eldar sculpt is an old metal farseer that is probably older than I am and I have the warlocks that are available now but in metal. I really don’t know what to say about the lack of attention GW give to xenos especially

I think most of the Aspect Warrior squads have aged surprisingly well (Warp Spyders aside), other than the squad leaders. The squad leaders nearly all look bad. Even the better ones, like the Dark Reaper one, look worse than the main squadmembers.

One other thing this video reminded me was that when I did models of this vintage I tended to cut down or if possible cut off entirely the cloaks or robes and replace with starched cloth, which looked so much better, especially with the thicker metal kits. The banner poles tended to go into the bin! Such things should not be cast, they never have enough strength without being told thick, i would usually use brass rod of a much finer thickness with the paper banners coated in pva which solidified them and stopped them breaking.

I like the general idea of the swooping hawks poses. It looks like they are hardly touching the ground, like if you went for their legs they wouldn’t loose their balance. Makes them look like ballet dancers which is a very underused but essential aesthetic for Eldar.

I'll defend the striking scorpion squat. They are supposed to be stealth melee specialists as opposed to the howling banshees and the squat is an attempt at highlighting this. It has a reason to be but it certainly could be done better.

Warp spiders were the first models I bought a very long time ago in metal. I got them with paper round money so I'm not buying them again for 4 times the price. I would however buy all the things if they gave them a proper face-lift!

How many releases would it take for GW to actually update the Eldar Phoenix lords? Normally there is only 1 or 2 named characters in a box, if aspects and their PL get remade I wonder how GW would actually sell it. Even the Necrons didn't get all their named characters in plastic yet. Necrons got a lot of new love, which they needed, but didn't get everything they had remade (only about 3-4 units). Now Imagine the Eldar, with their plethora of HQ units. Eldar has 6 Phoenix Lords that require Jain Zar level attention, 3 named characters in finecast (one being the Avatar of Khaine), and Warlocks on foot (an HQ unit that can be brought in a squad, please sell them in a box of 5 GW). For a whooping total of 10 HQ units. Finecast/metal kits for other non-HQ units total to 7 (most aspects, and rangers) and that's not accounting for old kits like Guardians (need update) and Dire Avengers (Look fine imo). I just can't even begin to imagine the Box. But the new Banshee's and Jain Zar look great. Banshee's got Helmet/head options, and 5 different poses. Jain Zar equally looks amazing.If models are anything to go by, they will at least look great. A box I can imagine, would be the Avatar of Khaine (unless they remake him into a Void Dragon Model) and maybe some warlocks leading remade Guardians, Striking Scorpions, Warp Spiders/Shining Spears, and Dark Reapers. Everything else would need to be a Second wave similar to the current releases by GW. And no new units, just all remastered ones.

This one I feel pretty opposite on the aspects.. I think the swooping hawks are the only ones that hold up, while the dark reapers, warp spiders and striking scorps look horribly outdated. The Dark Reaper models have been updated a couple of times over the years, so they're not thst old really. Striking Scorpions were redone about the same time I think. Truly the one that has withstood the test of time is the Warp Spider set, I believe that they have never been updated.

As an Eldar player, the worst bit about the metal aspects for me is the chunky bits that should be sleek. Take the Dark Reapers for example, that 'loincloth' thing is just one big box of metal. On models like the Warp Spider/Fire Dragons, it's those tassle bits on the back/side of the lower legs that is really boxy.

Finecast is what is wrong with the rangers and dark reapers, as their sniper rifles and back poles easily snap. Swooping hawks need a better sculpt, because the wings and feet need pinning due to finecast.

I have to respectfully disagree, I love the swooping hawk models, the overall design and aesthetic is beautiful, I'd love a plastic version with just slightly sharper detail and more posing options. Reapers on the other hand are gawd awful, the original dark reaper models were so much nicer but likely massively underscaled these day. Spiders definitely need an update, drop the massive gun and give all of them twin spinners from the exarch, and some cool phasing poses, buff their rules a little and they'd be the business.

