Coldest take ever, but the faction Codex books should just be lore books, that gets updated from time to time as lore has grown and expanded enough to warrant it, but that no longer needs to be tied to the editions. I love having a physical codex to browse through, so I dont want them gone altogether, but the current system is super dumb. :D

At this point, yea you are right. I miss the days of accurate rules in the codex. But then, I also miss divergent chapters having full codexes instead of just supplements. Sure, it locked you out of certain units, but that kinda added to the different chapters being different.

5:58 the notion is just...absurd to me. I am relatively new to warhammer, but I have been a big dnd player for decades. It took WotC a long time to figure out a reasonable way to release their content digitally, but they found it, which is wild, because they don't have a physical product to bend people over and shake their pockets out with the way GW does. I mean, GW makes the vast majority of their money from the models, it has to be. I can't imagine a world where that isn't true. But instead of selling digital copies of the books, a product line with wildly good return on investment, they're doing this stupid crap. I'll just never understand it. WotC made the 5e rules free under creative commons and they're still printing money with dndbeyond.

However, Victrix, Perry Miniatures, Warlord Games, all make their plastic miniatures in the UK, all 3 with Renedra as far as I'm aware. And the models are, in my opinion, almost, if not just as good (especially Victrix are amazing) and far, far, far cheaper.

For the sisters detachment, I like the idea ... on paper. In reality, it doesn't work thanks to the miracle dice nerf and the fact that the buff is weak. It's not re-rolls. It's +1 ws/bs (and movement and morale) for a small sub-section of units ... which is something the default detachment gives you for loosing a single sister.

Yea, the det has a sub 30% win rate (small sample size though, not a lot are using it) which drops the overall winrate of the Sisters from 42% to ... 41%. Looks like GW want's Sisters to keep Agents company.

With the arrival of The Old World I have been painting Bretonnia (I rescued them from some friends who had them abandoned on shelves), and it has been a lot of fun. Each knight is like a small design project, I have asked friends to design some, making some of soccer teams (long live Betis!). I've even sculpted new helmet ornaments to fit each one's heraldry. Super fun stuff, highly recommended

The Slaanesh detachment lets you reroll hit and wound rolls if you waive "fights first". The wound rerolls are massive as almost every unit hands out devastating wounds.

18:08 Bridgehead is currently one of the strongest detachments in the game, it's kind of insane. If Scions do wind up losing deep strike as the Codex says it will have its power blunted, but as-is it's an absolutely cracked detachment.

In the Reapers Wager Detachment there is no requirement to take 1000 points of Harlequins. There is no requirement to taking any Harlequins at all. I believe the wording to be: Drukhari army *may take* up to 1000 points of Harlequins, not *must take*. Semantics, I know. If you want the list to work well, its best to come close to a 50/50 split. Exile Waragaming has a great detachment list. Check it out.

Having a 20 man blob that you can move up the board that can tank shock is mega good, the scout is useless but the stelth helps so mutch. On the 3 games we played my friend went from dismissing my poxwalker blob to actually being afraid of being charged and torn appart with mortals.

19:07 The Final day detachment sadly doesn't really work like that, wen can only take vanguard organisms (so no carnifexes) but the GSC units get +1 to hit if a tyranif unit is in 6" around an enemy which is very funny if you play things like the Flyrant, Liktors and gargoyles (or, you know a mawlock or tervigon)

The Necron detachment was an easy money maker. Most Necron players, even though some of the vehicles are great on paper, a lot of us werent heavily invested in many of the units like the Triarch Stalkers and Annihilation barge. Before 10th ed, the same could have been said for things like the Monolith, a unit that see's play a lot more now. Hell even the Covergence of Dominion kinda raised my eyebrow a bit haha. I think this was a much needed detachment for the Necrons as many list dont even include them. That part of their range felt neglected no thanks to GW who clearly saw sales numbers for the model range and acted accordingly to bump those numbers up

GW: Focus more on easily accessible digital rules. Have me pay per year for access. Have different price points. For instance, have a sub that opens just 5 factions for those who just want access to the armies they play and the core rules. Have another that unlocks all factions etc. If GW wants more players they need to make it more accessible and lower entry costs.

No, subscriptions are a modern plague. Maybe add it as an option to WH+, but don't make a sub the standard to get the rules. The game finances itself via the models. Make the rules simple downloads or an app.

I can't decide, should I Build Warhammer or Starwars legion. Yap Segment on where I'm at in my mind, you can Ignore down there I hear starwars legions has much better balancing and more sturdy units, and when playing the games on tabletop sim, I loved playing Starwars legion way more due to the game mechanics, and I have a great idea to make a death Clone trooper legion (throw in a few worms too). But at the same time, I can't find people who plays legion anywhere near me, they all just do warhammer. My issue with Warhammer is, that I am a small brain and I feel like I'd have to keep refreshing myself on the rules, reminding myself distance, remembering how to properly measure for the ruler, things that are basically automated in legions with the cards and special 3 rulers, and also I don't know how many books I can keep buying, and I hear that it's very common for a unit to suddenly become useless since GW loves to just leave characters out of the latest editions, or just decide a group of units should be 2 units smaller, all while ignoring certain factions completely and not giving updates at all. But at least I still do have fun playing that game, and I wouldn't mind building a Leagues of Votann army in the Deep Rock Galactic styled Color schemes since I love dwarves, but I haven't seen much for them despite being a new faction aside from the kill team set. So I feel like I'd need to play either orcs, Space marines, or Bugs, which at least they all look cool too. Like Warhammer has the coolness popular angle, while Legions has the growing community, easy beginner friendly play style. So idk what to go towards as a new player.... (Or do i go the extra chaos to Quar/Infinity) Also I keep hearing that since GW keeps abusing their players Warhammer keeps dying for a bit, but then people remember they already spend 10,000 on warhammer and mope back in kind of like League, so like there is game security there. Legions could just like, lose support next year since DIsney likes to destroy stuff. TLDR: Warhammer has Game security, A massive player base and more styles, despite GW being very abusive to the player base Starwars legion has a growing community, but not a big one yet despite legion actively listening to fans and making great updates that everybody loves, but Disney likes to cancel stuff if it doesn't get like mega successful in a short time.

In the december update, the miracle dice for sisters were completely gutted, which in turn made some of the detachments, including the new one pretty dang bad. Who ever wrote the new detachment was not talking with the other team. Their nerf was ridiculously overhanded as the miracle dice isn't just used to substitute rolls, but to also power stratagems and unit abilities and cutting 2/3 of the MD income completely screws over the the internal balance and dynamics. I thought the Ork nerf was bad, but this is on a completely new level. I'm sure they'll pull back on some of the nerfs, but we'll see.

Ngl, i like the little detail of the praying statue on the hilt of his sword. I dont know why but its a neat detail but the rest of the dude is just...generic. You could have a block of them and they'd just look like a semi-elite squad more than an HQ or champion/hero. Also did i understand this correctly? The thing GW needs to hear and learn: The Codexes are NOT making you money. Many people I know begrudgingly buy them as part of their hobby budget. Money that would have gone toward miniatures is instead going toward the Codex. This is the case with most. Admittedly, it isn't all, but it is how most people shop. You say "I guess I'll pick up this box next paycheck, I'll need to get the codex.." so realistically you're just cutting yourself out of another sale, not really making another.

Games Bookshop somehow found a way to make 40k use the worst of both worlds. Having to buy a super expensive (and almost immediately out of date book) while forcing you to combine it with a digital subscription. Why are people still playing this game even... It's mediocre at best and the rulesset has clumsy written all over it. And you can get way better rules for this setting too.
