You skipped the part where they fly off the sprue and land on the grey concrete floor of the garage blending in with ash and other detritus. Then you have to crawl around with a flash light to find them.

Oh boy...I had smeared glue onto the one...tiny...tiny...skull to add to my base. And it promptly flew out of my tweezers and onto my floor! Whereupon the cat immediately proceeded to jump into the middle of things as I madly went seeking it with a flashlight. I got the floor swept in time so hopefully he didn't immediately eat the blessed thing! The thrills and chills of having a cat assistant.

this just happened to a whole fucking model of mine. it was built and im waiting for it to stick to base. Instead it falls off my table and disappeared. and now im swearing to never ever ever build a kit again. Fuck i hate building, wish it all came finished

a trick I figured out was to use the tamyia cement to melt some mold lines instead of scraping them.

Great tip on the rotating the sprue! I do that all the time and it does save time over a lot of models. But I do miss the old models where the arms and legs where all interchangeable.

Best advice is to be careful using the xacto knife. It is very easy to cut yourself trimming the tiny parts. So please becareful, and your thumb will thank you. TIP: you could put a bandaid on your thumb so if you do slip you wont really need to use the bandaid for its intended purpose.

Wait ypu mean we shouldn't juggle our knives while waiting for paint/glue to dry ? 🤔 next thing your gonna tell me is we shouldn't be licking the paint off our bristles while layering and glazing.

Nice video! I like do all my cutting in one shot and put each model or sub-assembly in a parts organizer. I prefer the ones with rounded bottoms because it makes it easier to take small parts back out.

Assembling models is so complicated these days, back in the 90's you could just pop them off the sprues and glue them together with common sense, nowadays all the instructions are mind-numbing. That's probably why I prefer old-hammer stuff, I get to spend less time faffing and more time painting.

I like to cut the sprue into quarters, then you can handle it to clip out parts much quicker.

3 minutes out of 18 minutes is approx 16.67% faster. ie: you saved roughly one sixth of the time. Thats ..... thats ,..... errrr .... definately something. :-)

It depends on the army you are building and how the multipart kits are designed. Some are a true annoyance and if you can't stand a single mold line like me, some of the armies are just nightmarish to clean

I pop out 5-10 models and put each in a pile of their own. Then go ham and build each in like 2 minutes. Slow down when I have to consider what part I'd like

The models are starting to be a little too over engineered. Great looking models, but sometimes they are not worth the squeeze. As an IG player, those new ones are going to be a Necromunda 8th Platoon. I've got enough of those older ones to last a lifetime or three.

Great tips, get some good nippers, 1 xacto knife, a good plastic cement (I traditionally use Tamyia) but recently got some Mr. Hobby "Mr. Cement Deluxe" has been a GAME changer. Yes, have a game plan for what bits you want for what you are building. I do clip close to the bit. When doing troops I have done Cadia Shock troops or Sentinels, 2 at a time. and build them next to each other for time savings.

My roommates used my exacto blade to cut drywall, so all I had were a dull blade & nail clippers to cut my first Eldar Army, took a week to make ten foot soldiers (after work)

This hobby have so many aspects. I have a lot of friends, who hates to paint. A lot of friends, who hates to assemble. Some people just buy painted armies to play tabletop. And here Iam, who loves all of that!

It just took me 3-4 hours yesterday to build 2 kavalos riders from OBR... biggest time sink is cleaning the models from plastic... some parts you cant clip them neatly from the sprue and need to heavily clean it afterwards... makes it a surgeon job with the hobby knife... while 1 is resting cause of glue, i prepared the next one and cleaned it but it still took me 3-4 hours... all in all i think it took me already 24-36 hours to build my OBR spearhead box and i still have the big harvester to build... im happy when its done and i finally can start painting... next i wanted the tyrannide combat patrol but as it is kind of a horde army it will take me an eternity to build all of these models 😂

Same, but with Skeleton Warriors from the Tomb Kings set. They're not monopose and, because they're old sculpts, every single bit is absolutely drowning in mould lines.

I wish it took me 8 minutes to build a model! I have bad OCD so I end up working on a single model like I'm preparing it for a golden demon. I always worry that my sprue marks have ruined the model or that I've removed too much or too little of the mold line. It ends with me getting frustrated before I can even finish a unit.

I would add a scalpel saw to your tool recommendations. With a scalpel saw you can safely cut out small, delicate parts that clippers might damage...like that stupid dangling incencse thingy my tech priest is now missing.

Pro WAHAMMER building tip: pay someone else to do it. Im not even kidding. Why waste huge amounts of time which could be spent on improving your painting and developing new techniques? Feeling you get when assembling models is very subjective, some people value it and enjoy it since they are starting to see the shape of models in the making. Many of those people enjoy the grey models as they are, unpainted, probably for the reason of not really into painting, as a painting process is a struggle with failures being part of the process, unlike building models, which is pretty basic and simple - following the steps, zero creativity (kitbashing and converting is an exception). The future of miniature painters with 3d printed models is bright - no moldlines, no assembling = more time = more painted models.
