Jay, keep playing the Guard, keep the dream alive! I also play the Guard and will never stop. It was awesome to see your sniper ace that dude right off, just think you got screwed on the rolls and didn't maximize their capabilities. Ya gotta bring in more men and use the Combined activation. Let your battle buddies engage the same target. Those CSM have a lot less going for them when they've got pairs of Kriegsmen shooting them up, or stabbing the shit out of them. Also, Ash, inadvertently did you dirty there with a couple rules. Like doing stuff after a charge was completed. But, that's just scraping the rust off.

Great advice. Playing Vet Guard I 100% agree. But also against anyone faction with low model count, take the 4 extra Guardmen rather than the missile / artillery attacks, maximise the APL surplus

@@rickstar171 Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. You've gotta over match the opponent with greater activation use. Even double activating still means you're doing more in one turn than they can. Really use it to apply as much pressure as possible. Combining that with the correct orders.

@@gunslinger1911a1 absolutely, a swarm army that can wield Meltas and Plasma guns. Guardsmen Orders are a godsend if your Comms vet is in range. Even in games you don't win they're so fun to play

Malicious Volley only applies to bolt weapons, therefore your Heavy Gunner should not have shot twice.

Siphon Life requires that the friendly model you’re siphoning to be within 6” of the target of the attack. Didn’t look as though your Heavy Gunner was close enough to benefit from any of those heals.

Just to note, Malicious Volleys only benefits Bolt weapons - not the Chain Cannon (nor the Missile Launcher or any of the regular Gunner special weapons).

I was going to post the same thing. I even double checked the Nachmund book in case they changed it. There’s a definite case to be made that the heavy bolter is superior since it’s 10 dice (with malicious volleys) at 3+ with 4/5 damage vs. 6 dice at 3+ with 3/5 damage & ceaseless.

@@CrimsonTemplar2 It all depends on whether you run enough Bolt shooting to make that 1CP spend worth it. If you've just got melee specialists and a Plasma Gunner in your other 5 then the Chain Cannon makes sense as a 6th man because you'll probably never use Volleys.

@@CrimsonTemplar2 I think case could be made for taking the gunner with plasma over the heavy gunner. If you take the heavy though heavy bolter is certainly the best option, especially if you run your leader (chosen gets favoured of the dark gods too!!!) or Icon bearer undivided. Afaik the optimal team is chosen (the self heal is crazy good), balefire, plasma and all the melee guys (Shrivetalon, Butcher and Annointed). I guess swapping either annointed or butcher for heavy gunner might work too (Probably Annointed against Guardsmen as the Butcher can melee them without taking damage in return).

Love your guys battle reports! Just a heads up, I don't think you can fire the Reaper Chaincannon twice with Malicious Volleys. That's only for "bolter" keywords.
