I could see Tzeentch's hand in the whole Cabal prophecy. I mean, no matter how good the Cabal might be or Alpharius/Omegon is at deception and intrigue, they will always be the puppets in his hands.

If you read "Slaves to Darkness", one of the latest HH novels, you find out that, in a way even Tzeentch is a puppet in his own hands. That book has some great revelations on the nature of chaos and the corruption of Horus and/all traitors in general.

I like the theory that the Chaos gods only took Alpharius and Omegon was raised by the Emperor in secret and in the end stayed loyal to him.

I think the Kabal was really trying set Humanity up for failure. They're predictions about the Heresy were wrong anyway. I think they were afraid of how powerful humanity could become with the Emperor at the helm.

In one of the later HH novels, its revealed that the Cabal was far from flawless in both motivation and prediction capacity. Your idea is entirely true.

Don't forget that Chaos apparently set up Horus to fail, too, calling him the Sacrifice King or some such. Chaos wanted neither victory nor defeat but a sickly stalemate.

@@gagaplex I've often wondered how the heresy would have ended if Chaos had their way completely? Would they be people- soul-junkies and just OD kind of or would they drink it all in like a thirsty man in the desert and just run the Galaxy out of souls?

Well we know for sure Alpharius was loyal to humanity. To the Emperor, who knows.

I disagree with you only in the way that I'll farias was extremely loyal to his father the emperor and that he would have laid down his life for him you know I've gotten that out of the books that I've read about the alpha Legion. :-)

Destroying the Raven Guard's hopes and dreams for a new full legion and sending them into emo depression forever. All in a day's work for the Alpha Legion. I felt really sad for the Raven Guard as I read about this in Deliverance Lost, though.

Thanks for another great video- I had never heard of Alpharius planning the Dropsite Massacre before- that was a really interesting tidbit. As a Raven Guard collector/devotee, that’s just one more reason to hate the Alpha Legion. What book did that appear in, if I may ask? I’d really like to read it- thanks again!

I'm not sure that was taken from a HH novel, it might just be extrapolation. But there are some Alpha Legion short stories I never read so...

GrimDark Narrator Thanks for the quick reply- I’ll just keep an eye out for it, in that case. The only specifically Alpha Legion book I’ve read was “Legion”, and I haven’t read any of the HH short story collection books yet, so I might stumble across it. Thanks again for the video- even if I don’t find that fact anywhere, I’ll tuck it away in my brain!

Wait. If Chaos will destroy humanity eventually, anyway, wouldn't that also destroy Chaos? Just much later? I figured Chaos would enslave humanity but keep it around as "soul food" to perpetuate itself indefinitely.

There's a lot of logic traps in that theory. However, there's an interesting revelation in the novel "Slaves to Darkness". To sum it up, Chaos is...chaotic even by its own standards. In never really has/had long term goals as long as it can screw you over in the present.

Just an opinion, but I would like to think it would be safe to say Alpharius/Omegon and the XX legion did side with the Emperor.... It only makes sense pertaining to how things unfolded. If they had solely sided with Horus, he would have been successful and the Cabal's first prophecy would have been fulfilled. Throughout the Heresy, the XXth does visibly side with Horus and partakes in many operations that push the narrative they had indeed sided with chaos, but we all know at this point, this is not how Alpharius or the XXth works. In reality it could be said, they never fully commit to Horus's rule (GrimDark gives good examples here with the White Scars, Raven Guard, and Fabius Bile), but yes, they do commit horrible atrocities throughout the Heresy. It should be known however, that Alpharius and his legion always kept in sight the 'long game' and never had any reservations using others as a means to an end. They kept the necessary appearance of allegiance to the Traitors, and have quite frankly never cared about how they were viewed by any of their brother legions or the Imperium. Ultimately, Horus is defeated and the Emperor is mortally wounded... and stagnation of the Imperium occurs over the next 10k years.... It is exactly the other prophecy the Cabal had indicated would occur should Alpharius and the XXth side with the Emperor. It is just done in the way the Alpha legion does best, with a nice 'I have no idea what these guys are about' kind of way. I also believe Wimpiethe3 explains it best in another comment relating 'Alpharius is loyal to humanity. To the Emperor, who knows.' A small note here would be when Alpharius and Omegon have a small exchange before making their choice on which side to take, when Alpharius seems to make an almost reluctant choice to massacre the Imperial fleet which had accompanied them from Nurth following the meeting and revelation of the Cabal on Hydra 42. This is not the aside we would be given, had the XXth been full-on traitor/chaos bound. They saw the long game. If Alpharius sided with Horus and Chaos solely, it meant the end of the human race. (but the salvation of the other xenos races) If he sided with the Emperor, humanity would continue to survive, but only to slowly decay... I do not believe the Cabal tricked or misled the Alpha Legion, and we have to remember we were never given the actual detail behind the visions witnessed by those that were shown the Cabal's prophecy. We were only told the outcomes.

It does make a strangely obvious and simple kind of sense. Horus was defeated and humanity endured, realizing the prophecy of it happening because the Alpha Legion didn't turn fully traitor. Also, while reviewing the stuff for the videos, I can safely say that the Alpha Legion's commitment to the Heresy was half-assed at best.

now I doubt it I don't even think the alpha Legion feel that they made the right choice considering everything that they tried to do ended up failing and everything that was to come did come true so far as emperor in humanity up our area said when I read the book that he does what he he's doing what he does because he is loyal to the emperor and like you said he feels that it was what the emperor would do so at that I would have to say it's a fail. As always enjoy the lore
