I think the real problem is that adding female guardians for no reason true to the lore and just saying "they were always there and you didn't realize" is the real problem, for example you have the Velma series, they added changes to the story for no reason Really, the same thing happens here, people who say that fans who are angry are intolerant have a little reason, since this can be solved with words and not a hello of anger, but in the same way they are introducing in a forced and unjustified way female characters without giving them a valid explanation

Mean wish they’d done it better than a hand wave but GW has done random retcons for a while now, and saying it’s woke is kinda dumb since there’s been gay/trans/different races in the series for a while. Also just saying the only thing that makes the sisters of silence interesting is them having tits and a uterus and not their pariah status that lets them compliment the custodies is also dumb. End of day doesn’t really change anything if a custodies has nuts or tits

yes the game is filled with a ton of LGBTQ invdividuals. It even has races/factions that are not care at all about your gender or sexual orientation. As for the sister of silence I never said they are only interesting because of "Tits and ass" I am not really sure where that came from? All I said was Sisters of Silence still feminine charateristics at least when it comes to their appearance. If we get female Custodes they are just going to mostly like look like their male counterparts. With BackRock involved and the upcoming Amazon show, the timing of this just feels fishy.

Why would that even matter the female astra militarum models look the exact same as the male ones save for a head change yet it doesn’t matter because they still have the same terrible stats. So if it’s just cosmetic right why does it matter they’re still 8ft tall genetically modified Demi gods in power armor. As for the black rock thing I mean sure maybe they had a say but considering how tight gw is with its property I doubt it and also the fact black rock isn’t really known for taking active stances in a company makes me think it’s other stuff, like the fact some black library writers have stated they wanted to write female custodies maybe played a bigger role in that decision.

Disney bought one of the largest franchises in history and had no idea what to do with it and decided ‘let’s rehash 4,5,6 since it’ll rhyme’ which was always gonna make it weird. Then to add to that hired jj told him to direct a new trilogy to set the tone he starts with 7 leaves for 8 gets replaced by a director that doesn’t care about j’s idea then comes back in 9. The sequels were written badly with no sense of direction or originality. But if you’re gonna say modern Star Wars sucks and all of it is bad then let’s not nitpick on what modern Star Wars is, it looks like after andor and mando Disney wants to expand on life in the empire between episode 3 and 4 or just after the Death Star two so now they have a proper direction on where to take the franchise people that care about it and some original for screen ideas. Things Disney didn’t have when the sequels were in concept

While it is certain that they "introduced" the Female Custodes to please investors, to say that 40k is going woke is an exaggeration. Game Workshop has done hundreds of retcons in this universe, and of all of them this is probably the one that has the least influence in the universe (I remember that similar drama arose when they introduced the Primaris Marines, and that one had a lot of influence in the universe). Be careful, I'm not defending GW with what I have to say, because this is something they could have avoided doing, but it seems to me that these days saying that "40k is becoming woke" is just a way of making easy views from parties of content creators, especially those who have never covered 40K in their channel.

I agree with you I’m a Warhammer fan and I don’t play as the Custodes but I don’t like the female custodes cause it hurts the lore if the wanted to have female representation sell more sisters or battle or the sisters of silence yet again Amazon probably wouldn’t want that cause they said that the sisters of battle are to religious which I don’t know why they said that the Custodies and the imperium are really religious and they didn’t want the sisters of silence cause they can’t talk and they think that would be boring probably because they can’t spread their agenda through people who can’t talk

To appeal to the vocal minority in the fanbase who actually care about inclusivity in WARHAMMER of all things? Or they're about to release a new line of female Custodes units, and this reveal is simply to sell some more models. Aside from those two its hard to believe they are doing it for storytelling purposes... Custodes are already pretty one dimensional nigh perfect demi-god bodyguards for tne golden throne. Thats kinda it. I guess maybe they're trying to wedge in some more flavour in the ranks so they can actually have banter and or interesting stories? Theories for days.

The space Marine I could on a wiki, CareBear Marines. As for the logo it is the just the 40k logo with a rainbow overlay and generic bolded font. The background imagine is from Diablo 3 the Whimsyhire lvl lol it felt really fitting. I am glad you enjoyed the thumbnail!

