Warhammer 40k 3rd edition battle report. Tyranids vs Eldar

After crashing due to damage from a spore mine a wild rider chieftain is lost and in need of rescuing but that is not a problem when you got family..........yet the chieftain is being stalked from the shadows.
The Lictor sensing this creature was a leader of some sort, better to let it live and see if it leads to more bio-mass

15:40 The rules clearly state that a vehicle shoots all its weapons at the same target. In 3rd edition that is the norm. No unit could split fire between multiple targets unless otherwise stated. Some units had that ability, but those cases were very few and far between. Tau battlesuits for instance had to pay points for a special support system that took up one of their valuable weapon slots in order to have that privilege. Space Wolves long Fangs (devastator squad equivalent) had that rule, which was OP.

Loving the premise of this mission with the hidden wounded units! It's great watching you two just get on with it as well, agreeing rules on the fly depending on what makes sense and fairness. It's a good vibe!

The narrative of this battle is exactly the sort of thing that makes 40k battles much more memorable. The idea of the Eldar nobly sacrificing themselves to save their wounded chieftan makes something that might otherwise be considered a "cheesy" tactic to win the battle feel so much more epic. (Not that I'm objecting to be clear - that's just playing to win the game by the rules of that game)

31:20 I believe the rulebook says enemy models block line of sight, not units. This was confirmed at least in the first chapter approved Q&A. So you can draw line of sight between the models of an enemy unit.

back in the day I had a jetbike army they never won in third edition but in 4th they were cheeper and that made the difference

IIRC, in 3rd, everything had to shoot the same target unless they had a specific rule that said otherwise. I think Long Fangs had a rule like that, as did Super-Heavies. Not much else, though.

A couple of other rare exceptions were Tau vehicles and battlesuits that could be upgraded to divide fire. The Necron monolith also hit everything in range with its smaller guns as well.

Vehicles in the basic game DO have to shoot all their weapons at the same target, exception the Land Raider machine spirit allows it to shoot one weapon at a separate target at BS2, other forgeworld vehicles may have similar rules via Imperial Armour books.

3rd edition was my first encounter with table-top gaming. In my opinion, 3rd edition 40k and 6th WFB were when the hobby was at its best. The models were good without being the overly detailed display pieces that they are today. It was expensive, but not prohibitable, and as the internet was still a new thing, the game was still very much "paper based". However, for me, the best aspect of the game was that it was at that point far from being main-stream. There was no intrusion of politics, and the hobby was the realm of people who just wanted to enjoy a game and have fun. Good times, but long gone now :(
