I really do love the tau empire as the "friendly faction" I remember when I started it was 4 turning to 5 edition. What really got me was the theme of the faction. At the time I saw them and thought that's the covenant from halo series. My 1st paint scheme was to make the vehicles and tau suit painted up like halos with a lot of purples and blues they looked awful and still love them.

2000- 2012 when sg was killed off and power was consolidated fully . 2015 was the nails in coffin. Was when they handed over control of the writing to matt and everything got extremely silly and it lost its grimdark. Luckily at least we still get some novels and video games in the proper setting instead of current story which is horrible

I kove that the tau assumes that they can just go talk to the emperor like he's just the head ethereal because what else could he be? It's a very telling assumption that this tau can't see something being grander or more conplex than tau society and sophistication

I love these short stories they're old and impossible to find if you don't own the codex's yourself, same like the stories that were spread over multiple White Dwarf magazines even-tough some are retconned they are an awesome read

I think it was an intimidation tactic. Show the Tau what the imperium has in a “diplomatic” way. Unfortunately for the imperium a space marine is far less impressive when you’ve seen a crisis suit

@sturm9087 I was thinking more about the whole psychoindoctrination to hate xenos, causing a fight while you're very, very, outnumbered. Imperial "diplomacy" is best demonstrated with an eversor anyway.. 😄