The thing is that some higher up from GW didn't like it, but the writers always did and purposefully tried to leave as much room as possible for female custodes to become canon. So it's more some guy at GW finally having to let go of his borderline sexist believes than some attempt to "woke-ify" warhammer 40k

The "some guy at GW" was someone whose job is protecting and preserving the IP, and his "sexist beliefs" were just protecting and preserving lore that has existed since 1987. And, no, "the writers" did not always want to insert this stuff. ABD et al are playing in someone else's sandbox, which they had no hand in creating, and they are not representative of the creators or prior writers up to this point. ABD and his ilk are corporate employees, not the creators of 40K, and their personal desires or opinions are meaningless. They are not Rick Priestley. If Priestley wanted there to be Femstodes, he could have inserted them in his creation in 1987 or at any point until he left the company in 2009.

It is just nonsense that people keep claiming this is par for the course. It isn't. The entire point of the "unreliable narrators" was to cover up accidents in lore by a relatively small company with a relatively huge universe, not to allow anything whenever. So it is inherently a copout to act as though 40K has no canon lore that is understood by everyone as being real. Mistakes can happen, but fans usually harp on about those mistakes for years afterwards specifically because we collectively know what 40K is and thus what it isn't. And examples like the Necrons further demonstrate the point. They got entire line refreshes, codices, and so on to explain the changes, and said changes were done to develop and progress something that started as an "Unknown" with just a drawing to a fleshed out faction. The "unreliable narrator" works there because humans could encounter Necrons rarely with them being first listed as "Unknown" then as scary machines to more fleshed out identities as information was collected. There is *ZERO* reason that the Emperor, Primarchs, High Lords of Terra, and countless other characters, including the Custodes themselves, would have been unaware of female Custodes. It makes no sense at all for *EVERYONE* to have been an "unreliable narrator" from Rogue Trader to the codices to the Horus Heresy series. There is no explanation, no justification... this neither progresses nor develops any narrative or faction. It simply slaps breasts on some number of Custodes. Anyone who has truly been around for a long time would know how much key lore has been largely remained unchanged since the basics were carved out in 1987-88. A lot of people who weren't even alive then are why Reddit spreads so many lies about "original female Space Marines," "lore has never mattered," "Sisters of Battle didn't exist until the 90's," and other such nonsense.

@@westernwarhorse You make it sound like they had next to no lore but that's not true at all, they had an established lore that was retconned, multiple times in fact! they were originally "chaos androids" (created by "chaos squats" a faction that also no longer exists) that were retconned into the C'tan Necrons who were the slaves of the then unshattered C'tan gods. Suiting their status as a slave army, they would enslave certain humans (namely those of the pariah gene) into "Necron Pariahs." This stands in opposition to the modern Necrons who are very egocentric and wouldn't suffer a human in their ranks, so pariahs were banished from the lore when the faction changed. I was only giving the Necrons as an example, there are many many instances of this happening: Squats existing then not existing then existing again but as an entirely different faction that everybody knew about, tau not having ftl anymore, the eldar population being multiplied by ten, snotlings being remnants of old ones, custodes never leaving terra, everything about the horus heresy, etc etc etc. and like? what do you want a custodes pussy codex? it's not that big of a change comparatively.

I dont mind them retconning female custodes into it the lore, but the way they've gone about it is wrong. They could've retconned it so that after the siege of terra, they used infant females to replenish the ranks of custodes. It makes sense and probably wouldn't have upset people. Instead, they're denying that they're changing it and attacking anyone who voices a concern about it. Thats how you kill a fanbase by alienating them and ignoring the majorities' concern.

I don't think so, although fans who are sceptical of this change are warry of the lore and narrative changes done to Star Wars, the Witcher, LOTR, Marvel/DC, the recent changes in subs/dubs of anime/manga and even D and D. Maybe last years boycott of Budweiser could be a parallel example of the frustration of consumers and the established target market base feeling... "betrayed", maybe? That's just a guess and I'm not going to say I'm wise enough to be certain. I had the same question - curious to see how it all plays out. MajorKill has a pretty good take on this change as well.

Adding "and daughters" would not have been a big deal to most if they had acknowledged the change with a proper explanation in-universe. All they had to do was produce a story to explain why it is being changed now rather than just declaring a retroactive change to the past. Preserve and protect the old lore while advancing with new lore. But what they did was lazy and smells like pandering since they didn't even come out with any models or a novel to sell the change to fans.

did you even watch the video? Or are you just ignoring the fact I talk about the Sister of Silence/The Sisters of Battle or the fact the Imperial Gaurd has female soldiers in it? All of which are strong, powerful and deadly esp when compared to your average male. This is not about female not being represented in the game, its about them changing the lore for DEI reasons. BTW female custodes wont even look female they are just going to look like men due to the DNA alterations they undergo in order to become custodes.