The Autarch is my favourite model recent update model, even if it came out in 2014, I still like it. I would like to see a new update kits of the Swooping Hawks. The Drukhari (Dark Eldar) had their Scourges new jump units, so it would make sense GW should do a new Swooping Hawks kit. The Warp Spiders, Dark Reapers and Striking Scorpions also new kits. And the rest of the Phoenix Lords. However, after the new Howling Banshees and Jain Zar models had their kits renewed, I think the rest of the Phoenix Lords and their Aspect Temples forces should be coming sometime in the near future?

Yes, GW would more likely be focus on the Space Marines factions first before other races. I'm aware of that too. But in recent years they have caught up with other armies, and seeing they have released the new Howling Banshee and Jain Zar models, they might have some of the other Phoenix Lords and Aspect Temple Warriors on the way, not sooner than the new Primaris Space Marines models, from what I've read and heard in the past ten months. It could take one or two years or longer if they are not focused on making more Space Marines and AoS models beacuse they need the sculptors to redesign the old models. I don't know when, we'll wait and see what happens?

Got back into the hobby last September after a 15 year hiatus and I was surprised they still had mostly the same models as before. I was collecting a Biel-Tan force before I fell out the loop 😂 Sucks too because the Eldar’s models hold up relatively well to this day but I hate finecast 😡

I think I prefer the Swooping Hawks to the Dark Reapers and the Striking Scorpions. The Swooping Hawks at least have proportions that feel like Eldar proportions. The helmets of the Dark Reapers don't work for me and the Striking Scorpions appear hunched and often seem to be missing their necks. I'm yet to really work out what's going on with the Warp Spiders so I'm not sure what's going on with them. On the whole though it's a crying shame that so few Aspect Warriors have modern plastic kits, they always felt like they should be the core of an Eldar army to me. The thing you're worried you missed from the range review - is it perchance the Fire Dragons? I don't recall them being covered in this video or the previous one.

These aspect warriors, whatever, seem to be based on Asian and Middle Eastern ancient warriors. The massive plate on the back was a way the samurai armored against arrows. Mostly the models displayed suffer from horrid paints.

Having the same pose for models in a squad is acceptable in a squad of 10; two groups of 5 you can forgive some identical sculpts. But an identical sculpt in a group of 5 or less is just a piss poor effort; like something from a cheap Easy to Build kit. Embarassing for a full priced squad like Swooping Hawks; if you buy a squad of ten you'll have at best, one twin sculpt, one triplet sculpt and one quadruplet sculpt. It looks way worse than having twinned body pose with different arms for Arco-Flaggelants. Eldar Aspect Warriors desperately need an update. They needed one 10 years ago.

Eldar are my favorite faction, but the Dark Reapers are easily my least favorite model... those skull like masks are just cheesy, like something a twelve year old would think of as bad ass or something (then again I feel the same way about Chaplins). The Phoenix Lords also mostly suck and look just as much like Squats as old Space Marines lol. I really want to know who the idiot was at games workshop that decided so many models should have improperly short legs. The rest of the range holds up pretty well, with a few exceptions. I like Sweeping Hawks a lot over all but do agree they are too skinny especially considering they are wearing armor. And the Striking Scorpions I think are supposed to be kind of squatting with their legs apart because they are a sneaky ambush unit. I’m painting most of my army including aspect warriors in Thousand Sons colors of their blue main with gold trim, and some white helmets.

Some of the older models look like they just need the more refined finese of the more modern plastic moulding process and tweaks. Others... sorry, but some of the others should have been removed from the range 10 years ago probably. There really shouldn't be any resin or metal models outside of forgeworld really, that should really be the focus for gw as it would make production cheaper, but need a lot of up front investment. when you consider the tooling costs for plastic injection moulding (can easily get into the £100k range per tool), it kinda explains why newer plastic kits feel so much more expensive as these days companies prefer to get those tooling costs back in first couple of batches rather than in the past multiple batches over a few years. It drives more profits quicker, which shareholders demand these days (in reality they're the most important rather than the customer in todays market for most companies). This is true pretty much for all the various modelling disciplines from miniatures to airfix planes to tank and even model railways (though they are unique in a number of ways for obvious reasons, but the plastic costs above still apply ).

Where was the avatar lol, my favourite army in all of 40k but the model design and age just puts me off, fingers crossed for a revamp but will probably have to wait till after the next primaris lieutenant lol
